The new "New Moms" thread!

I have the Peanut Shell sling. Here's the website. http://www.goo-ga.com//

Ellery is getting too tall to carry her cradle style anymore so I might have to try her kangaroo style or whatever. But it feels very sturdy and its pretty too.

I have a homemade Moby wrap. I just got 6 yards of material (jersey cotton or polyester/cotton mix) and wrap it like a Moby. Works awesome, holds the baby very tight to you-and there are several wraps you can do for comfort. And it fits my DH, though if your DH is big, you might want to get a bit extra material.

For the material, Jersey cotton (t-shirt material) or a polyester cotton mix works great because they are stretchy, but not too stretechy, plus they are light and not hot, and the ends don't fray, so you don't have to sew it!

The only complaint I have is that its a LOT of fabric to carry around.

But, I literally paid $6 for my 6 yards, so I try not to complain about it ever! :)

Glad to hear Owen has a new nap record!!! :yay:

I know I'm not on this thread a lot, or anything, but I wanted to share a couple pics of my little Henry from his 6 month photo shoot!

Thanks for letting me share my little man! :goodvibes

Oh I am soooooo sick of this snow!! We got more yesterday - hopefully it won't last long. The weather is supposed to even get up to the 60s this Tuesday, so that is good! Here are some pics of what it looked like out my front door yesterday, and some of Brady in his sled. He wasn't having too much fun....I think he is sick of the snow too!! ;)

Oh, and I wanted to say-I can't see your pics, but I totally understand! It snowed AGAIN last night here! UGH! :headache:

brookelizabeth - what a cutie! Those are great pics.

Christopher isn't feeling so hot lately. He doesn't really want to eat, doesn't really want to play, just isn't acting like himself. I'm hoping he feels better when he wakes up from his nap. I hate seeing him not feeling good.

Hey everyone, we finally made it to Arizona after our 3 day road trip across the country. We didn't leave until late afternoon the first day, so the trip seemed to take forever. But we made it safely, and the weather is beautiful. And best of all, my mom brought Alex back on a plane, so we didn't have to battle a 1 year old during the 3 day drive! :thumbsup2

Hiya Ladies :)

So Amanda Joy is now 2 1/2 months, and we think she's starting to teeth!! :scared1: Not that she's cranky due to it (well, not always), but DH noticed something on her lower gum yesterday, that looks like the start of a little hole, and you can see a bit of white! Yikes!!! I am so not ready for this yet! I was hoping on a few more months of gum nursing! lol She is starting to drool a bit more, and her hands are usually in her mouth... when she's not staring at them! :rotfl: We bought her some wrist rattles this weekend, and she loves them! She's quite good at entertaining herself for a while by staring at them.

She's also very determined to sit up! She's doing great holding her head up... she's very strong... but loves to be in a sitting position! She's also trying her best, to roll over.

my DD (8) cleaned out her room over the weekend, and decided to get rid of this lighted ball.... well, we may have to keep it, Amanda LOVES it!!!

Thanks for this tip! And thanks to the others who gave baby carrier/sling recommendations! A friend who uses the same diaper service we do told me that she thinks they have a Moby wrap I could try in their store, so I'm thinking we'll make a trek over there to check it out, and if I like it I'll go buy the fabric and make my own! :thumbsup2 Oh, and Owen has broken his nap record again - he napped for almost an hour in the Amby yesterday! Woo hoo!! :woohoo:

I hope Christopher feels better soon! It is so hard when they don't feel well.

Glad you made it safely! Hope settling in goes well. How's Alex doing with the transition so far?

Isn't it fun to see the babies grow? Owen has started drooling a lot and chewing on his hands, but so far there's no signs of any teeth erupting yet. A nurse told me that the teeth could be moving but they still might not erupt for another few months, so we'll see...

Owen doesn't want to sit - he wants to stand! The goofball will push up hard with his legs and refuse to bend his waist or knees. We'll hold him steady and he stands there swaying and looking around with a slightly startled expression. :rotfl: DMIL said that DH was walking at 9 months, but didn't learn to crawl until after he was a year old. :scared1: I'm hoping Owen won't go that route.

