An update on the GF pillows...

A CS rep at www.disneyresortcollection.com responded to my inquiry and said the GF pillows are the Magic Gel type. I have a call into a RPC CM to see if that info is consistent with what they know. :confused3 I'll let you know what I find out! Guess DD won't be getting the pillows for Christmas but maybe a nice Valentine's gift!

Missed this before...thanks for the update Minniesota:) Let us know what you find out....sound like a nice Valentine gift too...

We'll be staying at the GF for the first time in April and we have a GV room booked too. There does seem to be a lot of RPC talk here but you're certainly not alone in booking GV! Hopefully, more people who return from their trips will remember "us" and talk about their terrific GV room! :goodvibes

Kat balou Hopefully you girls will come back and share your trips with us!! Looks like you have quite alot that you'll be celebrating...how nice...We love GV views...we're happy ANYWHERE at the GF!!!:)

TravelinGal - just wanted to add my 2 cents .. last year we stayed RPC (our honeymoon) and it was beyond magical!! this year I booked a MKV for 2 nights as an add on and it was breathtaking!! I agree, the Grand is unlike any other and to stay anywhere there is a thrill :cloud9: I agree with Channing, the CM's in RPC are a huge part of what makes that experience so fantastic but all the rooms are beautiful and every CM I have met is incredibly nice.. please join the fun and post away! I was lucky enough to reserve RPC next year for 3 nights at a special discount rate they were offering if you booked while there. to be honest, my husband and I have decided that the Grand has to be a part of every trip now simply because of the service, the atmosphere, and (corny but true) the magic! it doesn't matter what type of room as long as we're there

and (corny but true) the magic! it doesn't matter what type of room as long as we're there

Michelle, this is so true not corny!! At the GF, I feel like I'm in Disney even while not in a park. I love how you can see Wishes from one beach, then Illuminations and the water parade from the other beach. In the early morning, I love to walk to Gaspies and grab breakfast for the family and hear the MK Train preping for the day, or seeing the sunrise over the castle in the early morning.

It truly is MAGICAL. :wizard:

My DH and DS4 have decided we're not staying anywhere else in WDW, my DS4 says "that's our Disney Home".:lovestruc

Michelle So true I couldnt have said it better myself....:)

We are also booked in a GV room for our May trip. We are just so excited to be staying at the GF. Part of me is still in shock that we actually booked the trip and will be staying in the GF. I can't wait to get there and I will definitely come back here and share how much I loved my GV room at the GF.

Less than 1 month to go until our 9 day trip staying at the GF.:cheer2:

The last time we stayed there we were there with our 2 boys, then 15 and 13. We had such a fantastic time that my DH and I promised each other that we would return for our 25th Anniversary. However, we started our own business and when it came along, we were far more concerned with making payroll than vacationing. With those times hopefully always behind us, we are making our trip next month just a few months before our 26th Anniversary but while DH will be celebrating his 52nd birthday.

I booked the trip as soon as the reservations became available for January 2009. The only room that was being offered at that time was the theme park view. And while you might all think that I am insane - I booked the Platinum Package. While it is very pricey, I have booked 4 rounds of gold, 5 tours, Signature Dining each night, two spa treatments, the Illuminations Cruise and dinner at V&A's for DH's Birthday Dinner. Of course after I have worked with our intinerary planner for a few weeks, Disney comes out with the pay for 4 nights and get 3 free promotions along with a $200.00 gift card. When I checked to see if our package would qualify for the promotion, I was told that I would have to downgrade to the Deluxe Dining plan. Rather than spend the time, which I don't have, to figure out what our out of pocket expenses would be if we changed, not to mention I would have felt really bad using the itinerary planner to make all the reservations and then change to another plan, I have just decided to make the best of the situation.

Now that you are completely bored with this post, my questions are as follows;

1. If we use the online check in, what rooms would you suggest requesting for the best theme park view? We are leaning toward the Conch Key building.

2. Since we are doing the Signature Dining each night, we probably won't be doing a large lunch. Does anyone have a room service menu for breakfast if we decide to eat in the room before heading out for the day?

3. I should probably post the next question on the Smoking thread but does anyone know where my husband can enjoy a nice cigar and a glass of Grand Marnier. When we were in Disneyland this past fall, we found that the Napa Rose had a wonderful outdoor patio off of the lounge were we could sit around the fire pit and enjoy a drink. Is there anything like that anywhere on WDW property?

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. I have been dreaming about this trip for forever and I just want it to be as magical as possible.

