The new "New Moms" thread!

Bethany- I had never heard of an Usborne party until you mentioned it. Is it like a Pampered Chef party for kid's books? I'd be in trouble. Sounds cool, though. Is it more expensive than just buying from a bookstore?

And that is awful about your mom. I don't blame you for being super cautious, and thank you for warning us, too. :hug:

DMickey- What a tough day for the kiddos, huh? Vaylie is fine- just a bump. I was SOOO lucky she fell in a way that minimized damage. :guilty: How's Alexander today?

Pollito- I had MRSA after Vaylie was born. It was tough to get rid of. The thing that finally worked was antibiotic cream that I had to rub into my nostrils (staph lives in your nose). That, plus the orals and other creams finally worked and I never had another spot.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I cried so much yesterday that I ended up waking up with a massive headache and swollen eyelids at 5am. So, I took a bunch of medicine and went back to sleep. :sad2: I feel better today (I'm still so angry at myself for letting it happen, but lesson learned). And Vaylie is just fine. Actually, she was fine as soon as she got her cookie yesterday (DH was in line for them when I took her into the bathroom). She was dancing all over. While Mommy was still recovering from a mini-heart attack.
But, after that I went into the Sephora store. The good? It made me feel better. The bad? It cost $127. :laughing:
I needed new foundation, though, and I don't have good skin (very oily and acne prone). So, I decided to buy a new skin-care regimen from Murad to try. And some new foundation. And foundation primer. And some lipgloss (it's from Bare Escentuals and it's called Buxom Lips- it's awesome). So, $127 later, I felt a little better- at least a little prettier. I really hope the Murad stuff works.
Today, I need to go to Wal-Mart. :crazy2: I get sick of Wal-Mart, but since we live in the sticks, it's the only thing close by, and I need to get groceries. I have to drive 30 minutes for a Target, and about 45 minutes to get to a mall. And I just hate to spend the gas money if it isn't necessary, kwim?
That is so scary about Vaylie's fall. I just know Alex would do the same thing if I turned my back for a second. He fell off a kiddie chair at a consignment sale yesterday and I felt terrible about that. Though I think half his crying was a show he put on for all the people standing there watching him. :rolleyes:
We did have a couple of good finds though, including a play kitchen set for only $13! It was originally $25 (probably sold for $50+ in stores), but everything was 1/2 price after noon. :banana: :banana: Alex also fell in love with a Wiggles guitar that plays their songs and has barely put it down since he found it. He even danced around the sale holding the guitar while everyone laughed at him (that was after he fell, so I know he was ok). :dance3:
I've never heard much about MRSA before, but my sister works in a hospital, and she says it has been really common lately. So after you got rid of it, are you cured or do you have it for life?
I never really liked Wal-Mart either, probably b/c the one closest to us by our old house was a total dump and was always so crowded you had to park really far away and wait forever to check out. But they seem nicer and cleaner out here. And I got an e-mail that they are having some kind of promotion from Huggies right now, so there might be some good deals and free samples.
What's with all the little ones falling... I hope they're all ok.
brady isn't falling, just has a stomach bug and has puked in my car 2x within 24 hours. I took my carseat out to clean it and grabbed hubbys this afternoon. He was fine the whole time we were out, about 10 minutes from home he decided to get sick again...so now I have hubbys seat out and being washed.
At least they'll be clean for my mom to take them. We leave for Alaska on Tuesday, I'm excited and nervous. I know the boys will be fine w/my mom...but it's me I'm more nervous about, I'm going to miss them!!
This is now the 2nd cruise, 4th vacation that I've been pregnant on. On disney I was able to get my favorite drink w/out the liquor. I'm sure I will on this one too...but the banana one on Disney is my favorite!!
We went out today and I avoided walmart!! I know what you guys mean about not liking them. The one closest to me is dirty. There is one a little further away that isn't bad, but I don't like going there, unless I have to. Of course it is the only 1 of 2 places that I can find huggies overnights around here, so I do have to go about 1x per month for those.
well...off to pack, I think I should do that. I'm baking cupcakes for my oldest's bday tomorrow to bring to school, I don't know what I was thinking, I should have just bought them!! Made the frosting and it's tooooo yummy.
