I finally heard back from TrackShack about my proof of time for both Tink and the Princess. Good thing too because someone gave me a phone number and I was about to go ballistic. :lmao:

I got the reply from them today as well! They must have been playing catch up today.

I will do that when I get back. I had a diet Coke and I feel much better. I'm just not going to go cold turkey right now. lol, way to much going on with school and our cruise.

Hi! I have a local half in January so I am in a similar situation with doing two halfs. I am also going to aim for the DL half if I can swing it. I think we are going to be glad we signed up for the race retreat! It is almost sold out if anyone is on the fence.

Oh, no! I have no idea what that could be. I have had shin splints that I have had no choice but to run through and cant remember anything like that. :confused3

My DH had surgery about 7 weeks ago and is just getting back in to exercising. He did C25K with me in the spring and he decided to start over. I went out with him today since he is on week one, I figured it would be a nice easy 30 minute workout. Back when we started it, it was so hard and today was such a breeze for me! It was so nice to really see how far I have come. DH is in the military and did not need to do it with me, he was just supporting me and I'm so glad he agreed to help me. I don't know that I would have done it without him.

Isn't it great our military hubbies are supporting us (mines retired but once a military wife always a military wife !).DH is doing the race with me for all the support I have given him in his career !

Can't wait to hear about your cruise ! If I remember you are in San Antonio also. If so are you doing the leukemia half marathon at the end of Jan ? Thinking I might as a practice for the PHM.

This is a long shot I know but anybody have any experience with Delta Skymiles? I'm trying to keep my flight at 25,000 miles. I'm usually pretty good at these things but I'm having a hard time with this one. Maybe I'm just being impatient and want to get it booked already. Anybody have any tips or suggestions on maybe the best day to look for flights or how many weeks out is best to get low miles? So far the best I can find is 32,500 which I'll do if I have to but would rather not. Especially if I'm going to do Disneyland in September. I can't even believe I'm actually considering Disneyland. I'm still a little in shock that I'm doing Princess. But I CAN'T WAIT!!!!

How awesome he is going with you! I wish Chris could go with me but he is trying to save leave. We have taken a lot of leave this year and he may do a guys weekend thing in the spring. But on the other hand I am excited to do this solo. If he was with me I would not be meeting new people and would be worried about him. This way I get to be totally selfish! lol
and yes, we are in San Antonio
This is the half I am doing in January.

Can you send me the info about the one for leukemia? A friend of mine's little girl ask ALL and I have been looking for something. No way I could do ANOTHER half but I would like to check it out.
I was actually really happy when I found out the PHM benefits the leukemia and lymphoma society. I figured Mickey just keep all our money for himself! lol

ETA: I found the race. I wish I would have know about that before I signed up for the other. The website says to check back for volunteer info at a later date so I am putting it on my calender so I can do something. I am also going to look in to the fund raising. Thanks for bringing that up.

I don't know about Delta but you should ask on the budget board. Someone over there will most likely know. I am using Southwest points and I learned about that program on the budget board. (I even got a refund on some points when the price went down thanks to reading about it there)

I am also thinking about the DL half. I may or may not have airline miles, depends on if my DH goes out of town with friends and I am nice enough to let him use my miles! :goodvibes

Last week I used points for the Tink weekend in January-Cincinnati to LA and back for 25,000 points. When I checked fares to Orange County instead it was at the 32,500 level. I have heard that fares are lowest on Tuesdays.

Cool! I will check on Tuesday. I actually completely forgot to look yesterday. Figures! Lol

Has anyone ever heard of a lump on the shin? :confused3
More or less - mine was just to the inside of my shin, right up against the bone, maybe 4-5" up from my ankle. Scared me - figured it HAD to be stress fracture! But when I rubbed it it began to ease up (hurt like mad, though): it was a knot in a muscle, for sure.

It is a big old muscle knot! I was freaked out so I went to my doctor last night after work. he is a runner so he knew exactly what it was. So I've been trying to work it out and it seriously does hurt like mad! On the bright side, my shins feel great other than that knot! I'm going to try to do some running tonight and I'm very excited to get out there!

ETA - By the way, I love your blog!!

I used my delta miles to book my flight, but I doubt you can go under the mileage you are showing available. My experience has been that the closer to your date the less options are available at lower mileage rates.

Just booked my flight! Delta is having a sale, so anyone who still needs to book might want to check it out! I booked Thurs / Mon from Atlanta for 157 round trip - that's roughly what I spent in gas last year!!!!!! SO happy this is taken care of!

Wow! Maybe I should just pay with cash instead of miles! Looking into that now.