I can share my experiences to try and answer your questions and I'm sure you'll get lots more info by the end of today :goodvibes

1. we just came back and had a Theme Park view. We were in Sago Key, room 5444 - right under the eves! small balcony but dead on view - incredible!!

2. sorry I didn't take a photo or bring home a room service menu this time because we didn't make use of it. last year we had breakfast in the room and it was scrumptious!!

3. we don't smoke, but my sister does and she was on this last trip. Right outside the Grand Floridian cafe there is a lovely wrap around porch with 5 tables looking out toward the main pool with ashtrays. I observed many people enjoying a cigar or cigarette there. there might be other spots but I passed this one everyday going from Sago to the Main building. There are also a couple of smoking areas by the smaller pool by the beach which is another option.

have fun!!!!

loralie, it will be fun to read your report.:surfweb:

2SillyBirds, that sounds like so much fun. Do you know there's a 25% discount on the Platinum plan through sometime in June? It starts 1/4 which makes it too late for our next trip but I was running numbers for March and May and think we may do it for our short resort stays (we combine "regular" resorts with DVC stays). I read about it on mousesavers. You might be able to just apply that code to your reservation.

As for your questions,

1. Conch Key would be my request as well.
2. Here's a room service (private dining) menu:http://allears.net/menu/menu_gfp.htm
3. In addition to the area that GloryDaz mentioned, there is a smoking area on the marina side of either Conch or Sugar Loaf where my DH has enjoyed a cigar. The smoking areas are marked on the map you'll receive in your welcome packet. That area at the Grand Californian is sooo beautiful, isn't it?

Happy planning!

If someone needs an updated room service menu PM your addy
I will try and print it out and scan it in as I have it in PDF form.

2SillyBirds What a wonderful trip you have planned!!! 9 days at the GF:cloud9: ...Have a great time...:thumbsup2 I would love to hear how you do with the online check in...please let us know...:)

TravelinGal - we've stayed in all room levels at the GF and loved them all, and while the RPC is wonderful, you don't have to stay there to have a great GF trip. The GF is a beautiful resort, and you get that atmosphere no matter what room you stay in!:goodvibes

2SillyBirds - I was hoping someone had mentioned the 25% discount on the Platinum Plan, I see BCV23 beat me to it! ;) I hope you are able to use that for your trip. I missed out on the 4/3 deal, even though we are going in January, due to needing to be back home too soon to make it work, with the start date of January 4. Oh, well!

For your question of which building, I love the location of Conch Key, although I've not stayed in a TPV there. Our only TPV experience was in Boca Chica. I know they have some lovely views in that building, but we got one that did not look at the castle. Mostly trees, unfortunately.

Room service is very good at the GF, I wouldn't hesitate to use that as an option - delicious, and delivered promptly.

Have a wonderful trip, sounds like you have a lot of fun experiences planned! :sunny:

Pillow update...

According to a Housekeeping Manager at the GF (and this came from an RPC CM), the pillows are the Ultra Rest. This seems to confirm what BCV23 thought and I guess I'm more inclined to go with what Housekeeping says. So DD will be getting the Ultra Rest pillows - I may have to order some for myself!

Hope this info helps...

Minniesota Thanks for the pillow update!...We loved the pillows at the GF and I'm going to be ordering them too....:cloud9:

We just returned from a stay at the Grand Floridian. We had one of the few 'not so great' garden views at the resort. We were in Sago Cay. We were overlooking the loading area for the Convention Center. If you looked to the right you could see the edge of the bay. We did get to see/hear the monorail going by, which was neat. I requested a marina view, but we obviously didn't get it. I only reserved a Garden View, so I got what I paid for. I was hoping for something a little nicer, but oh well. We had a nice short walk to the arcade/quick service food, but a pretty good hike to everything else. Sago Cay bldg is never locked at 11pm, but all the others are, which I found odd. When I asked about it, they had no answer.

The room itself was very nice, and comfortable. We had 2 queen beds and the sofabed. The beds are super comfy! The balcony was nice. I also liked how the sink area is separate from the toilet/tub area. There was a flat screen tv, and an ihome ipod/am/fm radio in the room which was used quite often by my son. We had great mousekeeping service. We tipped her daily. The room was always fresh and clean feeling. We also enjoyed the turn down service each evening.

Every single Cast Member that we encountered was wonderful. Very friendly & helpful. Even the guy who steam cleans the 24 hour pool area at 2am was great! We played ping pong a couple nights at 2am. If you cant sleep, its a great way to spend an hour or so.

