Hi Elaine

Izzy was/is a very hungry baby!! She is now 5 months old and weighs 17 lbs and is 26 inches long -- the bottle just was not satisfying her -- I started her on cereal (oatmeal) with the doctor's okay -- at about 3 months (maybe 3 1/2 months) -- that was a little earlier than recommended but the doctor thought it would be fine -- she loves loves loves the cereal and is very good at using a spoon now. After her 4 month checkup and shots (which she had at about 19 weeks instead of 16 weeks) I talked to her doctor about adding in the fruits and vegetables and he said that would be fine to do since she knows how to use the spoon now.

So about 2 weeks ago I started her on fruits and vegetables and those are a big hit as well. We use the stage 1 Gerbers. Frankly, it is ALOT of food that the doctors advise giving -- more so then you would think -- but apparently the food (cereal/fruit/veg) is not enough to really sustain them nutritionally - they just eat the food for a little something extra and to learn how to use the spoon and eat -- so even though Izzy now eats food - she still gets 4 8 ounce bottles a day.

Her feeding schedule at 5 months is:

Breakfast -- oatmeal cereal, 1/2 a pack of Gerber fruit, and her 8 oz bottle

around noon --- 8 oz bottle

around 3 or 4pm --- 8 oz bottle - 1/2 pack of Gerber vegetables and sometimes a little oatmeal

Dinner (around 8pm) --- 8 oz bottle - 1/2 pack of Gerber vegetable and oatmeal.

She is doing very well on this schedule -- she loves to eat -- and she is sleeping through the night!!!

So -- sorry for the long post -- but I would talk to your doctor -- it is probably time to start Dom on cereal -- we went with Oatmeal per doctors instruction because her bowel movements were a little hard and the oatmeal has fiber to soften them up while the rice cereal would keep them hard/make them harder -- but apparently any single grain cereal works!

Good luck -- ask the doctor -- and use the spoon -- don't put the cereal in the bottle because its important for them to learn to use the spoon.

********

Hi to everyone else -- LOVE all the adorable baby pictures. Ash - you are quite talented!!

-Nicole

I know this is from quite a few months ago, but, even though my daughter is now expecting her first, and this was years ago, my doctor started my daughter on cereal and yellow fruit and veggies at about 3 weeks old, and I made my own formula, pet milk, corn syrup and water, what my mother raised us on, and she did great. My ped. said she was hungry, feed her and when I asked about the formula, he said, you're fine, exact same ingredients as formula and cheaper, go for it. I loved my doctor:worship:

Hey everyone!

Becky, sorry about the car. At least it wasn't too expensive.

DVSsince02, I agree I wouldn't worry too much about the ultrasound. Spencer was measuring about 9lbs and he weighed 7lbs 15 oz when born.

Kelly, Brady does look so small in those pictures.

I think Spencer is going to start crawling soon. He rocks back and forth and does a frog leap, but can't quite get his legs to work. He does climb all over things and rolls around alot.

Here are a couple photos from last night:

Being here might be OK:

I don't think I like this:

This is the most horrible thing ever!

Now I'll play with my toy:

This one is from the other day.

What the heck is this thing???

Brady and I visited the Disney Store at the mall today.....still no cute light-weight Halloween costumes. But, I did get a picture of him in a Jack Sparrow pirate hat. He hated wearing it....but looked so cute!! pirate:

NICOLE- love the itenerary! it looks great- you guys are really fitting just about everything in. have you eaten at wolfgang puck's? I hear how great it is, but we love earle and always eat there at DTD. I love Ohana and have convinced my family to try it on our dec 09 trip. DH and i loved it. I don't plan down to 30 min increments, but i do plan some times- like what time we should leave the room in the morning by. and a general time frame for our midday break/nap (we always take 2 hours back at the resort). you are going to write a trip report, right?

NICOLE, KELLY and ANN- so jealous of your upcoming trips!

DENISE- sorry about MO not sleeping well. I let Will CIO. One night he went for 30 minutes. I usually watch him on his monitor. Last night, he cried for 5 minutes and then passed out. if i go in, it seems to start all over and he cries for longer. i know he isn't hurting or hungry. i always make sure he is good before i let him CIO. i've even tested it and walked up there and picked him up and in a split second, he is just fine, no crying. so i know it is just him fighting sleep.

