I was just wondering does Sugar Loaf offer the Nesquik Chocolate Milk bottles? On the Atrium Club you needed to ask the Cast Members for them, because they did not display them. So if Sugar Loaf has them do you need to ask for them, or are they on display with the items for the guests to take?

Ok....

So.. .is the meat in the lounge SUPPOSED to be Gray??? and what does it taste like???

Do they have fresh Iced tea available also?

& about the people taking off with too much... if you see someone wandering down the hall with a case of soda.... :rolleyes1

The "gray meat":rotfl: ...well it's supposed to have some type of Indian?? (I think maybe Tandoori) flavor and it goes with the mint yogurt sauce. I think it's gray because it's coated with spices....a thick layer. I am not a foodie, but it kind of reminded me of gyros at first w/ the yogurt sauce and I liked it, lol, but it got old fast...the spices are THICK and not as good & tasty as gyros by a long shot but it was that color - although that's usually lamb...not sure what gives. It's a staple on the GF concierge menu.;) As for fresh iced tea....I am not really a tea drinker, but they have these huge glass containers filled w/iced tea. Not sure how fresh it is.

I have never noticed RPC running out of anything so no guilt here about taking a plate of goodies to enjoy after hours. Everybody is really nice and there are no stares at all.....you'd never know it was even an issue except for some fussbudgets on the DIS. :sad2: I usually take a few cans of diet coke a day, too, and DD takes a Sprite. We do ask for bottled water because that's all DD7 drinks and I hate that hotel water. They have Perrier (not my thing) and another brand, but not Zephyrillis. Can't remember what it is though!!

I think they "grey" meat was a gyro someone was describing. I'm just guessing.

So what other "secret" items do they offer if you ask for it? DH love chocolate milk! :) Do they have plastic water bottles stashed somewhere if you ask for it??

I’ve been mostly lurking on this thread for a couple of months, but now that our plans are set, it’s time to really jump in! I have a question that I’d like to ask you all, and hope to get some good feedback.

The query in brief: If you were reading a travel reviews comparing the Flagship Disney resort (GF) to a luxury non-Disney Orlando hotel, would you prefer that the reviews be by the same person, or would it be just as good if done by different writers/reviewers?

The long version: We are from California, and I am the only one in the family who has ever been to WDW (about 20 years ago). We have three daughters (12, 9 and 4) who absolutely love Disneyland, but have never been to any other Disney park. Our plans began when my partner found out about a required work conference at WDW in February. Our youngest daughter’s 5th birthday is during the conference, and we decided to make it a family trip so we could be together for her birthday. We made plans to stay at the GF since it was one of the hotels available for conference attendees, and seems to be generally well regarded. You may be asking at this point…how does a travel review work into all of this? Well, I do occasional freelance travel writing, and decided to pitch the idea of a WDW/GF review to some of the editors I know. I figured that nothing would come of this because Disney reviews are a dime a dozen, and there seems to be more luck in selling reviews of more trendy locales. Surprisingly, one editor contacted me interested in a review. Apparently, they get many letters from people who are concerned that the deluxe Disney resorts are not up to the caliber of the high-end non-Disney resorts, and that Disney is often far more expensive.

After much discussion, they are planning a pair of reviews aimed at the luxury market that will compare the GF with the Ritz-Carlton. Both reviews will be based on ROH rooms. The confounding factor is that we will be at the GF during a busy time (President’s Week), and the editor thinks that back-to-back stays at two different resorts might not be comparable given that the week on either side of President’s week are generally quite light.

So, what do you GF fans think? What would be more helpful to travelers - two reviews written by the same person (at the GF during a holiday week, or reviews done simultaneously at the two resorts by two different people)?

