I put some more pics of the twins in my snapfish album- look in the 7 month album. I swear they get cuter every day!!!

Sam & Zoe had their first twins club playgroup this week! We had fun, although they are older than the other babies. There is a set of B/G twins that are 4 months and B/B twins that are 3 months.

Too cute!!! :) Loved the picture of them skinny dipping in the pool w/their Bumbo's! lol

Hey Becky, have you gotten your dress yet? I want to see pictures!

I'm going to the beach tomorrow. Guess who hasn't started packing yet? I wasn't sure if we were going to make this at all, I had strep throat and then Ellery got some kind of weird thing on her face and we were worried it was Staph, but it's almost all gone now. Such a crappy week. Vacation better be better!

Well, I got some good news today....Kinda

I hurt my foot (i'm a klutz!) 2 weeks ago today. I was rushing to get changed for DS's end of year K picnic at school. Well, while I was taking off my pants, I put my leg down on the waistband of my pants and fell...again, i'm a KLUTZ. So, we have a sleigh bed and I whacked my foot and 3 toes on the frame of the bed, where the mattresses are held up.

So, nasty bruised foot & toes, painful to walk. Finally this week, the pain was going to the bottom of my foot, so I go for xrays. Got the call that they were negative, which is good. But I still have a ton of pain on the bottom of my foot.

So, if not better in 1 week, they want me to go to ortho....at least they aren't broken :0) I can only walk w/my sneakers on.

I'm kinda taking it easy this weekend DS 6 and hubby are at Loudon for the races for the weekend. I decided to stay home w/Brady.

Stacy - hope your foot is doing better soon. BTW - your DH and son are getting SOAKED right now. I work in the nex town over from Loudon, and you should see the rain coming down!!!!!

Geez...yesterday was the day of the dentists and today was the day of the accidents/xrays!

So...I was not around to post the QOTD earlier today becuase we had a f***ing awful disaster of a day!!!

Let me start with the ending -- Izzy is okay! She is not significantly injured! Mom and Dad are kind of ok - their hearts are not yet beating normally but they too will survive!

So - our day did not start out as usual today -- the *normal* morning routine is that DH leaves the house by 630am or so and he says bye to Izzy as he leaves and I get her up around 715-730am, get her dressed, feed her and take her to daycare -- that routine works well.

THIS morning- THAT routine did not happen! When DH went to say bye to her - he noticed she was soaked -- she peed so much it went through her diaper, jammies and the sheet. He called me in the monitor and said she peed the bed -- I got up and went to her room. By now, DH had Izzy out of the crib and on the changing table and I started to take off the sheets and remake the bed.

Well - DH has her sitting up on the changing table - she throws her toy - he stoops over to pick it off the floor - she leans over to see where he went - she goes crashing off the changing table and lands *hard* on her back on the floor with her arm twisted weird. At first hysterical crying and DH immediately picks her up -- then upon picking her up - the crying stops - she goes kind of limp - no crying no sound and her head is kind of rolling around. We are both hysterical!!

DH keeps saying "OMG don't be hurt - don't be dead - Izzy wake up" We lay her back on the changing table where she starts to do a whimper cry and move her legs and arms --- DH calls 911 while I stay with Izzy.

Ambulance shows up -- they check her out - stay with us for a while -- her pupils are reacting - she is crying -- she is focusing on the all the people in the room - she is moving her limbs -- they ask us to feed her which we do and she eats her bottle nad then some cheerios off the tray but we notice her right arm is on her lap while she eats (she is a lefty so we don't think much of it). Paramedics say they can take her to ER for monitoring but they think she is fine. We hem and haw about what to do and decide we will monitor her for awhile.

We stay with her for about 2 hours - during this time she is pretty normal - playing - kind of using both hands - smiling. So we decide we will take her to day care and go to work -- we told the daycare lady what happened and what to watch for...we leave her at daycare about 10am. At 1230 I get a call from Daycare -- Izzy is *not* doing well -- wimpering all day, won't eat, arm kind of hanging - cries if you touch her arm, fever....

So we call pediatrician again and he says go to ER. We both leave work, race to get her and get to the hospital. We spend 5 hours at the hospital!!! They check her head and rule out anything there -- but they think he arm is hurt! It takes 1/2 hour to get xrays of her arm...she is effin' hysterical the entire time -- the kind of crying where she can't breathe.