I think they need to have more laundry facilities, however. Each bldg has 2 washers and 2 dryers. People leave their stuff in the washers/dryers for hours so it makes it impossible for others to get laundry done. I attempted to do laundry on 3 different occasions, finally at 2am I was able to get it done. I know there is nothing the resort can do about these people leaving their items in the machines for so long, but maybe if there were a couple more machines it would make things easier for people.

The arcade room was also pretty sparse. Just a handful of games for the kids. Other resorts we've stayed at had many more. Maybe its a space issue, or maybe they dont want many kids hanging out in there.

We loved the lobby area. The gingerbread house was adorable and there was a constant line of people waiting to buy things. I bought a couple 'shingles' and brought them home for our neighbors. They have live music playing in the lobby, and you can sit and relax. They had a beautiful xmas tree, and a photopass photographer stationed there each evening, from 4:30 until about 8:30.

We got a photo shoot done at the GF. The pictures turned out wonderful. We had Evelyn as our photographer and she did a great job.

We ate at the Grand Floridian Cafe our first night and really enjoyed our meal. The food was quite good. They dont let you substitute anything, however, so we wasted a lot of food.

We had massages at the GF Spa, which we all LOVED!!!! I wish we could have done it more than once. It was expensive, but worth the money. We felt so pampered. If you go to the spa, ask for Josh :)

I loved the pool areas, and all the beach areas. The views are incredible! You can see the castle, monorail, water parade, all the boats, illuminations .. The wedding chapel area is gorgeous.

It was nice having the monorail, and we used it often. There was usually a short wait, but nothing horrible. The only long wait was Saturday night as we were leaving Magic Kingdom. We had to wait about 45 minutes to get on a monorail. There were lots of crying babies, it was not a fun wait. We also used the boat a couple times. Its a much slower ride than the monorail, but lots of fun.

It was a great stay. I dont know if we'd stay there again, but we did enjoy it. We have stayed at the Yacht and Beach Club resorts a few times prior and it's more our 'style'. We love being able to walk places, and the GF is secluded in that way. There are so many options for food/entertainment at the Y&BC. And the pool.. well, nothing can compare to that.

Thanks to all of you who shared experiences and gave advice. It made our stay much more magical.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I did try to get the 25% Platinum Package discount earlier this evening and of course it was not available either. I honestly don't think that any of those offers they put out are for the monorail resorts and if they actually exsist they are probably only for a couple of rooms for the whole resort. They did offer the discount for a standard concierge room at the Boardwalk, just like they did with the 4nights/3free package, which would be a substantial savings. DH and I discussed possibly changing to the Boardwalk, but in the end we just decided that we would leave the reservations alone. He is afraid that I might be disapppointed since I have had my heart set on the GF for the past year. And with having dinner reservations at Citricos, Narcoosees, California Grill and V&A's the transportation could become a huge issue. Most importantly I wouldn't have a view of the castle.

BCV23-Thanks for the link to the private dining menu. I think that with the dinner reservations we have, we will probably do breakfast most days in the room and pretty much skip lunch or have a very light lunch at the different parks. And yes, that area at the Grand Californian is wonderful, we have been there twice and plan to go back again. I don't smoke anymore, but dh does like to have a nice cigar occasionally. Do you think that I should request an upper level room in the Conch Key building for the best view or does it matter?

Thanks again everyone! Have a Merry Christmas!!!

I was able to price the Platinum package sale at the GF for our dates the end of Feb/first of March. As a professional in this field, I can say that they do indeed offer that for the monorail resorts. It is limited on the number of rooms, but it certainly is more than "a couple of rooms".

Our package is the 4 nights/3 free at GF. And I am still finding availability for that sale for any qualifying dates I check.

Hi everyone. I've been enjoying reading all of the positive posts. It makes me look forward to our spring break trip even more!

We will be staying at the Grand in the main building, RPC. There will be my family, my in-laws, and sis-in-law, bro-in-law, and their 2 little ones all together. We will have 3 rooms and a suite. I'm a little confused about the difference between deluxe rooms, regular rooms in concierge (Sago Cay, if I'm not mistaken) and non-concierge rooms. I'm just wondering what to expect in the main building. It makes my dreaming that much more fun:cloud9: .

We are not new to WDW. Stayed at quite a variety of resorts. We've also done concierge at the Poly and Boardwalk, but as far as the Grand Floridian, it's all new.

Thanks for any help and everyone have a Magical Christmas:santa: .
