I'm so excited, 2 weeks today and I'll be checking into the RPC for my very first time :cool1:

do they leave the Christmas lights on the tree/etc. 24 hours a day?

Thanks

Yes, they do! My favorite thing about having insomnia while staying RPC was walking out and looking at the lights at a quiet 3am:)

Enjoy your stay!

:santa:

I've finally read this thread from beginning to end and I still can't get enough information :rotfl2:

This is probably going to sound really silly, but I'd like to take lots of photos of decorations which as few people around as possible, so I'm thinking of staying up very late one night or getting up very early the next morning - do they leave the Christmas lights on the tree/etc. 24 hours a day?

Thanks
Yes, they do. I went to the lobby at 3am and got great pictures with nobody around!!! :thumbsup2

Thank you all so much for the prayers for Rees. For "strangers" to take time out to seriously pray for my son means more to me than you will ever know. Wishing us all GRAND holidays with our families. Hold them close, tell them you love them, and enjoy the time together!

Misti, 3am sounds like the time to go to the lobby! ;) Although, if everyone does, it will be crowded. :rotfl:

LOL just saw that!! :rotfl:

I liked being able to walk out in my slippers and have total solitude.. one of my favorite memories actually! I felt like a kid in my own victorian castle! ;)

Time to start planning our 3am party in the lounge one trip!! :santa:

Kelly,
Thanks for moving Lives4Disney's pics of the Walt Suite over to this thread. It's fun to dream a little! Celine Dion was staying in there when we were at RPC in June!

Dis Ohana, I am also going to go to the Xmas party on the 25th. We weren't planning on it, but since we had a surprisingly good experience on the 16th we aer going to try again with our guys. So, I will have an idea if the 16th was a fluke with the low crowds....it was in the 40s as I said so maybe that kept locals away.

About SEL.....they were there on time, great car, help etc....just a few things were idfferent and I really liked the owner a lot and hope he is still the owner....I want to know for sure .....I guess what made me start thinking something was up was when you wrote they wouldn't really give you a pick up time....they always suggested before. Then they didn't call 48 hrs out and confirm like they always do. I called them because I was arriving with just my girls ad wanted to make sure. Just little service things that seem off from before. Also the only one I ever talked to there this time was M*****L and that seemed strangely different. He seems like the only one! :confused3

BrianD...I will find out about the rehabs today. I think it is only Sago but I will check for sure.

We are LAZY and nobody is moving. Not sure what the plan is.

Talk to ya later,
Channing

I thought it was a little strange that they wouldn't help me with a pickup time, I mean c'mon! They do this all day long. If I didn't have my TA's on the DIS Boards how would I know :confused3 ?
I did speak to the guy you are talking about, he was also the one to email me. I think you're right, he does seem to be the only contact there.
I passed the SEL reservation information along to princess4rule, I hope she's reading this.

When I was there in July I was staying Sugar loaf and Channing was in RPC. I went up to RPC to meet her and Vonnie and saw Joan Rivers. She was so tiny.

Nothing wrong with that RELAX and enjoy your family!

Princessrule4....we were there at the same time!! We must have crossed paths in RPC!!

I haven't made my reservations yet! So he wouldn't give you a pick up time? That makes no sense! Mabye we should try Happy Limo or one of the others!

Lives4Disney- would you use them again or switch to another company? Let us know how your return trip to the airport goes!
Thanks! Hope you're having a great time!

Yep - we were there the first week in June. Did you see Celine too? She was with her son who was adorable and had beautiful long hair. She was also with a giant bodyguard. I about dropped my fruit plate in the lounge when I turned around and they were standing about a foot from me! I just smiled and tried to act normal...:rolleyes1

That is sooo neat! We didn't get a chance to see her, but we were told that she was staying in the Walt Suite. I was looking out for her...she is one of my favorites.

We also met an NBA retired basketball player...I forget his name at the top of my head, but my son has his autograph...I'm not a sports kind of person to remember all their names. But he was quite nice and polite when my husband approached him. We sat and talked for about 20 minutes.

We have also seen...William Shatner and Dan Marino (I remembered his name), who is absolutely gorgeous and I didn't know who he was until my husband said so. My husband had drinks at Mizners Lounge sitting next to Larry King.

We have seen many celebs in the GF...I would have to sit and think to remember them all!!:)

We however did not. To all of you with a booked GV room and not having some kind of magical fairy follow you around (or evidently having a great travel agent! ) please don't go to Disney expecting any kind of upgrade. We not only didn't get any kind of upgrade we got put in Sago Cay which is the only building that is not refurbished. ALSO if you have a GV be sure to put in the request you want, because the idea that you leave no request and this will give you upgrade opportunities if for the birds. I don't have any clue how or why certain people get upgraded and on this board it seems that EVERYONE gets an upgrade, but we just did not. Channing and I had the same discount, so I gotta believe that didn't have anything to do with it. It was noted on our reservation that we were celebrating our 15 year anniversary (and in today's world, I think that quite a feat!!:rotfl: ). When we checked in we asked politely and nicely if it was possible to get a refurbished room. The girl smiled and said "we have you in building 5". Which of course, I knew was the only one not refurbished. So I sucked it up and we waited for our room to be ready. After all Channing and lots of others told me not to worry, no bad GV rooms!! Well when our room wasn't ready at 4:15 we had to go to dinner at the MK for our 4:30 reservation at CP. We didn't come back until around 11 pm to find out that our room 5121 was on the ground floor right next to the elevator in Sago Cay. It is funny because if you look back the only thing I ever posted that I really wanted was a higher floor and non smoking and hopefully a refurbished room(oh and I did really want to split my kids sleeping so I wanted a bench which is WHY I didn't request a higher floor since the dormer rooms do not have the extra bench bed.) I mean think of all the rooms in GV that AREN"T on the ground floor! I figured the odds were good that I would at least have a good chance of being off the ground level. Nope!