In the meantime - her fever is 102 degrees -- they give her tylenol...after an enternity they tell us nothing is broken -- THANK GOD!! But they think she pulled a muscle/soft tissue injury in her upper arm/shoulder area. They send us home with motrin and tylenol to bring down the fever - tell us we need to wake her ever 4 hours to make sure no severe head injury - take her to her Ped on Monday and if the arm is not better by Tues/Wed we should take her to an orthopedist specialist.

Needless to say - our nerves our fryed - this was a harrowing ordeal - terrifying to say the least.

We got Izzy home and feed her dinner and she ate all her food but did not want her bottle at all (but she had about 3 oz of formula 1.5 hours ago at hospital so maybe that's why) -- we gave her a bath (she seemed to like soaking in the warm water) and put her to bed - she fell asleep immediately.

We have to wake her up at 11pm so I am up waiting and watching her till then!

OMG - this was a terrible day!! Thank god she is ok!! I don't know how parents do this when their baby is seriously injured or really sick...we were just barely holding it together today.

I have not had a crying breakdown yet - still too nerved up - but I think that will happen soon!

Kiss you babies tonight! I don't think I truly realized how fragile and precious they are until today!

Hugs
Nicole

PS: QOTD to resume tomorrow!

Oh Nicole! I am soo glad Izzy is okay! Sounds like you did have a horrible day! Keep us updated on how she is doing!

Ok ladies....I need your help!!!

For the last 2 days, Brady will NOT drink any formula. Doesn't matter if it's in a sippy cup or bottle, or if it's hot/room temp/cold. I don't know what's going on??? We have been using the same formula since I stopped BF at 8 weeks. For the last 3 days, he has only been taking ~9 oz of formula. Meanwhile, he's eating like a champ and will drink water fine. I with-held water today because I thought he may be filling up on it....but it made no difference, and then I started worrying that he was getting dehyrdrated.

So.....I called my pedi. The on-call nurse said to go out and get some different types of formula and see if he would take them.  I was like, huh? Like I want to go out and buy a buffet-bar of formula to try? I asked about weaning him to whole milk, and you would have thought I asked to give him heroin! She was like, No way!! Again... He's 10 1/2 months old, and we were planning on starting whole milk at 12 months. I didn't think it was a big deal, but apparently it is??

I need some advice. Tonight I actually tried a different formula, but he wouldn't take it. They said if he doesn't start drinking at least 15oz per day, I will need to bring him in Sunday.

HELP!!! What should I do....or what would YOU do? :listen: :listen:

OMG Nicole.....((((hugs)))). What an awful day!!!! I am glad Izzy is doing well and is ok. How scary - it's amazing how things can change in an instant, huh? Did they think her fever was from the strain in her arm? Makes my formula-post seem like small potatoes!! ;) I will be thinking of you guys tonight!

Nicole - my heart stopped just reading it, I can't imagine how you must have felt. I hope she's feeling better.

Kelly - I don't know what to tell you. I'd just keep offering the formula and see what he does with it.

 Oh Nicole, I'm so glad Izzy is okay! My heart was racing just reading about it, I can only imagine how draining and stressful it's been for you.

Kelly, I've had concerns that Owen isn't drinking enough formula or nursing enough, too. Our dr. said to try whatever we felt okay doing, because she figures we've been smart parents so far and we know Owen better than she does. She said he needs 15-20oz of liquid a day, and if he isn't getting all of it through nursing or formula but he'll drink water, then just make sure he's taking infant vitamins and eating his solids okay. Right now I think Owen gets around 10oz a day either of formula or breast milk, and a little more via water, and then I give him vitamins. HTH, and good luck!

Nicole- Oh my gosh... You poor things. I am so glad Izzy is ok. I want to come give you a hug! Keep us updated.

Hey Becky, have you gotten your dress yet? I want to see pictures!

