Hi everyone!
It's going to take me a bit to catch up as I still don't have power at home (only at work ssh! ;) ) . I'm hoping everyone made it through Sandy safe and sound!
Sandy ruined my running schedule last week. Lots of trees and wires still down and no power to shower at home.
I have a 10k on Sunday and I have a funny feeling that the time might not be so hot. Still going to do the best I can ;)

Anyone have races this weekend?

Well, my glass-slipper running shoes haven't hit the pavement in over a week. I got really sick last week on monday morning and I'm just now starting to feel normal and have about 75% of my appetite back...normally I'm a bottomless pit! I'm scheduled to run tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes. :rolleyes2 Oh well...on the brighter side, the BF and I couldn't resist booking a very last minute Thanksgiving trip to the World! I'm so excited! We went last year for T-giving for the first time and I just LOVED it with all the Christmas decor and the Osborne lights...we got a great room rate and airfare that I can live with so we're just gonna do it again. Hoping to book the room here in the next hour or so...just have to pick what resort. We're taking into consideration that we'll both have to run while we're there...most importatnly the BF will have a 16 miler scheduled so we're trying to figure out which resort (of the ones that are left to choose from at this point) will be his best option for that...trying to avoid him having to run a tiny loop 20+ times...:faint: I'm going to get my long run in before we leave, but will still need to get in a 5 miler while we're there I think. I was supposed to last year too...and well, that didn't happen...so we'll see what happens this time! ;)

Yesterday my fellow princess-in-training Alana and I ran our last 10K before the Princess. Similar to the above post where 1:10 was the last finishing time of a 10K race (!!!), our race yesterday was a bunch of very serious runners in my community and the last finisher was 1:20. But the good news is that I PR'ed the race by over a minute with 56:04 which I am so excited to send to Disney! Was not expecting a PR at all since I ran 13.1 miles last weekend and did basically everything you are not supposed to do leading up to a race LOL, but I got out there and felt awesome regardless. My friend and I were so emotional doing our last race together before Disney - we have been training for 9 months and had a race every month (at least). It was so powerful to think back during the race about the many races, and miles of training, leading up to this one. I love the journey more than anything!!!

Glad you're safe!!! Hoppefully your power will be restored ASAP! pixiedust:

I'm running the Color Run (5k) this weekend with a group of friends...I actaully keep forgetting about it, so thanks for the reminder. :) I need to run to the store for a white shirt!

Wow, that's a great time, congrats! Those smaller "serious" runs always freak me out...I always start them off by telling my BF "well, this is probably going to be the most embarassing day of my life." That drives him nuts when I say that. :lmao: Deep down I know it doesn't matter, that the only thing that matters is getting out there, and that I'm only racing against myself, but I can't help freaking out before them anyway!

Oh no I would stay off it at least a couple of days try to not walk on it also. stay active in other ways. Lift weights with your arms, if your gym has a arm bike use it to get your heart rate up.

Even if you miss a week or 2 you will be ok, jutting don't push it but sometimes its hard to get back into the swing of things. I have had multiple injuries this year each one was hard to run after cause I was used to being lazy.

On the bright side you have been training at least... I can't still waiting for my Dr to release me to run again which won't be till at least the 19th of Nov. I haven't run since July before my surgery but I do walk 7 miles a day and have lost 30 pounds, hoping that helps. I will only have 8 weeks for the Tinkerbell and 12 weeks till he Princess.

If I can do it you can do it!!

Best of luck and wishes to heal fast.

A week or two?!?!?!
why.gif
I've got a 5K in 11 days and a 10K in 17 days. I'm not so worried about the 5K, just doing it because it sounds fun - night race through Dollywood with all the Christmas lights on, but I am hoping to use the 10K for a decent time for corral placement for the princess.

