Thanks, Tink rules.

I like that there are so many more entrees these days. For a few years, that was one complaint my family had about both Narcoossee's and Citricos. Just too few choices. It made it hard for all six of us to find things we liked sometimes. So much better again.:thumbsup2

Now if only Narcoossee's would open for lunch again. We absolutely loved that and did it every trip for years.:sad1:

OK, now I'm really curious. What did you order that was so good your first time at Citricos and so "blah" the next?

And were prices really inflated at Christmas? I know they've started holiday pricing for the buffets and character meals but had not read that had happened for the better restaurants.

I still contend that it is no different at WDW than any local restaurant. Holidays are busier and service might suffer a bit. WDW can't conjure extra servers out of thin air. That's but one more reason to relish going when things aren't quite so busy.:goodvibes

'Ohana and Chef Mickey...uh, no...I don't think so.;)

I think one of GF's real strengths is the quality of their restaurants. No matter where we're staying, we enjoy GF Cafe, Citricos, Narcoossee's and V&A although rarely all of them in one trip.

Two out of four coming up soon though!:thumbsup2

Well, BCV... I just edited the whole thing I was going to say because I;m not going to bother. I should not have to PROVE to you that I had crappy food and service there. I was there, I remember the BAD food and BAD service. You seriously want to discuss what I ate at Citricos 2 years ago? Geeze, maybe I should go hunt for some 2 yr old receipts. Or, I will call the restaurant and ask for my history there or if I can talk to the manager - maybe he remembers me.....or my server.

Oh, I DO wish I could go during value seasons. I can't. I have three kids in school -all special needs kids -that I can't drag out just any old time. So I am stuck paying the inflated room rates and the higher restaurant prices and dealing with the service issues. We usually have a wonderful time no matter what, but this one Citricos experience was BAD & expensive. It was OUR experience and obviously not everybody's. You obviously don't believe me & guess what - I don't care. Go ahead throw tomatoes I can take it.

Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking around for about a month reading this thread and today, I finally made the reservations for our first trip to WDW in October. This thread was a HUGE help on my decision to stay @ the GF. So thank you to everyone for your contribution to this thread!

Its a great source of info about the GF!

No, of course you don't need to prove anything. We're all just here to share and have fun. I'm just curious what dish changed that much?

I remember very well when we had to just go during school breaks. Two special needs kids here as well but it was equally impossible to pull out our eldest. Our school district is just too demanding to pull kids out. Well, our guy with Down Syndrome...we could have done that anytime. But not so for the other two.

But we don't just go value time. Just what fits best. But it is so nice to be able to avoid the crowds. Our favorite time when our sons were very little was the first week after Thanksgiving. Just magical. DS2 and I were able to go at that time in 2007 and it was such a treat to do all the special Christmas things without the crowds.

I do believe you that your meal wasn't up to your expectations and certainly wouldn't throw tomatoes at you or anyone. I just said that I try to lower my expectations a bit at holiday meals. That way I don't stress myself out expecting the same level of service as a normal day. I know there will be more people trying to dine, larger family groups, etc..

I wasn't being critical of you or anyone else. Just had noticed that several of us had been disappointed with a holiday meal. Trust me...I can still picture the server we had that Christmas Eve.

Still don't think the prices are different at the better restaurants during busy times. I know some restaurants have special events. CG has a NYE event that costs maybe $300/person?? But for the most part, the menu prices stay the same at the better restaurants I think.

I know what you mean about Citricos being expensive. It is...any day. But all the signature restaurants are.

I didn't belittle you or laugh at you, Lives. Just shared my opinion.

We were at Narcoossee's (our only time there so far) in August of 2007 and it was delicious and we had a great server .
We have been to Citrico's 3 times: July 2005 (disappointed in the food), August 2007 (great food and service) and March 2008 (awesome food!!!! and a great server!)
Looking forward to returning to both this summer and also reading more reviews :surfweb:

I have always stayed away from Citricos as we love Le Cellier...and the price of a steak WAS a lot less expensive there... Now that the price has been increased at Le Cellier (I will still keep my ressie) and the menu appears to be a bit more appealing at Citricos, this may be a consideration for us. I mean the steak is no longer 10 bucks less... we enjoy Narcoosees and Yachtsman quite a bit, and usually select one of the 2 every other trip to balance out - maybe we could try Citircos.

Does anyone know how to book the boat for the fireworks display? Cost? Phone numbers? I'd love to surprise my family!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I'm a frequent lurker and occasional poster on this thread. I love all of the information and it has been very helpful in trying to make my decision. Currently, I'm in a MK view room at the Poly for June but I'm getting cold feet and thinking of switching to a MK view at the GF. My question is what buildings have MK views (other than RPC) and in your opinion, are those views better than the MK views at the Poly? Thanks for your help.

Hi! Well almost all the buildings will have some rooms with MK views, with the exception of Sugar Loaf. Conch and Sago have the most desired, but people have had luck with nice views of the MK from Big Pine and Boca Chica, too. Honestly, as much as I LOVE the GF over the Poly, in general the Poly MK views are better...they are more direct. But I have always been happy with our GF MK views. We have seen Wishes perfectly & the GF view of the castle is good enough for us when we're in our favorite resort.;)

The Grand 1 is about $400/hr. Plus you have to (or should) tip the captain and first mate.

Call 1 407-WDW-Play.

Enjoy!

You'll have a great time. :) I cannot believe that my comment about Citricos was such cause for SUCH FUSS (and then again NOBODY blew a gasket about the Narcoosees being off  )....my gosh it was 2 yrs ago.:rotfl: :sad2: I am sorry I can't prove it was bad all around & I hope you have a lovely dinner - sounds like lately things have been good there. I just booked Narcoosees for our July stay.:goodvibes

Happy planning!

Can anyone who stayed non-concierge @ GF share their experience? I would hate to spend $400/night only to be disappointed with the service.

Thanks!

Hi, My family and I will be staying at the GF for the first time in a few weeks. I have two little ones, DD3 and DS1 1/2. My question is I am looking for suggestions on which room number or building I should request. I would like something away from the noise and lots of pedestrian traffic so that the kids get a good night sleep and won't be woken up (me included). I booked a GV room so I might be limited unless there is the disney magic of a chance we get upgraded. Thanks for the help!