I’d like to keep the identifying information anonymous for myself and the magazine, as it is important in travel writing to be treated as any other guest. Once the trip is finished, I will happily divulge more information…and of course plug the article!

wow....in all our stays we've never seen chocolate milk, but I never thought to ask. At Gaspies they have Nesquick....ICK! DH got SOOOO SICK on bad Nesquick during our SL stay as a matter of fact. He bought it at the MS Bakery as we were leaving the park at closing time.....woke up at 4 am with the most hideous case of food poisoning:sick: .... I know I know it may not be the Nesquick blah blah...but DH (known him for 22 years has had stomach flu ONCE) and he thought it tasted funky, but dummy him drank it....the choco covered the funk. I think when you are that sick you do have an idea of what is coming up and out. :headache: He was SUPER SUPER SICK so we do not touch chocomilk. Even DD7 who loves chocolate milk is leary of the stuff on vacation.:rotfl: :rotfl:

Beware of old Nesquick.:scared: :scared:

CRFan, I think Gasparilla's Grille hours are more seasonal. When it starts to slow down, they probably do close the grill earlier and only offer prepared items for sale.

GoofyGal, I've never had a problem taking items back to our room. We would usually grab an extra can of soda and something that would stay fresh in the fridge for a few hours. If you're planning on doing that, you may want to throw some saran wrap in your luggage. There's a big difference between bringing back a snack, vs hoarding trays of food to replace other meals. It's kind of gross seeing some of the things that other people do, but that's a whole other thread.

We've always planned breakfast in the lounge, with the exception of one character breakfast. Food is fairly continuous, so I'm sure you can hop back easily from the MK for a quick bite. Trying to get back from other parks to take advantage of 1 or 2 hours of appetizers might be harder to plan. The kids items don't really change all that much, so having pb&j and chicken nuggets for 3 or 4 nights straight, may or may not be welcomed (I know kids who wouldn't mind at all). Plus, seating is limited. You may end up standing around waiting for a table, or bringing the food back to your room to eat. I don't want to sound real negative about your idea to plan on eating in the lounge, but I did want to prepare you for some of the drawbacks.

Channing you are correct. It was Nesquik Chocolate Milk I was asking for, however the company that makes it is Nestle. In all the times I have had it I never got sick from it. Maybe you're DH purchased some that were past the expiration date and the Cast Members did not notice it so they would not sell them.

What my family and I usually do is to be back in the lounge before 5:00 PM, this way we always manage to get a table. So goofygal if you want to be on the safe side that is one idea which could work, if you can manage getting there before 5:00 PM.

Werfamily: I'm a home-based travel agent. I'd prefer the same person writing both reviews. That way it would be a real comparison for that person.

I personally think the GF is on par with the Ritz! :goodvibes

As an agent, I find most customers ask if the deluxe resorts are as child friendly as the moderate/value resorts. My clients know Disney's level of service and have no doubt they compare with other five star resorts.

I just think highlighting the things they offer for children (especially at the GF with the Tea Party, Pirate Adventure, Cooking Class) would stand out rather than just comparing it to the Ritz.

I know many people who go to the Ritz in Naples, Fl that would never go to the GF, many don't have children and have no interest in Disney. So to write a high-end review for a luxury magazine might not make a difference in the high-end traveler. But family travel is another issue.

Ok... nesquick always tastes like it has coconut in it...

As far as reviews are concerned...

Look into alot of the trip reports here on the threads and also check out the various threads with photos... I find that hearing from people who actually stay at the resorts and are often repeat customers have more to say about the resorts than the cursory travel guides. They are ok, but I like to hear about what people say - good and bad.

I have found the GF to be a very good resort to stay at. I have stayed there the last 3 trips - with the Poly being my equal - will be staying at both again this year (split trip around a Disney Cruise...)

One more question...

Do you have to get ADR's for EVERY trip to GF Cafe? I went last time and got turned away because I didn't have them and the restaurant was only 1/2 full. Sometimes the way Disney does things just bugs the daylights out of me. All I wanted was a nice breakfast. Did Gaspies instead and was still nice, but I really wanted my eggs benny...

I hate being turned away from a 1/2 empty restaurant too. But they have less servers so one section is usually closed.