Becky, the Usborne book party is like a Pampered Chef, Tupperwear, etc. party where the consultant comes to your house with some sample books and everyone gets to look them over and peruse a huge catalog and (maybe) order books. You do pay a small shipping fee on the books by ordering this way, but you at least get to see all the books available, which you don't usually get in a bookstore. My first wish list of books was over $500 - had to cut that down a bit! :rotfl:
Ugh, my WDW dreaming was fed yesterday - I got a pin code for room (value of course) + tickets + free dining that was amazing - and within our budget - but it's just not good timing and there's no way DH will be persuaded to go. (Not for lack of trying on my part, but he's got no vacation time so it honestly won't work.) :sad1: As one of my best friends said, there's always a chance that I'll get another one next year and it will give me more time to save up for a room upgrade. sigh. I even checked airfare, and found round trip tickets at just $250/ea with just one stop, which is really amazing for going from San Jose to Orlando. double sigh.
Pollito- too cute about the Wiggles guitar, but man- I cannot stand the Wiggles. I try to avoid them at all cost so Vaylie doesn't get hooked. :laughing: Most other kids shows I can handle.
Stacy- your trip sounds like fun! And Ijust made a bunch of cucpakes resembling monkeys the other dayfor work (we're kicking off a new Kid's Club savings account), and I always volunteer to do that stuff knowing I have no time, then I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get it all done. But, I love to decorate cakes and cupcakes, and I love to cook in general, so the girls at work have designated me the official cook for any and all acitivies.
Bethany- *sigh*. I know what you mean about trip planning. My SIL, BIL and nephew are leaving Friday. :sad: I want to go so badly, but it just isn't in the cards this year.
Good Morning! Thought I might drop in on this thread now that my little one has arrived (9/2). Actually, Lila is my 4th, but it has been 6 years since my last and I can't remember if I am doing all of this right :laughing: . Seriously, between feeling like I am already screwing her up and getting antsy in the house, I think I might lose it. Luckily, DH doesn't have to go back to work until next Monday, but then I am on my own in the mornings with 4 kids. I better get a plan of attack together now!
Sorry I have not posted in awhile...I am reading everyday though so as not to be out of the loop...this thread is so active (yay) lately...I fail to post for just a few short days (ok - 10 days but who is counting) and there is so much news! I have missed you ladies!!!
Dmickey : I am so sorry to hear about Lobo but you absolutely 100% did the right thing. I hope you are doing okay. Is DS doing better from his bump on the head - how scary!!
DVCsince02 : Good luck on Wednesday with the induction. I was induced with Izzy and it was not too bad - once my water broke everything seemed to happen fast from there. Good luck!! Check in when you can.
Kelly : I am so glad things look ok with the kidney and all. Your trip sounds like it is going awesome. I checked out your blog and I love the adorable pictures of Brady. You look great too!! I bet you guys are having the best time ever. I can’t wait to go!!
Bethany : Negotiating with a 2 year old – I was going crazy reading your post. Are those people on crack - I mean seriously - that is bizarre!!! Your book party sounded fun. And I know what you mean about the pillow wall – we try to do that now too - although I am not to sure it would hold Izzy in if she wanted to crawl over the pillows. One time my husband got her up some weekend morning and brought her upstairs to our room and put her in bed with me (with no pillow wall) - in my half asleep state I acknowledged she was there and then he left (ugh - men!!) to go to the bathroom and the next thing I now I hear a thud and screams – she rolled/crawled right off the bed – I apparently fell back asleep not even realizing she was in the room with me!! You should have heard that fight between me and DH – I was telling him he should not have left her when he knew I was asleep and he was yelling at me that I should not have been sleeping if I knew she was in the bed! I felt like a terrible mommy!! Luckily she was okay but that was right on the heels of her falling off the changing table so of course we felt like child protective services was going to come and get us!! So sorry you got a pin code you can’t use - that sucks - its like rubbing salt in the wounds!!
