Well I wasn't planning on running this year, but my friend asked and I just happen to have leave...so I'm in for #3!!

I had surgery on my foot this summer and have been slacking on getting back into running and this is just the motivation I needed.

YAY!!! Welcome back to the PHM ladies! :cool1:

I feel like I've reached some kind of milestone or something. After the past few months of wondering if I'm crazy and doubting that I could finish, I did a 5 mile run on Fri. My previous longest run was 3 miles. I had a 4 mile run planned, but I felt great and decided to go on around the loop one more time. I'm still on the slower side, but I was still below the pacing requirement with a 15:11 pace. I wasn't sore the next day, and it wasn't the mental struggle it usually is. I was surprised at how much easier it's gotten. Like someone flipped a switch or something. Just 2.5 months ago, I could barely do 1.5 miles without gasping for breath and hating every second of it at an 18 min mile pace.

Way to go ! Keep up the good work:cool1: remember...finishing is better than did not start !

You guys are super sweet! Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

A few weeks ago I felt really burnt out toward the end of my HM training for my 9/30 race. I've spent the last few weeks running long runs of 4-6 miles instead of 8-10, and I've been really focusing on quality, keeping my easy runs easy, meaning in the aerobic heart zone (more difficult than you'd think), and running hard speedwork and progression runs. I'm SOOOO motivated with this new change. It was a really hard transition--I was running my "easy" days too hard, and it's still not fun to see relatively slow paces on my phone, but my legs just want to go go go now. The speedwork kicks my butt, but I know it's just one day a week.

My goals for this race are to have fun, do better than last year (but not better than my more recent HM), and to get a picture with Stitch! He was gone by the time I got to him (maybe mile 9?), so that's going to be my redemption! I'm also signed up for a half in June, and I plan to train to improve for that race. Hopefully the PHM will give me more race experience, but even if it doesn't, I'm psyched to be doing it.

I hope everyone else battened down on the east coast (all our schools are closed, even my work!) is staying safe!

Are you still having shin splints? My local running store recommended wearing shin sleeves during the run and after, plus I bought a reusable shin ice packs. They've helped a ton!!!

Thank you! I am still dealing with shin splints. I could only do two miles on Thursday because it was painful. I just walked two miles on Saturday and it was painful too so now I think I will do total rest for a while now. I was scheduled to do a 10K in two weeks but I decided to take myself out of that. I just got the compression sleeves but I didn't really get a chance to use them but someone on the FB page mentioned that you could even sleep in them! I didn't do that yet but I decided to wear them to work today. I also have a sports massage scheduled for today. I've got 5 weeks to get rid of this before I start the 12 week 1/2 marathon training plain!

mamacate I just got done looking at your photos and I can't tell you how excited I am for the PHM now!!! Even more than before. You look like you're having so much fun and I had no idea that they had that many photo ops! I've been discouraged because I've had to back off with these shin splints and I'm worried that I won't be where I need to be by the time it rolls around. But this has given me some new hope - to just wait it out, get this healed and start up again! If I have to walk some of it, I'll walk some of it and just have fun and enjoy that whole atmosphere without worrying about my time (as long as I'm ahead of the sweepers!!). :goodvibes

Stay safe, all you Northeastern princesses!

Thanks! I'm in NYC (not evacuated though, phew!) and I think there will be no out door running until Wednesday at the earliest in these parts! I'm patting myself on the back for getting my 5-miler in on Saturday instead of Sunday like I'd originally planned.

Hoping the electricity holds so I can Wii Fit it up while we're trapped inside. :hyper:

Stay safe and dry, princesses!

Thank you! We are on the north shore of nassau county. So far just bad winds and rain, but the south shore is already flooded badly :-(

This has probably been asked already, but what are the options they give out at the aid stations? My long runs are starting to get longer (6 miles planned for this week), so I'm thinking I need to start training with energy sources. I don't want to find out race day that whatever they offer upsets my stomach.

Although I haven't done Princess yet, I'm thinking you probably need to plan to bring what you like with you on course. Looking at last year's map, the food stop isn't until between miles 8 and 9. Most runners will need some calories before then. Try different things until you find what you like. At water stops they will have both water and powerade. The food stop will likely have some sort of clif product, though I don't know what. Again, with it being so late in the race most people will need something before then.

the aid stations are first aid statins. There is one gu/gel stop around 8. The "W" are water and sports drink. When approaching a hydration location, you will find sports drink first and then water second.

Last year I'm pretty sure it was clif shots (gel). I think in prior years it has been Gu, so I guess it depends on which company ponies up for the expo. :)

Let me echo the stay safe northeastern princesses ! Lots of prayers for all as you stay strong! We are here to help if needed.

It will be a few days until I can get out there and walk again. My father passed away this morning, this hurricane is making it hard to plan his service. I really need to walk just to clear my head.