POLLITO- totally agree with the importance of the schedule. I will probably write it up for DH and post it on the fridge, but even that will offend him. i guess i need to stress how important it is to keep the schedule and not skip meals or whatever. Hopefully he gets it.

KELLY- how awesome- you will be gone like 2 weeks? I am so envious! we are going to try Coral Reef on our next trip- did you read about how you can get personalized menus made and hav a diver hold up a sign saying happy birthday or something special? DH is the same way- saying- 'hey, he lived, didn't he?".....he thinks i overreact with all the safety stuff, but hey, he could get hurt. just because he hasn't doesn't mean anything.

JENNIFER- how cool on winning the trip- what week was it? I know they have been trying to give one away. that is awesome! We will have to try and meet up when we go on it then. it is my first time cruising ever! 4 weeks to go- good luck and hang in there- my DS was 8.6 and it was fine (and no c-section! lol)

DMICKEY- so sorry about the dog. that breaks my heart as it does yours. our two dogs don't get the attention they need either now, but they have each other and i think that helps. we try and make an effort to give them extra love when Will is in bed etc. I think continue trying to find him a good home before you go the shelter route. it might take time, but at least you would know he is in good hands.

BECK- i was thinking about BOMA or JIKO for our dec 09 trip. we aern't very exotic eaters though. would we all find enough to like at boma? I know at JIKO i want to try the filet and mac/cheese that people rave about. I might try and go to one of them the night before our podcast cruise since we will probably spend a few nights at the swan or dolphin before we go. Sorry about the car- what a pain. Dh can pull one apart and put it back together so we are lucky there- we own 4 mustangs (only 2 of which actually work!) and one diesel truck.....he used to drag race. lol

AMBER- Spencer is so cute!!!!

so i added my podcast cruise ticker- at least that is just 9 months away instead of over a year like my other trip! lol.......i wanted my sisters to go- but they can't afford to take off a whole week. So it is me, my parents and my cousin who is my mom's age, but like a second mom and close friend to me. She is a breast cancer survivor and single, so she really is part of our family. we will bunk together. My parents are treating us too. which wasn't my plan, but i am so appreciative! I can't wait- i've never cruised before. I asked DH about going and he showed slight interest, but then said it would be too hard with taking Will so young. plus it will be a LOT of disney freaks like me. He can only handle so much of that. :rotfl:

heading to do some shopping with sisters and mom tomorrow- they have a nice disney outlet at one of the malls. i got some great t-shirts, pajamas and mini plus christmas mickey and tigger for 99cents! i am collecting small goodies to do stockings for the kids for our trip next Christmas.

so here are some new pics of Will- i had to take one of him in mouse ears! you can see as my new avatar!

Since I have only gained 8 pounds and I'm 36+ weeks, I'm sure he is big. I feel like my skin is going to rip open any minute now, and I had plenty of skin to spare before I was pregnant. ;)

Michelle, I see you are going with us now on the Cruise Thread! Welcome Aboard! It's our first time cruising too. It was just a few weeks ago during the Christmas in July segments.

DD was 8 pounds and DS was 7.5, so I'm sure I'll be in that range again.

well hopefully it won't be too bad and maybe you will get a smaller one this time? :confused3 :wizard: are you taking all the kids on the cruise? I think a week at the beach with a 7 month old scared DH- at one point he said "a vacation wtih a baby isn't really a vacation".....lol....so i think that is why he doesn't want to cruise with us. so i'll leave him and DS alone for 'boy time' while i go relax for once. i have a hard time relaxing (type A!), so it should be nice.

So what all did your prize include? are you staying in orlando first for a few days before or after? What category room do you guys get? We will definitely have to plan to meet up so i can see your precious new baby!

AH hahahaha! We have a picture of Ellery in one of those!!!! We took it on DH's phone so I'll have to transfer it to the computer. That's too funny.

Becky- sorry about the car. That sucks. I have a new car, but I call it demolition Matrix because it's accident prone. First some guy ran into it at the mall parking lot. When we called the police they said that because it was private property that we would still have to pay for the damages so we didn't file a report and the next day when we talked to the insurance they said that the officer was totally not right and I guess he didn't want to file a report or something. So ergh. Then like a week after that I backed into my DH's Rav4. :headache: Oops. Then today I notice that some artillery fungus has attached itself to the car. Artillery fungus almost ruined my yellow VW bug, but I thought since my new car was blue it wouldn't attract the stuff. Wrooonggg...