I have a question I haven't seen answered before for those that have run before. I've read that many bring sweats and jackets to be discarded by the road after you've started warming up running, but does anyone have problems getting chilled after the race before they can get back to their hotel room for a shower? I'm trying to decide if I want to bother checking a jacket for post race. While doing my training, i usually go from hot and sweaty to cold and sweaty in just a few minutes. I'm not indulging in the retreat so I expect the lines to be long to pick up a bag. Thanks for yow haring your experience with us newbies. :)

I had this problem last year. By the time we finished, it was misting and cold. Definitely shivering, but the line to the bus wasn't bad - okay, well, the line was horrific but they had 2 buses running back to our hotel, so it went pretty quick. I still don't know if I would deal with bag check, though.

I like the Gu Chomps. I have trouble with the texture of the gels but the Chomps actually taste really good and I find the texture okay to get down. They are firmer then a gummy bear or anything like that. .

I like the Gu Chomps a LOT better than Clif shot bloks. After I used the Clif bloks, I felt like I was picking that crap out of my teeth for miles. The Gu Chomps were firmer, like you said, and didn't seem to "linger" in my dental work!

Does someplace like GNC sell individual gels? I want to get a handful of different ones to try to see what's the easiest to get down. I struggle with strong texture aversions on a good day, much less after 10 miles of running. ;)

I buy mine at Sports Authority; they are usually right under the cash registers at the counter.

I don't have IT band issues but I do have shin splints and they are driving me crazy. I'm dying to get out there to train and I just haven't been able to do it. I've googled the topic to death for exercises, stretches, tips, etc but it's so frustrating because I know the rest of my body is up for three miles today but my shin is not. So I do know how you feel - when you want to train but just can't do it. :( So good luck with your chiropractor and massage - sending some virtual healing vibes your way!

I got sidelined with those after a year. Definitely ice, and I still wear the compression sleeves post run sometimes, but a total game changer for me was the book "Chi Running" by Danny Dreyer. I know I don't follow his advice to the letter, but I changed my form just enough so that I have never had shin pain since. A few twinges here and there, but no pain. My calves used to get crazy tight, and pull on the shins. I haven't had problems with it in ages. Check it out - I got it from the library. A caveat - changing your natural form will slow you down a bit while you are getting used to it. But that's a lot better than not being able to run at all and / or being in severe pain! And for what it's worth, I have always run in Brooks and enjoy them.

I decided to cut down/eliminate caffeine. I drink way to much diet soda and not enough water. Well that is going to have to wait until I get back from my cruise. Yesterday I was just cranky and at one point feeling like I was going to cry. I took a nap, woke up with a headache, drank a soda and felt a little better for the rest of the night. Today I woke up feeling hung over and I haven't been drinking. Sigh...I'm still gonna try not to have to much but I have too much to do the next three days to feel like this.

I just did this! It's been over a week since I've had a soda. Yes, I"ve had a few McD's sweet teas here and there, but I wasn't trying to quit caffeine so much as quit soda. It's funny - I have always been a huge Diet Coke addict, but I had the chance to snag one the other day and I truly, really, didn't want it. Unbelieveable! I feel like I'm at a tent revival and I should say I've been delivered!:dance3: Seriously, I'm so happy I'm not such a slave to it anymore! Good luck with cutting it out!

I'll fully admit that I'm PMSing but I just watched your video and I'm sitting here bawling my eyes out. Thank you for sharing that with us.

Tinkeramy, totally enjoyed the video and your blog. I've read so many blog recaps of Princess and for some reason I've not seen this one before. Ditto for you tube videos. I think your blog pics are some of the most comprehensive I've seen. So exciting!

I have officially signed up! For the race retreat too:) My bank account didn't like it much but I think it'll be worth it -- especially since this one will be solo.

I'm kind of scared since my first half will be the Tink in January, but I'm not looking to set any records so I'm sure I'll do fine. Hard to believe that less than a year after I started running, I'll have completed 2 half marathons!!!

Welcome!!! I am doing the Tink and Princess also and Tink will be my first half as well! :yay:

I really enjoyed watching your video and reading your blog post! Thanks for sharing these! February, get here quick!!! I'm so excited!

PS It was fun to see that you ate at Le Cellier after the race - My mom and I have ADRs for Le Cellier Sunday evening after the race!

I was just on the Run Disney site and see that the race retreat is sold out. Makes me glad I didn't wait until the Wine and Dine Expo next week to sign up for this race. :thumbsup2.

Le Cellier was our first choice for dinner on race day, but when the ADR window opened up it wasn't available. So, I had booked Ohana. Seeing the comment above about Le Cellier reminded me to check again--- they had availability for the time we wanted!! :yay:
