Hello,

I'm new here, a Poly lover who is taking the plunge this August 8 to the Grand Floridian. I finally convinced my kids and DH to try it out, which was not easy because they're creatures of habit and really like the Poly.

But after three years in a row at the Poly, they agreed to give in to me just once. I'm so excited.

I've been reading this thread and learning lots. Thanks for all your insightful help!

Welcome! We have the exact opposite situation in my family. After going to the GF for our stays, I've been begged to book the Poly! I think you'll love the GF -- it's a really fun, light, pretty place to stay. Enjoy!:)

Well, after all, concierge is not available either at SL or RPC during the dates that we'll be there during spring break.:sad1: i think I would like to stay at Boca Chica in that case. Should I request it now or should I wait until I'm there at check in?
thanks:goodvibes

I always make my requests known as soon as possible :)

I am serious!!!!
Late at night walks to the grill can be WAY CREEPY with that sound!!! It makes me think of the horror films as a teen :rotfl2:

I told Dave its late night room service all the way baby... I am not letting no creepy wolf eat me at midnight :lmao:

Too funny :rotfl2:

Welcome!
I hope you enjoy the GF!!!!
Its by far my favorite resort... that and YC but the GF is #1 for me.
While your there, make sure to stop by the Basin White and pick up a bath bomb or 2 or 3... to soak your day away with!!!

I know this has probably been asked a thousand times but to those of you who have stayed at GF a few times what GV room should I request. I cant change our room type because it is sold out so I am stuck with GV. I know it will be fantastic regaurdless but any info would be great. I was thinking the Boca Chica building would have good pool views or is this not a good request??

Please don't feel like you are "stuck" with a garden view. All the rooms and views are lovely at the GF :)
Boca Chica is centrally located for sure. Big Pine Key is a closer to the main building and the feature pool than Boca Chica. Hope this helps , they are both great buildings :thumbsup2

The buses that service the Grand Floridian are not necessarily on a strict route. Whenever a bus returns through the Magic Kingdom toll plaza, it is electronically routed to its next destination depending on the need at the time. So if the Grand is running behind, a bus can be sent over to pick up guests.

Buses at the Grand Floridian tend to come in increments of 15-20 minutes. They have someone monitoring the buses in the mornings to make sure that they do come within this time frame.

I would say take Disney transportation because the Grand is linked to MK and Epcot by monorail, so you will only have to venture on the bus for Studios, DTD, and AK.

I never have a problem with GF transpo:) ...except when the monorail breaks...which is does often lately.:rotfl2:

AND it is GREAT that they do have somebody out there monitoring the buses...that really helps. :thumbsup2

For all our stays any transpo issues have been far and few between.....now at the Epcot resorts...omg...THAT is another issue!!!! AWFUL!

Just back - I hate to report anything negative on the GF but we definitely had room issues.

First room we were given in Sago Cay (dreaded convention center dumpster view) had soaking wet carpeting and a big fan blowing trying to dry it. My dd has asthma and the smell would have been too much for her, plus the carpet wasn't damp it was soaking!!!!! So we call down to the front desk and they transfer us to another room down the hall (same dreary view) and guess what - that carpet is wet too! Not as soaking, but definitely not damp, it was wet. DH called down to the front desk and was really agitated. Now we have had everything move to a 2nd room that we can't use either. Plus when bell services left the luggage in the first room, (even though we asked them to put it in the hall while we got the room situation straightened out) one of the pieces of luggage got all wet. That is how wet the carpet was!

They finally transfer us to yet another room. This time in Big Pine Key, room 9124. The best thing I can say about that room, which we kept, was that the carpet was dry. It was first floor room with a view of not only the pool building, but a big pipe sticking out of the ground (I'm guessing gas or water pipe) dead center in front of the patio! After all the years I've told everyone that there wasn't a bad view at the GF I had to eat my words.

The bathroom too had mold/dirty grout issues but we sucked it up.

The thing that bothered me the most was that when DH called about the second room not being acceptable (I actually was feeling nauseous and getting a headache just smelling the carpet cleaning smell) the front desk manager said "Well, I see you are on the 7/4 special", as if that made it okay to give us a room that wasn't ready for guest.