I need to get in the bed. My back is killing me. I just finished these really cute cow overalls for Ellery. We have birthday parties all day tomorrow and the first one is "farm" themed. And since I need to get up early I probably shouldn't be on the computer at 1 am. :rolleyes1

Oh my. I know I'll miss someone while trying to respond.

My car is fine now. And Ash, my car is accident prone too! Just on the front driver's side, though. I have had two accidents in the car (one was my fault, one was not), and both times it crunched the front driver's side wheel/headlight area. It's cursed up there.

We have two cars- and DH's is about to bite the dust. We're just trying to stretch out not having another car payment (it's nice!). But, I'm starting to look and see what we're going to get next. We'll see.

Nicole- the beach sounds fun! And if you are worried about your camera just buy a disposable. That way it's not a HUGE deal if it gets lost/stolen. I'm like that with my camera- it was expensive (for us at least) and I'm not itching to replace it so I tend to be very wary of where I take it. Oh, and Halloween here can go either way- so some years we were wearing tights and long underwear and coats, other years we're fine in short sleeves. :confused3

Amber- Spencer is getting big!! He's so cute. :cutie: It's so funny when they find their belly buttons. Vaylie is obsessed with bellies. She wants everyone to lift their shirt so she can slap their bellies, then she puts her lips on it like she's going to blow raspberries, but she doesn't know how. :rotfl2:

exwdwcm- Anyone can eat at Boma and find something! DH and I took our nieces (3 and 5 at the time). The 5 yr old was adventurous- we tried a little of everything! DH and the 3 yr old are not as adventurous, but they found plenty to eat (she mostly ate kid food staples like spaghetti and chicken nuggets). But a lot of the dishes are somewhat common, just prepared a little different. Very tasty! And that top pic of will is TOO funny! He looks like he's laughing so hard he might pee!

Kelly- Brady looks so cute in the hat! What size does he wear? Because I have the cutest little Doctor outfit from Children's Hospital in St. Louis (it says "Doctor in Training" on the back and it looks like Doctor scrubs!). It's lightweight, too, if Brady wants to be a doctor, let me know! ;)

well hopefully it won't be too bad and maybe you will get a smaller one this time? :confused3 :wizard: are you taking all the kids on the cruise? It was a catagory a 10 secret porthole room, but we upgraded to a catagory 5. Long story short, we never got to celebrate our 10th anniversary because we were both laid off from the company we worked for after 17 and 12 years. We cancelled the plans we had to celebrate and never rescheduled. So when I found out I won I knew this was our chance to celebrate, so we will not be bringing the kids in May. BUT, when we go in June on the same exact cruise we will be bringing the kids (it's a family reunion cruise). So we'll be cruising in May and June!

Also, we are DVC members so we plan on arriving Saturday morning and staying at the BCV, and catching the transfers from the hotel to PC.

Back to the New Moms - Anyone have any luck potty training their little boy? Our son Ethan is 2.5 and is only slightly interested. We can get him to go, but he won't ask.:headache: I really want him trained quickly so we are only buying diapers for one.

FYI - I don't know if WDW will have actually lighter clothes but something I learned moving down here is that we have almost all the same clothes as they do up north. Our kids stores and BRU are FILLED with long sleeves, jackets, pants and sweaters ... :confused3 Yeah, maybe we can wear 1/2 of that for 3 days in February!!

I know what you mean! I just moved to Phoenix from Chicago, and it doesn't get cold here either, but BRU is full of winter coats and even snowsuits! Who needs a snowsuit when it's in the 70s?

I travel to LA a lot for business, and I have seen people wearing winter coats and scarves anytime it gets below 60, even in May!

I am so torn and heartbroken, I need some clearheaded advice.

My dog bite me tonight. I don't know what to do ... I have found two no-kill shelters in my county. It will break my heart to have to take him there. I just don't know ...

So sorry to hear about your dog! I hope the right family comes along to put your heart at ease.

Dumb, dumb car.

I hate dealing with unplanned expenses like that. Why do cars always break down at the worst time?

*************

My cousin just called and we are planning a family dinner at Melting Pot tomorrow night!  I love Melting Pot!