Pollito : Glad Alec has fun in the pool – its great that you are teaching him to like the pool/water – I always feel bad for kids that are afraid of the water. MRSA - geez - how scary!! My secretary’s husband has that – and you have to be careful! Is it confirmed as MRSA?
Becky : May I just say that I love your posts - you crack me up. And you and Ash with your political support group. Too funny. After you posted about the All You magazine - I checked it out and I must say that is super cool - you are totally a celebrity now!! Congrats on the weight loss - sounds great - I need to check that out after vacation. How is Vaylie doing from the fall? How scary and awful for you - I know how heart stopping that can be. You are a great mommy though - don’t blame yourself and it sounds like Ms. V is doing great. Glad you treated yourself to new makeup – sometimes a girl needs those splurges. And I know what you mean about Walmart...it’s the devil - I can go in there for 2 or 3 quick things and come out $100 later and be like - W - T - F - how did I just spend $100?
Ash : As I said above to Becky - so funny you two with your political addiction threads! I must say that I love love love Ellery’s eyeore costume – it is so cute - just adorable – and you got some great pictures. Eyeore is my absolute favorite character – I still have my battered and worn eyeore toy that I had 34 years ago – it is on a bookshelf in Izzy’s room now. I love Eyeore. And yay Ellery - her first tooth!! I am so impressed by the way that you are so crafty and able to make her Halloween costume - I wish I could do something like that!! I have to give some serious thought to Izzy’s halloween costume - her first Halloween is very important. And Halloween is my favorite holiday!!
Michelle: Congrats on the new job. It is so hard and scary to break out of your comfort zone nad try something new - I am proud of you!!! The new job sounds great. Good luck! And how is Will doing? What is he going to be for Halloween?
Meredith : Are you ok from Hanna? I was thinking of you guys. Yay for the twins for eating finger foods! They are getting so big!!
Jen in NH : So funny about wanting to go back to work for a break - I know what you mean. That must have been scary when Christopher got his leg stuck in the crib and then took a tumble outside - poor little guy. I was noticing on the budget board that you won a House Party - congrats!! Wish I knew about these House Party things last month - the Fisher Price one looked awesome!!! I sure would have loved some new free toys for Izzy!
Denise : Hi – glad to hear Mo is doing great with his sippy cup! Have you moved to Atlanta yet?
Ms. Explorer : Hi – nice to see you! Sorry to hear about your recent terrible week - a fender bender and DS sick...ugh!! Hope things are better now!
Tiggerstac : Have a great time on your cruise – how awesome!! I have always wanted to take an Alaskian cruise. Are you flying out of Logan? Congrats on the pregnancy as well – hope you are feeling good!
Mickey Flier : Welcome!! I love the name Lila!! I notice you are a fellow Patriots fan – didn’t you die yesterday when Brady went down - I felt like my heart stopped. If the rumors are true and he is out for the season – it is going to make for a long few months in Patriots Nation.
This message has gotten really long...I am going to post my updates in a separate message!
Hello again...
So - the WDW countdown is on...5 more days till we leave. I am *so* excited - I just can’t wait. And it looks like the hurricanes are all going to miss WDW next week so that is great news. I spent the weekend packing for Disney and packing Izzy for her stays with all her grandparents. She is with my dad on the weekend, with my MIL Mon-Wed, with my mom Wed-Friday and with my dad again Fri-Sat...they are all so excited to have her sleep overnight!
Izzy is doing great by the way— you may remember how nervous I was that she was not crawling at 9 months and I had an Early Intervention done and they said she was fine! Well - not only is she crawling now with great speed but she is pulling up to standing with ease and she walks when you are holding her hands and she has started to cruise holding onto furniture. Yay! We are so happy! We still have our appt tomorrow at Childrens Hospital with the orthopedic just so he can check on her ankle strenghth but given how good she is doing I doubt anything further will have to happen.