The funny thing is that this was our 7th visit to the GF in 5 1/2 years so we have stayed many times without any specials or great incentives.

I still love the GF grounds, and the kids had a ball in the pool. We had breakfast at 1900 Park Fare, dinner at GF Cafe (surprisingly good) and the girls, my mil and myself had afternoon tea at the GF tearoom.

I felt bad because we had really been talking up the GF to my in-laws. They've stayed with us at YC twice before and really liked it much better. I think the room situation really put a sour taste in everyone's mouth this time.

We still had a great vacation, but I really sat out on the patio (which I love to do). We have a reservation for this summer at GF SL but I am seriously considering switching to Poly LVC instead.

We didn't ask for any compensation , just wanted a nice room. The manager did take $150 off our bill for inconvenience and dry cleaning for the clothes that got damp when the luggage was wet.

How I missed my Sago Cay and Conch Key marina views. The cm checking us in told us we DID have the marina side of Sago Cay when we checked in. That just made us doubly disappointed when we saw the room.

On the good side most cms were very friendly, mousekeeping was good, and Gasparilla's is still one of our favorite cs restaurants!

Aaaahhh I am a CL junkie. I love it. But no CL rooms were available for the 4/3 deal. My favorite so far has been AKL (Don in IPO) is just sooo awesome and the sunrise safari is beyond words amazing. BWI was good too. I hated WL the worst CL experience overall. So I will be missing my pampering but no better place to rough it than GF right.:rotfl: My husband booked the room and now every other room type is sold out. Oh well at least I am going to Disney and trying out a fantastic new place!!!:goodvibes

GF GAL:)

I couldnt have said this better. We have stayed at BC, YC, BWI and Dolphin. The worst transportation in all of Disney IMO. No way should all those resorts share one bus. We always take a cab or have a car when staying at Epcot resorts.

That is to bad. I cant believe they said that to you about the 7 for 4 deal.
I would not have been as nice as you.

Robyn...oh that is TERRIBLE!!!!! wow...sorry you had all those issues...what is WITH that wet carpet?!!?!?!? WHY?!?!? OK..so maybe they had to wash it...but duh...they should KNOW it takes a long while for carpet to dry.

That is shame about your views too!!! And..of course it's when you had talked the place up. I cannot tell you how many times that kind of stuff has happened to me when I travel with my parents....I choose the resort..and then it never fails...it sucks.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Last time...San Diego.:rotfl2:

I am shocked they knew and brought up the 7/4 deal....wow. That is tacky IMO. I know what you mean....for YEARS we used to just book rack rate....didn't even know about AAA or AP or any codes....and of course now when there ARE deals out there that we know about we use them....who wouldn't except a WDW newb:rotfl: ....anybody that is a repeat guest knows about the deals.:thumbsup2

OMG>...NOT THE POLY!!! Isn't that a bit drastic?!?!?!?:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I think you should write a letter to the GF. Let them know what a disappointing stay it was....and the 3 room switches...and the wet clothes...and then to be told you booked the 7/4 like you're a second rate guest......

Good luck with your next stay...gf or yc or poly....

DisneyMomx7,

I am so sorry that you didn't enjoy your most recent stay at the GF. I would have been very unhappy as well, especially since you should never be given a room with a soggy carpet and big fans blowing!

We've never stayed on a package before, just room-only reservations. This is my biggest worry -- that they'll put us in some bad place or if we have problems they will bring up the fact that we are on the 4/3 deal.

In other hotels (not at WDW) I have overheard people at the front desk and how they have treated guests staying on a "package" and sometimes it hasn't been so nice. We've definitely been treated well, but I always book with hotels directly.

It looks like we have no choice to get out of our package since the new AP dates have skipped over our trip dates completely.:sad2:

DisneyMomx7, Sorry to hear about the room situation. Did they tell you why the carpet was so wet? I hope the rest of the trip went well. :goodvibes

Channing, you did all THAT?! Holy cow...how do you have time to "mother", ferry kids around, cook, etc?? When I saw you mention earlier that it was "your" site, I just thought you were claiming it as your favorite! I have it bookmarked, BTW...
