The New Lizard Lounge

Morning everyone,

I'm here with shameless, proud mom (and wife) plug. If anyone is interested, you can check out this link, USFSA. It's DS's ice theatre team! If you check out the photos, you'll see his team picture and a picture of his ice dancing coaches. DH is on the gold medal Imagica team. It's pretty cool seeing an article about them.

Have a good day everyone and Minniesota, stop pushing summer away!! It finally just arrived for us New Englanders. I was absolutely shocked to see back to school commercials on tv last night though. Sheesh, it's going too fast.

Tammi

Congratulations to your DS, Tammi! What an accomplishment! :cool1:

Tammi - Cool! You have every right to be proud! And as for rushing summer, I'll help you put the brakes on. I always tell my kids the summer starts on the 4th of July (and here in MN that can sometimes be true!) and goes until we can no longer wear shorts. They usually roll their eyes at me. The other day my DS11 said "I don't really need a funny mom, I need a problem-solver mom!" I guess he didn't like me laughing and making jokes about a situation he perceived as the end of the world. Oh the road we travel...

I think I found a diaper I can put on my sweet little princess: at night. She usually fights me but still needs it occasionally at night. She'll have NOTHING to do with the Huggie princess pullups or the Dora pull ups and I just can't find the Huggie convertables that have Pooh anymore. I was using Huggie Pooh diapers but she always wants to use the potty 20 times after getting her PJ's on. So last night I bought boy Pampers pull ups with Spider Man and Hulk. She LOVES those. :rotfl2: "Emma's diapies!" She's a hoot!

Well I'm afraid she might like the Hulk/Spidie diapers too much. She's on a potty strike. I don't know what happened-she just started peeing her pants and refuses to use the potty anymore. It is so strange as we never pushed her-she insisted she didn't want diapers anymore. I even brought her to the doctor yesterday to be sure she didn't have a UTI but she's fine. I'm hoping she'll grow tired of Hulk diapers before October.

Kris-nice to see you around again. Best of luck with your house!

Tammi-cograts to DS! Have you seen the SW $49 fare again good through 9/29?

Frances999-welcome to the lounge.

On a sadder note...they are moving my Mom to a nursing home today. She's just not cooperating with physical therapy so her insurance refuses to pay for the rehab. She's going to a nursing home that does do PT so hopefully she'll come around. She'll still be over 60 miles from me but closer to most of my siblings.

Big wave to everyone.

Hey everybody; seems like forever since I've had time to relax in the lounge! It's been a crazy summer so far - lots of houseguests, our kamikaze month of birthdays, and a very busy time at work as well. In any case it's good to be back.

WELCOME to sleeplessdoc and Frances999, and welcome back to storybookmum. Frances999, when will you be at the Poly CL? We will be there July 31-Aug 2. I agree with you about Jeffrey - he is definitely one of the best, and a sweetheart to boot. If you get a chance to meet him while you are at the Poly, do so.

lovesdumbo, sending prayers and PD that your mom will continue with her recovery. Maybe she's just tired of the PT and being sick and everything. Hopefully a change of place, and a change of pace, will give her renewed determination.

minniesota and Tammi I hear you about the fast-fading summer - the stores would have you believe it's all over! I hate the way they push you to move to the next season without having time to live in the moment and savor the summer.

Leaving out some of the delish cannoli we had with dinner, plenty of Kona coffee and some assorted cordials. Enjoy!

Sorry I didn't see this post before.. After trying and I am sure making a royal pest out of myself.... ( I am sure) Last night about 11pm. I had a great CM. he saw I was arriving quite late and suggessted dropping the first night Providing I didn't mind moving, and just maybe that would give us some luck??

And he was correct, No availability at Yacht Club for Thursday but yes for Friday and Saturday!!!!!!

So Thursday I am staying DVC I will get up with the boys and head over to the Yacht Check in and be in the Lounge for breakfast with the rest of my family!!! I have never stayed there and am hopeful it will be a great new experience!!!

Tammy thats great about your son. Where does he practice? Kasabuski?

Twinmom, I'm glad it all worked out for you. We typically fly in late the night before our vacation too. Sometimes we go right to the Disney resort, but other times we've stayed right in the airport area, gotten a good nights sleep and a fresh start in the morning. My son teaches at a learn to skate program at Kasabuski (that's where he got started), but now he trains in Boston.