Hey ladies!

I'm so glad to have found everyone again -- I missed everyone so much!

I can't believe how quickly the past 9 months have gone. Colin will be 9 months next week already! I don't really want him to get any older, since the end of my maternity leave is drawing near (July).

I'm amazed every day at what he's doing. He's eating solids and we're starting with table foods. We did our first trip to Disney and are going again in May for a long weekend.

Colin has 2 teeth and I think the top one is VERY close -- cranky little thing lately!!

I think someone mentioned that they're going to WDW in December -- I think we'll be there at the same time! We're using our DVC for a 2 bedroom and my parents are coming with us, which will be fun! Our trip in May is because we got a GREAT rate with our annual passes, and our flights were pretty cheap. Anyone have any good tips for flying with little ones??

Hope everyone's doing well. We're having our baby group over tomorrow for some mommy chatting and baby playing. We've been meeting since September (after our "baby basics" class offered through our public health unit ended) and it's amazing how much more ROOM the kids need now...we used to be able to plop them down on blankets and just sit and chat. Now, we have to chase after them!

We're planning on going the first week in December and I really hope it doens't fall through. I need a vacation.

Anyone's baby have sweaty hands and feet? Ellery's hands and feet are always wet, it's weird. I don't know if I should ask her pediatrician or what.

Well, so far the Amby isn't a miracle bed, but it's definitely better than the cradle. Owen is napping for about 40 min in the Amby instead of 20 min in the cradle, and he doesn't get into big screaming fits in it - he just fusses and does his "complaining" cry. Sometimes he's even content to just lay in there awake and look at toys I've put on the crossbar. It still can be difficult to get him to fall asleep in the Amby or to stay asleep when we lay him down in there, but once he's asleep he usually goes for 40 min. I think sometimes Owen is startled by the motion of it when he's falling asleep. Plus it doesn't help that our 9 month old kitten, Alton, likes to make the hammock move so if he manages to sneak into the room when I'm putting Owen to sleep he will push on the bed and startle Owen.

So we'll see...I've heard that there is often a transition period when you start a baby in the bed after they're a month or two old, so there's a chance this will get better.

Hey, does anyone use a Moby wrap or similar style baby carrier? Or try one and not like it? I'm looking for various opinions on it and trying to find a friend around here who has one I could try out. I've been using a Maya wrap ring sling that I borrowed from a friend and it's okay, but it doesn't feel as secure as I'd like. The snuggli feels more secure and balanced, but isn't as flexible and I'd like a few more options for carrying Owen as he gets bigger. I'm also wondering if the Moby wrap would really fit my "Pooh-sized" DH. The ring sling is a medium and it's a little too small for him, and he can't wear the snuggli at all. Anyone have any experiences with a Moby, good, bad, or indifferent?

I'm glad to hear he's giving you a little break with the Amby bed. I think those things are so neat, just couldn't bring myself to spend the money since we always end up co-sleeping anyway.

I have been researching slings since I was newly pregnant and still haven't taken the plunge and bought one. I recently met someone that makes them at my new mom's club, and she can make me a custom one so I think I'll go with that. It's just so hard to shop for something like that on the internet, and all the ones in stores get bad reviews. I love my Bjorn, but I wanted something more practical for nursing in.

Owen's feet are always sweaty, even if I don't put him in socks. His hands, however, are often cold! Don't know what's up with that...maybe I should be putting the socks on his hands instead of his feet!

RE: Sweaty hands and feet.

Yep, he's a little sweat machine, especially if his feet have been cooped up in his Robeez for a while. I don't think it's anything to worry about though -- I think it's part of their method of reglating their body temps.

RE: Slings and things...