But of course there must be some drama to go along with it. My sister said she couldn't go b/c she doesn't have the money, but she is constantly talking about how much money her boyfriend has. He just bought her a coach purse for her b-day, and she says he is still getting her diamond studs. I think they can afford a dinner. She just can't do anything w/o making a big deal about it though. I almost wish she wouldn't go b/c now the whole night will be about her and the new bf instead of the whole family since she has to be the center of attention. Oh well, at least I will get a good dinner! :yay:

Mmmmmmm... Melting Pot. That sounds so good. Have fun!

Today V and I will be hanging out at home. DH is at work. I should run to wal-mart, but I just hate that place. But I have a few things I need to get.

My sis had her tonsils out on Friday :scared: She feels awful. I feel so bad for her. But, in the long run, she'll feel much better. She's always had problems with them and why they didn't take them out when she was younger is beyond me.

I am looking for a really cute Tinkerbelle outfit for Vaylie for Halloween and not really having any luck. The one on Disneyshopping.com for babies looks kinda cheap and flimsy. So, I'm thinking about making my own. But, I doubt we'll even go anywhere, so I don't want to go all out, really. I am so picky about costumes- my mom always made us really great costumes- we never bought from a store, and some of them were so fantastic (I was a bat one year and had umbrella bat wings).

Ash - Too funny that you have a pic of Ellery with the same pirate hat on!! Post the pic!!!

Becky - Brady is wearing 24 month clothes now. Thanks for the offer on the doctor's outfit!! I think we will wait and just buy something down at Disney....I'm sure we will be able to get something down there. I also don't even know how long he will be awake for the party! We have dinner ressie's at Ohana that night at 5:30....then over to the MK after that. Brady is pretty much like clockwork going to bed at 7:30 each night....hopefully he will at least make the parade! (Although I have no idea what time that happens...but I've heard it's good!). Again....thanks for the offer of the doctor outift!!! :goodvibes

Michelle and DVCsince02 - I am so jealous about your cruise!! We have never been on a Disney cruise. Maybe in the future. My parents took my brothers and I on a Disney cruise way back when it was The Big Red Boat. I remember it was so much fun. Maybe on our next trip we will do a land/sea trip.

Yesterday I went down to the Wrentham outlets with my best friend to find an outfit for Brady for her wedding (he is the ring-bearer along with her nephew). We went to the Strasburg Children store (for all of you with little girls....they have the most BEAUTIFUL dresses...check them out online... http://www.strasburgchildren.com/index.html). Here is what we ended up getting....they look so cute!!! Here is as pic of the outfit, and then one of Brady wearing it. Not a great pic of him (total deer-in-headlights look!)!!

I saw a really cute one at JC Penny the other day and it wasn't flimsy at all.

Hi ladies another carseat question. Do you know when the Britax usually go on sale and what the sale price usually is? I have a coupon but its only good through today for 20% off and i'm trying to decide to get the carseat now or to wait until they go on sale.

On other news I went to a scrapbooking crop Saturday and got alot done in Noah's album. I'll try to get some pictures this week and post them.

Sweet! I'll have to check out our JCP this weekend.

Kelly- Brady will be so cute as the ringbearer!

JennyL- I think someone here said they go on sale in Sept, but I can't remember exactly... 20% off is still good, though- probably similar to the sale prices. And good for you with the scrapbooking. I have finally given in to the fact that I'm not a scrapbooker. I wanted to be, but it just isn't gonna happen. I'd love to see pics though!

That is an adorable outfit. It looks so darn cute on your DS.
We went past Wrentham yesterday, oh my ...the traffic was horrible so we did not stop. I have a question...were the prices at the outlet the same as online. I am just wondering if it is worth a trip. My nephew is getting married in October and I need something for DS to wear. Thanks.

Ann

Jenny - I think I would buy the Britax with your 20% off coupon. As Becky said, the sale is usually about that anyway....and I agree that it's usually in September.

Ann - Thanks! ;) The prices in the store were a bit less as compared to online. Everything (except the new Christmas stuff) in the store was 20% off. AND there was a clearance rack (mostly summer stuff....I got Brady a few outfits for next spring/summer) that was REALLY cheap and then an additional 30% off!!!! They had some GREAT clothes on that rack.....some for like $20!!!