I ran into K-Mart yesterday and all the summer stuff is being put on clearance. They were cleaning off all the shelves getting ready for backpacks and other supplies. Yuck. I was kind of surprised to see their new furniture line. I'm on the lookout for oldest DD who goes back to school next month. She's out of the dorm room and living in an apartment with 3 other girls this year. That means I need to set her up with a bedroom and a few other things. I saw this cute futon, but it's not like the old style where the entire back of it folds down for a full size bed. This one, only the "arms" of it folded down and made a twin bed. Pretty lightweight and perfect I think for her situation. I'm going to take her by there today to have a look at it.

Hope everyone is having a good week,
Tammi

lovesdumbo, I’m sorry to hear that your mom isn’t cooperating with the physical therapy. I’m sure she must be “sick and tired of being sick and tired” as my mom puts it. As Donna said, hopefully a change of scenery will give her renewed strength. for you and your family.

Elisabeth, I think you hit the nail on the head with your statement. I've had a MIL go through multiple rehab stays and my dad has been in a nursing home/rehab now for a number of weeks. I really do think people recuperate so much better when they are home, but sometimes that's just not feasible. Not sure where your mom is LovesDumbo, but I'm in Saugus. If there's anything I can do, just let me know.

Hi, all! Just checking in to get my "fix."

Welcome, Frances! This is a great place and I know you'll love it.

Tammi: What a great article! I can see why you're so proud.

Lovesdumbo: I'll continue to keep your mom in my thoughts and prayers. I know how tough it is in that situation.

Minniesota: October will be here before we know it, right? ;)
For me it's 78 days 22 hrs. 25 mins. 45 secs. and counting. . .

Hope everyone else is doing well! Morning (noon and night) sickness has finally arrived, but I'm trying to keep positive. I just KNOW it will be long gone by October. :goodvibes

Since I'm feeling yucky, I'll skip the lounge treats today and head right to my wonderfully comfortable room for a nice long nap. . . :rotfl:

Bye for now!

Tammi-thanks so much for the kind offer. My Mom is in Westboro and I'm in Cohasset. Unfortunately you really can't get anywhere from Cohasset. I'm at least 20 minutes (no traffic) off Rte 3. Its about 50 miles to Westboro via the Pike but I really hate the Pike so I go 95 to 495 which makes it over 60 long miles. My Mom lives in Mefield but my oldest sister lives in Hopkington and I've got a sister in Mendon, sister & brother in Medway and brother in Boston. So she's not too far from everyone else. I'm really hopefull that this change of scenery will do her some good-a bit of a wake up call. She thought if she misbehaved (screaming, throwing the bedpan, trying to call 911....) they'd send her home but we really can't take care of her-she's completely bedridden-and she really needs to be somewhere where the PT pros can get her back on her feet.

Thanks again for thinking of me. :grouphug:

Hey everyone, I'm back. Thankyou so much for all the prayers -- it meant a lot to me this morning when I arrived in the office and checked the boards. (I don't have access to the internet at my parents which is where I've been for the last 10 days) I went up for the surgery and I 'm so gld I did as it turns out he has cancer. They're not sure where it came from, stomach or colon, and they can't do tests until he heals from the surgery (8 inch injcision on his tummy). They removed two tumors and unfortunately there were several seed tumors that they couldn't take so he will have to undergo chemo. My dad is very positive that he is going to do it so I'm probably going to be doig a lot of flying. Then, yesterday, just before I left I got the unbelievable news that my mother may also have colon cancer. I've never cried so much on a plane in my life but I couldn't stop. I fought really hard to keep myself undercontrol while I was there but then I just lost it on the plane. (The two hour delay didn't help). Anyway, all I have to look forward to is the September trip to WDW. Incidently, while I was home my dad (who was released only 5 days after the surgery) was watching a show about WDW and the creation of SSE and some of the others, and he said when he finishes chemo he wants to go to WDW with us. That would be a wonderful memory. Hopefully we'll see some of you there.

MinnieSummer, I know you have a long road ahead for your family. Your dad sounds like he has an excellent attitude and that's half the battle. My mom had breast cancer which metasasized to the lungs and brain. During when of her remission times, we spent a week with them at Fort Wilderness. I have some wonderful memories of that time. It was pretty special. You'll remain in my thoughts and I hope for the best with your mom and dad  .