I have something similar to a Hotsling that was made by a local lady. I love it. Colin likes to sit like a Buddha in the front and face out, but also likes the hip carry. When he's in it, I've been able to feed him a bottle (in the middle of a very crowded store at the Magic Kingdom (Martin Luther King weekend, Brazillian tour groups, cold weather = impossible navigation of Main St right before Wishes!). He also slept through The Haunted Mansion in it. We haven't used it much lately, because it doesn't fit over winter jackets, but now that it seems spring is around the corner up here, we'll probably start using it more often!

As for the Moby -- I've tried it myself (admittedly "Pooh sized") and liked it. It's very comfy, and Colin seemed very "balanced" in it so I didn't have any pressure points. I haven't bought yet, and probably won't, since we've had success with the sling, but it was a challenge the first time getting myselt into it -- kind of like origami!

RE: Disney in December

We'll be there from the 6th to the 14th. Right now, we're booked into Animal Kingdom and Saratoga (because we own at both...) but we're hoping to get into Wilderness Lodge or Boardwalk for the whole time when we can book at our non-home resorts. *crosses fingers*

I want to go to Disney sooo bad this year, but it's not going to happen... Boo.

We're definitely going next year though! The funds just aren't there for a trip this year, so I think we're going to take an extended weekend in St. Louis- go to the zoo, City Museum, and just hang around town. I'm excited.

And, I have decided to get a BOB stroller. Even though the prices are totally scary (Syrreal helped talk me into it, since she raved about it). But, it's going to be my Mother's Day/birthday combo present, and we're going to use part of the stimulus rebate check towards it. (See how I am totally justifying this?). I have heard nothing but raves about them, and I told my DH that I'd keep the infant carseat we have for the next kid and use it with the stroller (although I am going to have to buy a new cover for it). But, I'm pumped- I want to order my BOB right now!

ETA- concerning slings: I have a Peanut Shell sling and love it. It's comfy and sooo cute. Vaylie likes it too.

I catch this thread every now and then. I should sticky it or something.

Henry looks adorable. So big!!

Amanda Joy is growing up so fast!! Beautiful.

I hope Christopher is feeling better. My little guy was a little off this week as well. I can't tell if it is/was a cold or allergies. It seems to come and go.

We have our first 1st birthday party this weekend. I can't believe my LO is almost a year. It's so sad. He is eating almost all table food, only baby food when he's cranky. He has (get this) 12 teeth. Yes 12 teeth ... his top and bottom front four have been in for a while and the last week or so he has popped through the top and bottom left molar, top left and right cuspids. OUCH .... He's almost walking. He takes about 4-8 steps before stopping and sitting down. I miss my LO guy.

Here are a few pics I took yesterday ...

Hope everyone is doing well. I hope that the Amby bed helps!!

DMickey - he is adorable!!!!! 12 teeth already?!?!?! Christopher has 6, and I think 7 is on the way. Anything that gets near his mouth must have the tooth test - how hard can I bite this?

I'm just starting to plan his birthday party. Mostly just family, since we have to do it around supper time (DH is in a class that he can't skip for the day)

At least he's feeling better - he was up most of Tuesday night with croup. DH brought the rocking chair into the bathroom, turned on the shower, and sat in there with him for about an hour. I felt so bad being at work, but I couldn't find anyone to come in for me either. :guilty:

I love all the baby pics on here - I think we must be the cutest thread on the Dis! :cutie:

Glad you made it safely! Hope settling in goes well. How's Alex doing with the transition so far?

Thanks, he seems to be doing well. One small meltdown when DH & I first arrived, but he's been fine since.

DMickey - Happy 1st Birthday Alexander! He is getting so big! And 12 teeth already - my Alex only has 6! Has he had his first haircut yet?

DS also gets sweaty feet and cold hands, I thought it was a boy thing, but it seems to be a normal baby thing.

We also have a trip planned to WDW in December. We will be at CSR from 12/10 -12/17 with my mom and younger sister. I'm so excited for DS's 1st trip - probably more than he is! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Anyone have birth announcements made? If so what company or internet site did you use?

I didn't do birth announcements. Since Ellery was born in December, I just sent out christmas cards from shutterfly.

I finally got around to downloading Easter pics.
