I did see a tiny stick of "Body Glide for Women" I asked what the difference was and the sales person had no answer. I guess the real answer was "less product for higher price" I went ahead and bought the bigger one :confused3

That's funny, I asked my local running store the same thing: what's the difference between the Body Glide for Her and the regular stuff? He very honestly told me that there's absolutely no difference, and pointed out that even though the tubes themselves are the exact same size, the women's project actually contained more body glide (22.68g vs the 12.8g of the regular 'small' size). So even though the Body Glide for Her cost about $1 more, it worked out to a better deal on a cost-per-gram basis.

Weird.

Seriously thinking about doing the Princess Half marathon and looking at the new room only rate and package deals. Does anybody know what the price of the PHM tickets are? Tickets are part of any decision to make the trip or not. If you don't want to advertise the prices, you can message me on this.

Quick question. Has the age requirement always been 14? I thought I had looked last year and could have sworn it was 13 but just checked for 2013 and it was 14. I just finished the ToT 10 miler and DS wants to run the princess with me. He's a cross country runner but he'll miss the cut off by a couple weeks.

Another tip on chapstick (or glide works for this too) - if you have problems with sweat dripping into your eyes, slick down your eyebrows with chapstick and they'll work to divert the droplets around your eyes. :thumbsup2

holy cow...this is brilliant! I'm so trying this trick...I can't believe I haven't thought of that...I use body glide just about everywhere on a long run and this makes so much sense! Thanks!

Nice idea! I purchased a Halo headband at the Disneyland 1/2 Expo and it did a great job of keeping the sweat out of my eyes (designed for this)... but I don't want to wear it for every run.

Had my 1st 5K this morning at sea world San Antonio...really humid....like 80% and temp about 73 at the start. Shotgun start but crowd thinned out pretty quickly so no weaving. Most of the course through parking lots, in the back part of the park complete with lots of inclines and then close to the last mile in the park. Very little music or characters along the course. People in the race really nice cheering each other along. kept getting sweat in my eyes and on sunglasses so could have used the Chapstick idea today ! :)

My time was 41 min about 13:30 per mile and had to pretty much walk the last mile so a little disappointed since my training times were closer to 13. I know plenty of time until PHM....so I will plug on !:cheer2:

yeah, I'm a bondiband girl now so i don't need the eyebrow chapstick add much as I used to...but on really steamy days I still appreciate it, especially with a lighter weight print band vs. their heavier ones.

Great job--- Keep going- I am! Last month, I did my 5k in 41:02. I'm right there with you :) We'll keep plugging on together :)

Feeling discouraged today. About 3 weeks ago I ran 9.3 and spent the last 2 miles stretch/walk/run/gimping on a tweaked out knee. I did that to my other knee a few months ago and after taking it easy for a week or so, I was able to slowly get right back into things. So I let it go for about a week and tried to run on it. I got in a mile and it was painful. I let it go for another week and tried again and then today I was planning to do either 10K or 15K depending on how the mood strikes. I got 2 miles in and my knee was bothering me already. I only made it 5K and came home for some ice. Given that I spent the last mile gimping, my time wasn't bad (about 30 min) but I am getting nervous that this knee isn't going to just snap back.

I have Tough Mudder in 2 weeks and Hot Chocolate about 2 weeks later.:scared:

Does anyone see a sports medicine specialist or anyone like that? How do I go about finding someone? Are there Dr's who specialize in runner's needs and how do you find a good one?

Hey fellow Chicago gal,
Once upon a time when I ran my 2nd marathon, I was lucky enough to have Dr Greg Ewert as my primary physician. He was the medical director of the Chicago marathon for years and may still be. I moved out to the burbs and have a different dr now, but I see he's still listed at his practice with Michigan Avenue internists. Even if you can't get in to see him (he eventually became the team physician for the Blackhawks and Cubs), but maybe he or his office could recommend someone close to wherever you are? He was looking after silly little ol' me before he went bigtime :)

I would also ask your insurance provider if they can look up someone in your network with a specialty in "sports medicine"

hope this helps you. good luck on the hot chocolate!

FYI, I think I've decided not to do the Hot Chocolate 15K anymore as I just found the perfect "10" 10K (a 10 mile or a 10 K on Nov 10) on the lakeshore. I thought my time might be better if it's a shorter race...plus, I'm lazy and we have lots of time :)

Ask around at running stores and booths at race expos. I know they make small ones. Our running group managed to get some that are about the size of half a pack of gum, perfect for throwing in a pocket or belt on a long run.

Thans John! I'll check it out.

Chapstick will do the trick too, and super easy to keep in a pocket or pouch.

Never thought of using Chapstick. I usually run with mine. My lips get so dry breathing through my mouth. Don't know if I would want to put it on my lips after using it else where.

Disney Visa discount?!? I didn't get an email about that! How much is the discount?

They have both a room only and package discount. Saved us a couple hundred on room only!

I had the knee issue last year. I did not go the the doc. I went for acupuncture a few times and that helped. My pain was right behind my knee cap. I found a sports med doc by me just looking on line. I am to in the burbs.

I will be doing the Hot Chocolate as well, but this year I am only doing the 5K. You get the same goods for doing the 5 vs the 15. So this is now a fun run vs a training run.

I have had my eye on that Navy Pier 10 miler. But this year I did the Finish on the 50 and I am 2 weeks away from the Monster Dash Half. (Wish me Luck!) :crazy2:

How fun to find the Chicago Disney runners! Maybe we should get together and do the 5K Color Run next week together for fun. If we had a 4th Chicago princess we could be a team and save $5. I've never done it, but this is not a run for time...in fact I'd probably bring my kids who can't run a full 5K. Check out the video...it's beautiful.

Which burb is the acupuncture or sports med doc in? I'm in Tinley Park and would love a good referral! My insurance is BCBS so I can go to just about anyone. I'll call Dr Ewert too and see if they can give me a referral (or if they aren't too far out of the loop, I can arrange appointments during the work day when I am downtown. Thanks!

Thanks to both my fellow Chicago girls! We should get together for a run at some point! That Monster Dash looks fun but I think it's the same day we're in Louisville for Tough Mudder. Otherwise I was seriously considering it. I do love running on the lakeshore so anything there is awesome. Maybe we should see if we can find a run in January when it's going to be harder to motivate ourselves to get out and train? I always train harder when I have something to work toward.

I didn't realize they were doing that again this year! My nanny did it a few months ago and I remember making a mental note to watch for it next year. I bet my kids would love that too! DS7 can run 5K, DS5 can run 1-2 miles without whining and can walk the rest. DS3 would walk it and be distracted enough by the colors to not whine too much by the end. LOL! DH would probably be the one whining because he'd have to be slower than he wants to. but it looks awesome!! Not sure about adding a race in between now and TM with my gimp knee but I am thinking about it. Let me know if you are for sure doing it!

I hate to even ask but... is the pain on the outside of the knee? If so, it sounds an awful lot like IT Band Syndrome - and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. :(

I'm hoping you'll say "inside" and this will be moot, but if not, Google IT Band Syndrome and start reading up. I've been dealing with it for months trying to make it through the TOT 10-Miler and just made it worse by racing. I'm back to square-1 now. Don't be me!

It is on the outside. :sad1: And it's probably one of the more painful things I've felt. When it happened on the right side, it was bad but it went away after a short while. This left one is stubborn though! When it first happened, by the time I got home, I was in tears. I managed the 3 yesterday without tears, but it was painful enough that I don't know if I could have gone any farther.

I'll Google, thanks! (I think:sad1: ) Sorry you are going through it and hope we are both good as new by February!!
