The New Lizard Lounge

Hey nice new digs. Haven't been around much. One question though....where's BT?

Hope everyone's having a good day!

Good Morning LL,

I have a dilemma. I hope that some of you can help me. I will be at the World for 2 nights at the end of Nov. with my 3 1/2 year old son and my 70 year old mother. We are staying for a short while before going on a Reunion Cruise with our family. I currently have ressies at the Cont. 14th Floor. As you have probably read, it is currently the "Concierge of the Day" to get a bashing! I am considering changing our ressies to the GF. We will spend most of our time at the MK. I've stayed at the Poly CL and I don't think it will be a good fit for this visit.

What do you currently think of the RPC? I won't need help from the CMs. I am also considering just booking a standard room and using room service. We used it earlier this month and it was wonderful. Is RPC so much better that I should stay in the main building?

I appreciate your time and comments,

Lori

Lori,

We stayed at the GF in October in a suite and had access to the RPC; my DH and I stayed in the main building a couple of weeks ago and used the RPC lounge then as well. We absolutely loved it and thought it was perfect for our needs. In October, we were with our 2 kids, my 75-year-old parents and my sister and niece. We used the lounge every morning because we are a family who eats cereal, toast, bagels, fresh fruit, yogurt, etc. for breakfast. We did not use the lounge in the afternoon except on ourr arrival day and we had scones, cookies, sodas, etc. The evening offerings were plentiful and varied and we loved the desserts/cordials. My kids could hardly wait for the chocolate covered strawberries! After our stay in December, DH said. "Why stay anywhere else?" We really loved the atmosphere and understated elegance of the RPC. But honestly, I'd be happy to be in any room at the GF!
DS and I will be back there in Feb. but in a garden view room (great AP discount!) and we will probably use room service and Gasparilla Grill. Even eating at poolside is great at the Grand! Good luck with your decision - let us know!

Lori, I haven't seen too much about DIS'ers blasting the CR cl, but I have seen many posts about the rooms looking old and worn. I have to say, that I'm not all that impressed by their themeing. The GF, on the other hand, is my favorite. If staying at RPC doesn't blow your budget, then I would definitely recommend it. The lounge is beautiful and if you can get a room that's within sight distance, maybe you and your mom would feel comfortable sitting out there with a baby monitor while your DS sleeps or naps.

Good luck with your decision.

Tammi>> I just wanted to say that I LOVE your new picture!

Have a great day, LL's!

Thanks for the help.

Does Sugar Loaf offer a hot appetizer in the evenings? I understand that it doesn't have alcohol and desserts.

I just love the GF and I thought I wanted to branch out next Dec. but I am quickly changing my mind.

Debbie Thanks. My oldest DD snapped this picture as we were walking back to they YC from Epcot. Of course my first reaction was to ask, "why didn't anyone tell me my butt was that big" :teeth: .

Lori Sugar Loaf offers basically the same exact thing as RPC, with the exception of the wine and late night dessert & cordials. There servings ended around 7 or 8pm if I remember correctly. The main differences between the two, are your choice of view is very limited in the lodge. You'll have marina or garden and there are only a few rooms that you can actually see the fireworks from if you lean out over your balcony. The lounge is located right on the main floor of the lodge and I thought the seating was pretty limited. It felt more like a bed and breakfast to me. Very small, cozy and homey. Out of the two, I prefer the RPC because of the openess of the lounge and being able to sit there in the evenings and listen to the orchestra.

I am now under 2 weeks to experiencing concierge service on the Disney Magic. Talk about being treated like royalty. I can't wait. Just DH and myself.

Merry Christmas to all the LL's. Hope Santa is good to everyone.

Gosh, I've been missing you guys; I was out of commission for a while with a dental infection that spread to the underlying bone. Thank goodness I had most of my holiday stuff done before the WDW trip. Still haven't written a trip report but I don't feel like I'm back yet anyways! Wanted to stop by and wish everyone a warm and fuzzy Christmas, healthy and happy New Year and lots of holiday hugs :grouphug: all around. And to those of you whose holidays have come and gone, hope they were wonderful.

Hello, LL's! I hope you all have wonderful Christmases!

Tammi, Thanks for the info. I changed our ressies from Cont. 14th Floor to Sugar Loaf and added a day . There were several factors in my decision. My mother didn't want to stay so high up at the Cont. My son loves the pools at the GF and I wanted to be located closer to the pools. I saw where you mentioned a service elevator in the main building. I got a 15% AAA discount, so we added another day. It's still early and I'll probably upgrade to RPC. :cloud9: The CM said that the RPC never has AAA discounts. Is that true?