So - last week - I had one of the biggest moments ever in my career ----- I argued a case before the Supreme Court of my state – the highest court in our state – a panel of 7 judges – it was awesome!! And I think I did pretty good. I won at the trial court and the appeals court so hopefully I will win at the Supreme Court as well – won’t know for about 6 months though!
We had a first last night – me nad my mom went out to dinner and brought Izzy (we went to a new chain restaurant out here called Texas Roadhouse - steak place - very good!!) anyway – I ordered Izzy a children’s meal – she is only 10.5 months old but she eats like a little adult. I got her a sirloin tips kids meal with green beans and gave her a couple of my french fries – she loved it!! It was so cute.
We leave for Disney on Saturday morning – leaving our house at 7:00am for our 10:30am flight!! I am so freaking excited I can’t even sleep – all I do is think about the trip. Me nad DH really need a vacation and really need some time alone together – and its our 8th anniversary we are celebrating!! We have decided to drop Izzy off at my dad’s on Friday night so she can sleep there – that way we don’t have to wake her up at 6am on Saturday – plus - I think it will be too hard to say goodbye to her on Sat morning and then fly out – I would rather have Friday night to recover from having to leave her! I know she will be fine though - she is in good hands with all her grandparents!
Have a great day ladies!
Hugs,
Nicole
we are good from Hanna...lost power for about 3 hours in the middle of the night. Also, the computer died, so now I have a new computer....now we need some high speed internet to go with it...:rolleyes1 ....@%&$ dial up!!!!;)
The twins ate meatloaf and green beans over the weekend! I am soo proud! Zoe has let go of the couch for a couple of seconds here lately, and sometimes you can get both of the twins to "stand" for a couple of seconds of you put them in a tanding position. I bet I have walkers by the time we are a year.
I love hearing all the updates lately and am thinking of all of ya!:goodvibes
Nicole - isn't it scary when you finally ahve to order them their own meals? We decided to order Christopher his own the other day, and then figured DH would eat whatever was left. Needless to say, my little horse didn't have much left :) I think the days of eating off mommy's plate are over....
Congrats on the case, by the way. Sounds neat!
Have a good trip!
Amie- I didn't even know that you were going to have a baby! Has it been that long since we've talked? Well, Congratulations! And I love the name too!
Beck- how scary on Vaylie- glad she is okay, but sorry you were so shaken up. i would have been too. We all do it though- i've had 2 near misses with Will already, catching him literally midair both times.
Pollito- so sorry about the bite or MRSA, hope it heals quickly!
Stacy- so next week off to Alaska, how exciting! hopefully you can enjoy some good 'virgin' drinks!
Mickey Flier- welcome! hang in there, i know those first few weeks and months are hard. Love the name Lila!
Nicole- welcome back! :rotfl: will is going to be a pirate for halloween. i can't wait. it is so hot in TX that we can't do the big furry cute costumes. So excited about your trip- you MUST do a trip report. i need to see your itenerary again! i already forgot what all you are doing. and that is awesome on the state supreme court- way to go girl!!!!! :banana: :worship: i've thought of ordering Will a kid's meal, but haven't done it yet, that boy can eat though.
Meredith- glad you guys are okay with the storms!
welll gotta get on a conference call!
Denise : Hi – glad to hear Mo is doing great with his sippy cup! Have you moved to Atlanta yet?
-Nicole
Hey Nicole! :wave:
Oh no...we aren't in Atlanta yet and I'm afraid we still have a couple of years for that, but I tell you what, if you ladies are still around here, or I'm still around here on this thread, you'll be some of the first to know! :thumbsup2 :cool1: I did start school on Aug 21st and things are going REALLY well right now. Only taking one class, but I'm having a blast and looking forward to getting some of my pell grant back later this month and the $145 I paid before the grant came through. Looking forward to that REALLY soon! :cool1:
Mo is 9 months old! What the heck happened??!! He's such a good boy and I cannot believe how well he is doing. I introduced eggs to him sunday and he did well. Only gave him the whites of course and he seemed to enjoy them. Still having problems with the pureed chicken, but when a couple more teeth come in, I'll just make my own chicken nuggets and give that to him instead. I have his 9 month visit on Monday the 15th and thank goodness no shots are involved. I'm still paying on his other visits and not having shots again til he's a year I may finally catch up. He's over 20 pounds now and over 30 inches tall. He's going to be a big boy...just like his daddy. The young man who I go to synagogue with tells me he believes Mo will be at LEAST 6'3....I agree! I would LOVE to have a tall boy. I want him to be about 6'5, but we'll see. :goodvibes I have a few pictures to share, but someone is fussy, so let me give him a bottle. Hope you all are well. I really enjoy reading your stories. :flower3:
Becky - Aww, I am sure that Vaylie forgave you the
second you scooped her up and gave her some kisses. Alexander
is doing fine. He barely has a mark now from his fall.