Boo, no. I can't wait to see it though!!! I will post pics as soon as I get it. :yay: Have fun at the beach. I'm totally NOT jealous. At all. Even a little. Really. :rolleyes1

Kelly- my SIL switched Dnephew to milk at around 11 months-he's fine. Nothing magical happens from 10 1/2 months - 12 months that makes them suddenly more capable of drinking milk. Maybe he's getting what he needs from food and water and doesn't need the formula as much. I really wouldn't worry unless he wasn't drinking/eating anything else either. As long as he's getting foods and liquids and isn't dehydrated, you're golden. I would NOT run out and buy a bunch of new formulas though. :faint: Go with your gut. If you think he might like milk, try it. If you feel like it's early, wait. You're right either way- he's your kid!! ;)

Denise- I had to laugh at your race home to get the keys. I woulda said, "Eh- they'll be there when I get home." :lmao: We live in a rural area, so I don't worry much about, well, anything- except wild animals. One time I was out with the dog and a coyote came waltzing up to us in my yard! :scared1: I freaked the hell out! Now, whenever I take Jules out at night I'm always looking all around.

Hi to everyone else! I'm loving all this activity on here too, and glad to see new ladies!! :hippie:

Our lesson of the day: Beets + Owen = Disaster!

We get a box of organic veggies every week from a local CSA farm group, and we always make Owen baby food from these veggies. I'd say about 1/3 of what he eats comes from our CSA box. This week we had a bunch of beets in the box - absolutely beautiful, yummy beets unlike any we've ever tasted before - and so we decided we'd mash up some of them and give them to Owen.

Owen chowed them down, and seemed to really like the taste of them, and we were thinking, "good job baby! way to go liking new veggies!"

Then about 15 min. later he starts getting fussy, and we can't figure out why, but it just gets worse and worse. Finally it occurs to us that Owen might have gas - something we haven't really dealt with since he was 3 or 4 months old - so we start trying to burp him again. Owen gets out one good, meaty burp, and seems okay. But for the next 15 minutes he proceeded to alternate between burping and spitting up beets!! Oh, it was a tragic comedy with DH and I both trying to keep the beet spit up from staining anything important, and still trying to comfort Owen. Fortunately, we were able to get some gas medicine into him and he kept it down, but he managed to go through 3 clothing changes, got two boppy covers, and made both DH and I change our clothes twice as well!

Funny boy went to sleep with the hiccups, but much happier. And his mommy and daddy have decided that we won't feed him beets again for a while, no matter how much he may have liked the taste!

Thanks for the advice ladies! :goodvibes I agree with you all....I think I got really nervous when the pedi said that if he wasn't getting 15-18oz per day, I should bring him in. When I stopped to think about it, he probably is getting that with a mix of formula/water each day...and he eats a ton of food, so he is getting nutrients in other placs. Every mom I have talked to has said not to stress about it - especially since he is eating fine and drinking water fine. This morning he took 3oz right when he got up, and then 6oz before his morning nap!! So, we are already doing better than the past few days. I think it's just a phase - and if it continues, I do plan on trying regular milk. The best part is that he is happy and acting fine, so I am not going to worry until his behavior changes drastically. Thanks again everyone....you always know how to make me feel better!

OMG Bethany...the beets story is too funny! Poor kiddo...great going down, but not so great coming back up! ;)

Let me start with the ending -- Izzy is okay! She is not significantly injured! Mom and Dad are kind of ok - their hearts are not yet beating normally but they too will survive!

Geez, what a day you had! I'm glad that she's okay, but I know you must be beside yourself with fear. Give her lots of extra hugs and kisses!! Poor thing!!

Hi Guys...thanks for all your kind words - they made me cry!

We had a rough night - poor kid kept waking up crying -- in her sleep she would move her arm and then it would hurt and she would cry.

Plus -- around 9pm - her fever spiked REALLY high -- 104.3 (rectally) - we call the ER doctor and he says way too high -- give her motrin immediatley - wait 20 minutes - if its not 101 come back to ER right away. She was burning up -- we had her naked except for her diaper - lying on a sheet on the couch with the a/c on...we give her the motrin - wait 25 minutes - take temp - its down to 102.6 -- down but still not 101. We decide to wait another 15 minutes and take it again (but meanwhile I am getting dressed and packing her diaper bag for the ER)...15 minutes later its 101.2.

We call the ER doc back and tell him what's going on...he says hold off for now on coming back in -- give her some water/juice and keep alternating tylenol/motrin. She won't drink the juice but does drink her formula. We wait till her next tylenol dose -- 11pm -- give it to her - take her temp rectally again -- this time its 100.9 and but her to bed.