I know this sounds awful but if you want to be in any shape for the Princess, you need to take care of yourself now. I missed the 15K yesterday that was supposed to be my key to better corral placement for the PHM. I just couldn't risk it with the IT pain I've been having. I'm on the mend but not there yet and I would rather be able to run the PHM in a worse corral than not be physically able to do it at all. You know? I know it's frustrating but you have to take care of your body if you want it to keep letting you do these things. It took a lot of mentally beating-myself-up for me to give up the 15K yesterday but it was the right call as much as I wish it wasn't.

We will all get through the temporary pain and be awesome by February!!! Believe it!!! :cheer2:

Logically I know that. I'm just really irritated that this stupid "service learning project" in one of my classes might knock me out of TWO races. :sad2: I'm hoping I can make it back out by this weekend though. I never had any swelling, on a scale of 1-10 pain was never above maybe a 2, and bruising is so faint that I can only see it in bright light. It's one of those injuries that I wouldn't have even considered an injury before I started running.

We might not have registered if we knew what it was going to be like! For a low key race (no medals or anything, geesh! LOL), it was very serious. However my friend and princess-in-training was the last runner at 1:20 - she had the police car behind her and was having horrible visions of the balloon ladies! (Actually there was one other runner behind her but that poor woman was not even on the race marshalls' radar.) My friend had asked me to run back and run her in after I finished so I did and we came in the with police car, LOL. I told her this what it must feel like to be a VIP runner! And she had an awesome attitude about it too. She was proud of her 1:20 as it was a PR for her of 1 minute. This is all to say, we are racing ourselves not each other. Being together is what makes us run our best!

Oh! Ok! Well then I will DEFINITELY check them out with a little more hope :) Thanks so much for letting me know, haha. I was sad because I fell in love with one already and I just pouted at the computer screen.

Yeah! The hook-and-eyes ALWAYS make me so angry! It takes like 20 minutes to get them all together and by the end of it I'll have skipped one and have to redo it. I feel like I'm putting on a corset every time. And I also have the same issue with the ribcage, bra fitters ALWAYS tell me to go up a bandsize. Once I had a woman tell me I was a 40 around, and I just looked at her really confused. So I put it on to prove a point and I was swimming in it. Ever since I've just done everything on my own, haha.

You've totally got this! You have so much time to improve too between now and the Princess 1/2, so don't be disappointed. You'll get that medal around your neck and feel amazing for accomplishing it :cheer2:

I ordered some Asics today and I'm super excited to get them and try them out. Do any of you use Asics when you run? I've been using Nike, but I'm really attracted to the look of Asics and heard awesome things. I got the Gel Extreme 33 in the pink/purple/yellow. SO EXCITED :hyper:

I have the Asics 2170 and LOVE them ! Lots of arch support and super cushioning !:worship:

LOVE the post ! Couldn't agree more on the "would rather have the worse corral and finish than not be able to do it at all ". I figure i am going to be anywhere from E to H corral and you know what ? ... I'm so okay with that !

I love what you are saying here. I won't have a chance to submit a time to Disney and my husband and I will surely be in the last corral but hey someone has to be back there right...at least we are there and we can run at our own pace. Being there and finishing it is the most important part of it!!!

Stupid question that I cant find an answer anywhere to but when is the latest you can submit your time for better placement?
How long does the race have to be?

It only says on the website that you bring it to the expo but I thought it had to be done ahead of time.

Thanksgiving at WDW...how wonderful !!!!

I love this post as well and it's what I needed today! I'm beating these shin splints and starting to feel really good again. But after taking time off, it's tough to start up again without overdoing it and wanting to be right back where I was. So I've been doing short slow distances just to get back into it but I really want to be faster and further. :worried: But I just have to remember that if I do too much too soon I'll be right back where I was and it'll ruin my chances at finishing and doing well. So I'll just keep plugging away! I was supposed to do a 10K this weekend but dropped down to the 5K and I think that was a good choice at this time. I love the support and awesome advice from all of you!

I believe the deadline to submit via email is Dec.1, race must be 10k or longer, chip timed with officially recorded results. If you can't get a time before that date, you can bring proof of time to the expo and they will verify and change your corral on your bib, if your time warrants it, by placing a sticker on your bib over the corral that's printed on it already.