When we went to open the curtain and see our balcony we opened the door and a whoosh of smoke smell just filled the room. I guess our balcony is right outside a bench where people smoke. Don't know if this is a designated spot, but clearly someone was just smoking. Again, ironically the only thing our reservation as far as requests had was NON smoking since my DD has a severe alergy to smoke. So it was 11:30 at night and my daughter started coughing and my husband who has "sound senitivity" was up all night with the humming of the elevator. I cried myself to sleep! Very big let down for "upgrading our resort".

Now we are not frequent GF guest but we come to Disney once a year, so my husband went down the next morning and again nicely asked if there was any way we can move to a refurbished room on a higher floor away from an elevator. He explained that this was our 15 year anniversary and that we were splurging and his wife cried herself to sleep so any help would be appreciated. They said they would move us. So we packed up and put our luggage with Bell Services just to be told that we wouldn't have a room until after three but our luggage would be in our new room. At about three we called from Epcot and were told they put us in 5320. SO we got moved across the hall from the elevator and up two floors. It was more quiet and no chance of smoke, so my hubby was happy. I of course looked out and saw the view. While my kids were thrilled to see the monorail, I of course saw the maintenance trucks and we got to listen to them backing up! Then we look out over the pond and get to look at this big yellow tractor. Not very magical so again I cried myself to sleep, but at this point there was nothing we could do. We did go on to have a good trip. Weather was perfect. Warm, swimming weather and cold on our last night for the MVMCP. That party is AWESOME! The resort was nice. I liked Gasparillas, hated those stinking Golf carts EVERYWHERE. We always had one parked in front of our building and had to dodge them quite a bit! We sat in front of Gasppy's to watch the fireworks and had at least six carts pass us during the 10 minute show.

OK I know I sound sour, but reading this thread it is very hard not to get the impression that this resort is Grand and magic happens here. It just didn't happen for us. My DH said if I hadn't read these boards I probably wouldn't have been so dissappointed in our room(s). He is right of course, so to those of you dreaming of an upgrade - or at least a refurbished room- don't do it!

One last thing. While I was crying in the bathroom the Bellhop guy came with our luggage (which they assured us would be in our second room and we wouldn't have to call for, but of course we had to call!) he told my DH that he was sorry I was upset but that Disney Management was having a conference and of course they took up two of the refurbished buildings. Just bad luck on our part.

We probably won't be back to the GF. We can't afford RPC or Sugar Loaf, and I didn't really need those things, I just really wanted the refurbished room. Channing and others had told me there were very few bad views.... Just my luck I got one of those! We didn't bother taking a picture of our room since it was the old version. Do have a picture of our lovely tractor view though!

Channing very glad you got upgraded. You probably would have hated the GV rooms!

Oh yeah, Mousekeeping was great. No extra soaps or anything, but the room was clean and turn down each night. They did bring me up clean towels quickly if we needed extra because we went swimming a couple of days.

OK thats my review! Hope everyone has a wonderful trip coming up over the holidays. The gingerbread house was lovely! Sorry if I sound sour, just want you GV people to make sure you put in a request for what you want and then try not to be dissappointed if you don't get it.

Here are some pictures of the view from 5320!

By the last day of our trip the tractor was moved..... Disney Management was at the resort, so I gotta believe that had something to do it.

Any updates on Sago?

Anyone been told the actual date it will closed for refurbishment? We arrive 11/25. I have used up 1 of my 2 preferences as, "Refurbished room".

I'd love to mention something else as a preference, if the only building with the old decor will be closed by the 25th....:confused3

Cmbar....oh man. I feel awful for you.... I had no clue that there were any bad Sago views.

I am so sorry GF was a bust for you. I totally understand. We've had our share of disappointments at Disney resorts.

I do realize how lucky I am and even more so now reading your post. I think when the NEW room turned out to be in Sago, I would have thrown a FIT in the lobby haha. I would have been so disappointed.... It's not right.

Glad there were some good things, and you don't sound sour, just big time disappointed and it sounds like you have a right to be. I also know how you're feeling about the posts here etc and how you wound up.....I thought the same thing about the Dolphin and the S/D thread.....they bash the GF left and right over there and say how the S/D are TRUE 4 STAR hotels...blah blah but I was so grossed out and surprised by that place this past week I would never stay there again.:sad2: I have no clue how those S/D thread folks say what they say because it sure hasn't applied to me and our stays ever.:confused3 I hate that place.

Hey, about SEL.....They were good as far as limo cos go, but just not over the top fantastic like every prior trip. I am not overly excited about them anymore and that really is what leads me to think - NEW OWNER. I wonder what happened to the old owners and where they went etc. and how I can find out the situation. Something is weird about that whole thing. I would use them again, but I feel like I have had the wool pulled over my face KWIM?

I will talk to ya later.,,,,once, again CMbar, I am so sorry for the way your stay turned out. :guilty:

PS...for all you guys getting up in the middle of the night to take pics....just know they have security cameras on the gingerbread house this year, lol, because people ate off it last year in the middle of the night!!! Don't wear anything overly revealing, haha.

Lives4Disney

CMBar, I am so sorry your room wasn't what you expected. Not everyone gets sprinkled with pixiedust, unfortunately.

Please don't let that one time discourage you from staying again...we too have not always had magical stays, but the great memories with our children were all to powerful to even remember our bad stays.

GF is a great and beautiful resort. It is so hard to make everyone happy in any establishment. Unfortunately, they did try to accomodate you with a move, but it still was not the best room for you.

Glad to here the rest of your vacation with your family was pleasant.:)