It must have been something in the air!! I have a
bad Sephora addiction. I actually bought some new
Philosophy face regime last week i need to return.
I decided I really didn't NEED that face wash and
acne stuff for $80. I found a Biore that seems
to be doing well. I have very oily and acne
skin as well. Let me know how the Murad works.
Bethany - Just thinkof the amazing room upgrade
next year!!!
Amie - Congrats on your new arrival. Pictures please
when you have a moment!!
Nicole - Congrats on the court case!! Can't wait
to hear if you won. I am sooo jealous, not only about
your WDW trip but also Texas Roadhouse! We love them
and don't have any in South Florida. I love the rolls,
chicken finger app and mashed potatoes!!!
Denise - Can't believe he is already 9 months old!!
We usually order Alexander his own meals now. Depends on
where we are!! He will eat an entire kiddie pasta so we usually
get that!!
****************************************************
I got the BEST email today.
Hi, I just wanted to let you know that my sister adopted Lobo from the animal shelter before they could euthanize him. she lives on a farm in Loxahatchee but keeps Lobo in the house with her. He did get a little aggressive the first day, but now he is great! She brings him with her in her truck and he loves it. They really have bonded nicely. My sis also has other dogs and today Lobo was running and playing with her other 3 year old dog. I thought you would want to know that he is doing great. If you want to contact my sis just to check on him, her number is SSS-SSS-SSSS. Her name is SSSSSS. Please respond and let me know that you did read this. I know it must have been really tough for you. XMDS
I have emailed back and forth with Lobo's new mommy and will go up to see him and where he is living later this week. I still have all his toys, food, snacks and crates so I am so happy to be able to give them to him, see that he is happy and have a better picture in my mind of the last time i see him then being pulled away from me at the shelter. I can't tell you how happy this makes me. I kept checking the website for the shelter and never saw him on there. I kept telling myself that it was because the site updates so often and i missed it. I knew in my heart that wasn't the case but i had to tell myself that. It sounds like he wasn't going to be put up for adoption. I am so happy I have been crying on and off all day!!
On another note .... DH and I had a mental breakdown yesterday and bought a Wii, Wii Fit, Mario Kart, a extra remote and wheel along with two other games. Seriously spent over $600 yesterday ... I love it though. I am sooo sore today from the games. We love the bowling and DH got Tiger Woods Golf 09 that's pretty cool. I haven't hooked up the Wii Fit yet but probably tomorrow!!!
Denise- we're going to be having birthday parties in 3 months, isn't that CRAZY?!?!? It seems like just yesterday we were talking about eating enough turkey to cause ourselves to go into labor, lol.
I think Ellery is going to be tall too, like her dad and all of the giant people on that side of the family. (I say that because I'm 5'3 and feel so short around all of them) and she already weighs 25 lbs.
I'm getting so tired. Did I tell you guys that Ellery is crawling lightning fast now and pulling up on everything and disaster seems imminent at all times? It's like her head is a magnet for all wooden furniture. I keep trying to baby proof everything. I wish I could just take all of the furniture out and replace it with pool floats or something. But she would probably figure out a way to get hurt on that too.
Oh and three teeth now. The two on the top have started to come through over the weekend. With Ellery for some reason everything always happens at once. We went and had her first professional pictures taken on Saturday, I should be able to pick them up next week. I think it went pretty well, but she had gotten tired and hungry so the session didn't last so long. By the time they put this big pink tutu on her she was done. But I got a couple of good shots and I'll just have to try again in a couple of months.