MinnieSummer, I am so very sorry to hear about your father’s cancer diagnosis and your mom’s possible diagnosis as well. Cancer is such a terrible thing. It sounds like your dad has a wonderful attitude and is ready to fight this beast off! My prayers are with you. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you in any way.

Hello everyone-it has been awhile again--we are so busy this summer. DH's dad is doing good with his chemotherapy and radiation. He is in good spirits.
MinnieSummer-sorry to hear about your dad--my prayers are with you.
Hope everyone else is good--I forgot the bad news---NOT!! Delta cancelled out flight out Nov 27th so we are going to have to add another day!!!!! :cool1: Can't wait! Only 133 more days. Have a great weekend everyone! :grouphug:

I'm trying to remain positive during this time and the only thing keeping a smile on my face is the trip we have planned in September to AKL for my daughters birthday. However, she wants to have a party there for all her friends at school. Obviously, we can't take them with us soooo I had this idea and want to fly it by all of you to see if you think I'm totally crazy. We live only 2 1/2 hours from WDW and many of her classmates go up several times a year. I thought that I could e-mail the parents and just say something like: We will be in WDW on such and such date to celebrate Summer's birthday. If you plan to be there on that date and would like for your child to attend a little party for her, please let me know so I can include him/her in the reservation.

Does anyone think this would be rude? I am obviously not including the parents but just the children and am not going to offer to pick up hotel fare. I just can't decide if this is a bad idea or not. Anyone have an opinion?

MinnieSummer, this one is tricky. I admit that it would be awkward to send out or even receive an e-mail like that. Honestly, I would have a birthday party for DD and her friends before the trip and just leave it at that. You can make it a WDW theme or something.

Tammi

MinnieSummer-I want to let you know that you and your family are in my prayers! And I feel the need to appologize for complaining about the 60 mile trip to visit my Mom. I know you would LOVE to be able to just drive to see your parents. I visited my Mom at the nursing home this weekend. She looked better than she has since before all this began in early April. She had a hair cut and her skin tone looked really great. She still wants to go home and was complaining that she hadn't had as much physical therapy as promised. So I'm hopeful that she'll get her fighting spirit back and get back on her feet. It is so difficult to see her like this. She really does have that spirit or she wouldn't have gotten through the past 4 months. When I was 6 my Dad died of a heart attack at age 42. She was left with 6 kids and a blind father in law at age 39. Now that I'm 44 I just can't imagine how she did it.

As for the party. I don't think I'd invite her friends to Disney. I would do a Disney themed party when you get home. Something fun to look forward to after your trip.

You will remain in my prayers.

Lovesdumbo: no need to apologize. I realize that we all have our own situation. I actually took it as an affirmation that we all wish our parents lived closer and it somehow comforted me to know that I'm not the only one facing these issues. At least when I get there I get to stay for several days at a time.

I have been giving out a piece of advice to teenagers lately. (The ones I talked to in the airport waiting for my delayed plane, the ones I've seen in my neighborhood etc.) DON'T MOVE FAR AWAY FROM YOUR FAMILY WHEN YOU MOVE OUT ON YOUR OWN. Stay within an hours drive if at all possible. It may not seem like such a big deal when you and your parents are young and healthy but in another 10 or 20 years it will become a major focus in your life.

I guess the idea of a party at WDW is a wash. I knew it seemed wrong but it also seemed like the easy way out. I really can't plan anything in advance -- even this trip to WDW for her birthday although my DH will take her even if I'm not there -- as I don't really know when I'm going to have to fly back up. I'm going up on the 30th of July through the 13th of August as that was our planned vacation, after that who knows. So planning a party is iffy at best. I know DD will understand but I feel like I'm neglecting her lately anyway.

Well, thanks for all the prayers and pixie dust. I keep all of you in mine as well. And it somehow helps to have other Disney people who understand both parts of me. Thanks.

MinnieSummer: Sorry to hear about your parents. I agree with you completely about staying as close as you can to your parents. It's so much more important than we realize.

Sfbank: Glad to hear your dad is doing well. Hope the news continues to be be positive.

Hugs to everyone else! Just wanted to stop in and get my fix this week. I've been having awful morning sickness the last week or so, and my Disney trip is one of the only things keeping me upbeat.

Hugs to all!!