I would love to sit and listen to the orchestra. My son made that impossible earlier this month. I don't see that it will be much better when he's 3. One day, my husband and I, will be able to take romantic getaways. You especially understand what it is like with 3 children. :earseek:

Have a great cruise. Your picture is great. I took a picture of my husband and daughter hand in hand at MGM. It is precious.

Merry Christmas LL,

Lori

Merry Christmas to you all! Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Holiday Season!

A question about BC CL-when we stayed at the YC they mailed a special elevator key for us to use to check in upstairs when we got there. Is it the same at the BC or do concierge guests check in at the front desk like at the BWI?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
I hope everyone has a safe and blessed christmas.

From all of us here in the snowbound state of MI (and OH),

Merry Christmas!!!

and

Happy New Year. . .
just in case I don't get back around until then!

Given the chill in Disney right now, I'm sorta' glad we're not there. . .then again, the chill beats heck out of all this SNOW!

Lori,

Yes, I completely understand with having 3 kids. I got a great appreciation for the resort when my DD was little. We've been going to the GF since she was 8 months old and I've spent lots of time around the pool and on the balcony while she napped. Now mine are 19, 14 & 8 and we've reinstated those "mom & dad" trips.

The main building does have a service elevator that exits out right next to Gasparilla's. If you are in one of the Magic Kingdom view rooms (4x01-4x09), then this is really convenient. Especially if you feel uncomfortable walking through the main lobby with your bathing suits on.

I know that discounts are rare, but we got a great deal last January. Have you ever used Dreams Unlimited? You might want to consider switching your reservation to them. They were great in keeping an eye out for any discounts that came along.

Tess, the good thing about the snow is that Santa's sleigh won't get stuck on the roof! *Been told this so many years I actually believe it now! LOL*

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Debbie

Well,

DH's Grandpa died and he has to go to Detroit for the funeral. We managed to get a decent air fare but he has to fly out on Christmas night :sad1:

I have no idea what to do about our AKL res.

He flys out of Orlando Sat. night and back into Orlando Tues. night.

They don't have room available to extend 3 more nights.

What a mess. I want to try and give the kids a normal Christmas.

Any advice??

We can go somewhere else after we check out of AKL on Sunday but the last night to check in anywhere using the FL. Res rate is 12/25

Merry Christmas To All !

We are leaving for beautiful Rhinelander, Wisconsin in about 12 hours. We will be with our one daughter, her husband and our two grandpuppies

I have my Nanook of the north coat (as my daughter refers to it) ;) all our winter sweaters and flannel pj's are packed. I think we are all set to go. With this storm coming in on the MidWest we hope we will be spending Christmas with our family and not visiting some airport as long term guests. LOL

Everyone stay safe and healthy. Remember to wear your seat belts! :grouphug:

Angel

Oh Floridafam, I am so sorry! We were both posting at the same time. I did not mean to be joyful while you were sharing your grief. Please accept my condolences for your DH, you and your family. Christmas is such a hard time of year to loose someone you love.

As far as your AKL trip. Floridafam are you physically feeling up to doing the trip alone? Can you move up your Christmas celebration to Christmas Eve while your DH would be there? If I remember correctly you have a sunrise safari planned for Christmas morning. Maybe you all can still go on that and enjoy the day before you put DH on a plane. Have you talked to the concierge staff to see if there is anything they can do to extend your trip due to the circumstances? Perhaps upgrade you to a suite that will be available for the additional 3 days. Or make arrangements that you transfer to a different resort honoring the Fl. Resident rate.

I would call and speak with Juanita or Andrea. Explain what has happened and mention you are 6 months pregnant. I cannot image that there isn’t something they can do to make everything work. I am keeping you and your family in my prayers. Let me know how everything turns out.

floridafam, I am so sorry about your loss. My prayers are with your family. I also think that calling the concierge couldn't hurt. Perhaps there is something they can do.

Thank you, everyone.

I think I am about to call and cancel our reservation. Things just aren't "right" since we found out about his Grandfather.

He has to go out and buy a suit, we had to cancel our dinner reservations on Christmas and it just feels like it wouldn't be right to go and have him fly out on Christmas night.

I just don't know what to do. Something just doesn't feel right and I think we should cancel.