Okay, totally OT, but Yikes! I'm having one of those "why do we live downtown again?!" moments (shhh...don't tell my MIL)....
A huge chunk of our neighborhood is closed off by police and from everything I can find out from the neighborhood newsgroup, it sounds like they are searching for a man and two women who are suspects in an attempted murder case! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: They've got a description that they've given to neighbors who live closer to the action (2 blocks from my house), there's a police helicopter circling the area, and they aren't letting anyone drive into the closed off areas. If you try to drive out, they search your car. Apparently the man they are looking for is considered armed and dangerous. From what I can gather, there was a high speed chase through our neighborhood (I heard it go past our house) and they crashed into the new library that opened just a month ago. :headache: The police caught one man, but the other 3 people in the car got away and they are still looking for them.
YIKES!!!!! :eek: :scared1: :scared:
okay, I really do like where we live, and this is the first time this has happened since I've lived here, so it's not like it's a common thing and I can't blame it on the neighborhood. But it is freaky. I've got the doors and windows locked and I'm totally jumping at any unusual noises. :scared:
Update just minutes later:
Just found out that it's all over, they caught the 3 suspects. Thank goodness! Now I get to look for it on the news tonight...hooray for our police officers!!
Yikes Bethany - I am glad they caught everyone. I always wonder when we hear helicopters going over!!
Mickey Fliers- Congrats on your little girl! Lila is an adorable name- it was on my list when we were naming Vaylie. (Sort of OT, but isn't it funny when you name your kid and then you look at them and can't imagine them with any other name?).
Nicole- the state Supreme Court?! :woohoo: That is AMAZING!! And you'll be in WDW the same time as my SIL, BIL and nephew!!! If you see a white/grey peg perego stroller with an adorable chubby-cheeked blond toddler named Landon- that's him! :rotfl: And I think Nicole (my SIL) is going to put her DIS name on stuff- she's Chipper10. I'm SO jealous of you guys. :sick: I'm turning green. :laughing: ANd we have Texas Roadhouse here, too- the rolls and cinnamon butter are wonderful! (I'm not doing so hot on my diet. I continued to stress eat after Vaylie fell.... I need to get back with it).
Meredith- glad things are ok. ;) And the twins had meatloaf! :yay: Maybe they won't be picky like my girl. She never used to be picky. Just since she could start eating on her own. :sad2:
Michelle- Will is going to be so cute as a pirate.
Denise- I'm glad school is going well for you. DH went back this year too, and it's going great (I was worried that things were going to be too hectic, but it hasn't been bad).
DMIckey- I love the Murad stuff so far- my face already looks better. I was ready to buy the Philosophy, had both in hand and asked two different sales people which one was better and they both suggested the Murad. And the little starter set is only $35. Of course, the big ones are much pricier... :headache: I was using biore too, and it just doesn't seem to be working for me anymore... Ugh- we'll see. And that is GREAT news about Lobo!!!
Ash- I can't believe how big Ellery is!!! Vaylie is only 21 lbs (she's pretty petite). And the crawling is nothing compared to the walking and running... Oh, boy.
Bethany- WHEW! That would be scary. Around here we have primarily domestic calls and meth labs. :surfweb: Eh.
Becky - Which Murad is it that you got? Maybe I'll get that when I return the other. I like the Biore, it's the icy one but it is really drying my skin out and it burns my eyes in the shower no matter how much I rinse!!! :-) Does the murad have a wash and moisturizer? I really struggle with finding a good moisturizer.
Thanks for the warm welcome!!
Ash - Seriously, it has been a long time. I have been MIA for a bit. No drama for me.
So sorry to hear about all the babes falling. Those are some scary moments! My DS (5) hit his face on the train table (trying to break the world record in bean bag jumping :rolleyes: ) and it was terrible. After the intial swelling went away he has been left with a nasty little hematoma on this cheek. Poor baby!