She keeps waking up but temp is going down. More motrin at 6am -- temp then is 99.9 --- she "sleeps" till 10am -- tylenol then and temp is 98.1 -- so we think the fever has broken and hopefully that hurdle is crossed.

She still won't use her right arm at all though - she is in her highchair now eating Gerber finger foods and cheerios -- left hand only. We have been giving her things to reach with her right hand for and she will use her fingers/wrist but won't raise the arm. Usually, both arms on the tray of the highchair when she eats but right now the right arm is hanging down in her lap.

We are still petrified...I keep wondering what the doctors missed in her arm. They said they did not want to do an MRI to check for soft tissue/muscle/ligament stuff unless it did not get better by early next week...I HATE that we have to wait that long!

So --- today will undoubtedly be another LONG day -- but hopefully no ER visits.

My DH and I have tickets to an outdoor concert at Tanglewood -- we had been planning this all day date day for months (shopping at the Lee outlets, early dinner, tailgaiting at Tanglewood, then the concert) -- but its 1.5 hours away adn we just are too nervous to leave her---so that is off. We are a little bummed but KNOW its the right thing to do.

My heart is breaking for her that she is in pain -- wish I could help her more.

Thanks again for all your kind words and thoughts -- so glad I have you guys!!

*************************

Kelly -- sorry to hear about Brady's formula disiniterest -- Izzy went through that stage too...our doctor told us that disinterest in formula as they get older is a GOOD thing because you want them to wean off the formula and onto milk by age 1. I would talk to ped again about maybe mixing milk and formula. Hopefully this is just a temporary thing and he gets back into drinking soon. It seems to me he would just rather eat then drink -- maybe smaller doses of formula more often throughout the day?

Bethany -- the beets story is hysterical -- sounds like a FUNNY mess!! Note to self...no beets for Izzy.

Hi to all...have a good day today. Big kisses to all the little ones.

--Nicole

Welcome Lenore -- glad you are joining us.

Ok -- I need my routines to return to normal...so - the question of the day must return...

QUESTION OF THE (weekend) DAY If you child had been the opposite sex - what would his/her name have been?

Had Izzy been a boy - her name was going to be Dominic Michael. If we are lucky enough to have a sibling for Izzy and its a boy - that will be his name.

Ohhhhhh....good question Nicole!

If Brady had been a girl, he would have been Kendall Faith. Kendall because we just liked it, and Faith after my mom.

Funny enough, I'm not a huge fan of Kendall anymore, so if we have a girl next, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't use it. I actually don't know what we would use if we had a girl. If we have a boy, it will most likely be Mason Scott. Mason because we just like it, and Scott after my DH.

Ok weird? Just posted this, and it popped-up on the previous page??? Here it is again....

QUESTION OF THE (weekend) DAY If you child had been the opposite sex - what would his/her name have been?

Owen would have been Miriam Rosemary. Miriam because I've always liked that name, and Rosemary after my mom. I've had it picked out for YEARS! :)

Before DH and I were even engaged, I told him that I had a name picked out for my first daughter, and it was non-negotiable. He said that was fine, but he had a girl's name picked out, too, so he wanted to name the 2nd girl. We worked out a deal then, and agreed that we'd probably only have 2 kids, and this is how naming would work:

1st girl - I name, DH has no veto power
1st boy - DH names, I have no veto power
2nd girl - DH names, I have some input, but he makes final call
2nd boy - I name, DH has some input, but I make final call

So no matter if we had 2 girls, 2 boys, or 1 of each, we'd each get to name one of our kids. And the funny thing is we're both perfectly comfortable with this arrangement, even down to having no veto power on some of the names.

Of course, now I'm not sure there's going to be a 2nd child, so I guess I don't get to use any of my names. Oh well. I like Owen Rhys, and I'm not interested in having a 2nd just so I can have my turn to name a baby! :rotfl:

First of all,

Now for the question of the day... If Amanda Joy had been a boy.. Hmmm... that's really a hard one, for we hadn't really picked out a boy name for her! We found out right away she was a girl, so concentrated on that. Guess that was pretty brave of us, huh? lol Anyway, boys names that I had floating around in my head were Noah Steven, Joshua Steven, and Owen Steven (Steven is my DH's name!).