Only in Jan/Feb have I been able to eat without reservations anywhere. Never in the busy months.

You might be able to get a reservation a day or two ahead, I was able to the week of Thanksgiving as we were changing our schedule around.

I have got to get off this board and get my kids some dinner! :goodvibes

My last question is:

Do they have actual containers of milk (like in Gaspie) or just milk to pour into a cup?

Can I ask for an individual bottle of water? Do they have them hidden somewhere?

To bring to the parks, I love water with lemon. I just need to know so I can bring my water bottle if they only supply the large glass bottles. For the milk, my baby will have it in his sippy cup, but if it's not in a small pint I'm going to have to bring something for my 4 year old to pour it to. Cups with lids will leak in the cooler.

Thanks for all the great comments. I promise I'm done with all my food related questions for the day!:)

I got chocolate milk there in July but it wasnt in a bottle. They gave it to us in a cup with a lid.
I have never used a microwave but know those who have. We usually just bring drinks back to the room. I am not one for left overs.

Werfamily, I think it's very difficult writing a comparison article between the GF and non-Disney luxury resorts. No pun intended, but it is a completely different world. By comparison to the other Disney resorts, the GF is advertised as their flagship resort and does offer a few extra amenities to keep it's head above the others. For the industry standards though, luxury resorts like the Ritz would get a 5 star rating. The GF may rate a 4, but just barely. It depends on what your readers are looking for. If your readers normally frequent luxury resorts, you may want to point out what the GF lacks when compared. As a reader, that can be taken into account and the decision is then made, as to whether the lack of a certain amenity weighs more than it's location to the Magic Kingdom.

Personally, I know that when I'm at the GF, I won't be receiving the same level of service that I do at the Ritz. On the flip side though, when I'm at the Ritz, I don't get the magic of being immersed in the middle of Disney World.

I don't plan on reheating the lounge food offerings! :rotfl2:

My 4 year old is a very picky eater. He eats so little. He LOVES McD chicken nuggets and fries like every other preschooler. He rarely finishes a meal in WDW since he's too excited to move on to do something he'd rather enjoy - anything but eat! So we usually pack up his meal and keep it in the stroller for later when he's hunger. This trip we used the microwave a few evenings in the food court to heat up his happy meal or his pizza. I also always pack some Easy Mac just in case. It just requires some water and a Microwave. He's just not an eater. So having the option of heating up something for him helps. But I don't really want a microwave in my room.

I'm always hoping that as each year passes, his appetite will change. I think once the baby starts to really eat meals they'll eat together. I can see already the baby is a good eater. Hopefully this will rub off on his brother! :)

Ya, I have not seen individual milk containers of any type in the GF lounge.

I do not think there are indiv water bottles at all in the concierge either. They have these at Gaspies, too.

No leftovers on vacation at least!!!;)

DD7 lives on mac and cheese at WDW....esp now that the kids selections are sooo limited. She hates burgers and pizza and most everything else, too, on the adult menus. She even hates pbjs....only peanut butter...no jelly.

I think the Nesquick that hit DH was probably left out by a guest and then an unsuspecting CM put it back on ice - only it had maybe been left out way too long.....it was 3 yrs ago and the bottles were in self serve ice bins (not sure if they still are because we do not do this deal anymore!:sad2: ).....it was an unseasonably HOT day. We were just super thankful that DS didn't drink his Nesquick. We found it untouched on the bottom of DD's stroller. Thank God.

The GF is always listed in the luxury travel magazines as a five star hotel. They have five star dining and a spa - just like the Ritz. However, being in WDW, it doesn't appeal to all luxury high-end travelers. The high-end traveler is usually retired, has money to spend and not traveling with children.

I also agree that those going to WDW don't read articles or books. It's so easy to get first-hand comments from people who have stayed there.

I enjoy articles that note items that aren't as common. Like fun facts, I don't think many people (off the boards that is) know about the kids classes, kid's clubs, maid parade, ladybug release, etc... It has to be something besides a basic review describing the place.
