k&a&c'smom- Wow! Thanks for all your research on the codes! I guess I will just have to wait until we get there to see where we are staying.

Great news on the daybed.

Thanks for being so helpful!

Hey everybody. My family (4 people) will be staying at the GF for the first time in late March/early April and we're very excited! However, I'm just now reading about all this construction and now I'm a little worried.

Right now I have an Outer Building-Theme Park View booked. Would the construction impact me? Is there a certain building that I should request, or try to avoid if I get placed in it? Should I upgrade to something else? Which building would be ideal for a great view + no construction worries?

Please help guys, this might be the only time my parents ever get to stay here and I need everything to be perfect!

Any advice is appreciated...

Happy New Year! A few festive photos!

The was taken from the second floor about 11:30 last night. Only had my phone, so the quality isn't great but it give you an idea of what it looked like. The mass of people are an the dance floor. There was a cash bar set up where the little kids tables and tv usually are near Summer Lace). Hundreds of balloons fell from the ceiling at midnight and by 12:05 kids were popping them as fast as they could!

This is a picture of the balloons we collected as well as the hats they were giving out at the GF last night. Everyone wore the hats, even the CMs!

AND any true GF lover will appreciate this picture.

How long does "The Party" last?? I am very seriously considering staying at "The Grand Floridan" for 10 nights between Christmas& Newyear 2012.Yes it will be "EXPENSIVE" but i am sure it will be "Worth It"

Thanks In Advance

CoachBagFanatic - Aww, I'm sorry you won't make it back to your favorite. You'll have a good time at BC, I'm sure, but I understand your disappointment.

Thanks k&a&c'smom. My sadness is slowly going away. The GF is so very special to us but I can totally understand DHs point of view about the construction and the green beach wall as well. I will be happy when the DVC building is up and enclosed this way hopefully most of the noise will be on the inside, just like BLT. Then we will be able to return home again.:cloud9:

I am  to say that our upcoming GF SL trip was short lived. DH was not happy at all with the picture of the green wall along the beach by the pool. I have to say farewell and we are off to the BC. so  I am. I thought that I was finally going home. Oh well.

Your trip will be great! I also am missing the Grand, but I am eagerly awaitng the construction to finish so I can go back!!!!

I think a theme park view would not be impacted AT ALL. I would keep your booking.

Does anyone have a link to more room pics of the standard rooms?
I have seen the ones on page 1 and allears.net

thanks !!!!

addiedisney - You are most welcome! The codes often confound many, as everyone finds them curious.;)

I should have said in my last post the room assigners used to assign rooms 3-4 days prior to your arrival, when your reservation was downloaded to the resort. Even then, no one could get their assignment prior to check in, as it isn't set in stone. If a current guest needs a re-assignment (for instance, don't like view or floor, or a maintenance issue occurs), the guests not yet checked in can be moved to other rooms as necessary.

A year or more ago, WDW switched to a computer system that assigns rooms, and I'm not clear on how it works - but it certainly seems to be very fluid, and rooms can and do get switched around as guests check in.

HTH!:flower3:

xrobx - Welcome!:goodvibes Congrats on your first GF stay, and so soon!

As psac posted, the TPV rooms should not be impacted at all in regards to view. All of these rooms face the CR and MK, although a few end rooms in Big Pine Key may have a panoramic view that includes the Wedding Pavilion, and therefore the construction. I would probably request Sago Cay or Conch Key, as those buildings are furthest from the construction area and are not likely to see the mess.

In regards to noise, most recently returned guests have stated they have not heard anything. I hope this is still the case in March, but there is really no way to tell. Keep following here on this thread, I'm sure there will be reports as the construction progresses to help you.:thumbsup2

Disbug1 - Welcome!:yay: I'm not at all familiar with the NYE party, hopefully someone will pop in who can answer your question.

Disney-Kim - I have quite a few room photos, and will be glad to post some after I run a few errands. Is there an angle or room amenity you particularly want to see?

There is a GF photo thread in the photography board. Here is the link, some of them go way back and have been deleted, but you should be able to find a lot of photos: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1768829

CoachBagFanatic and pas130 - I certainly understand the desire to stay elsewhere until all construction has finished. The GF is the most expensive property, and we are debating staying at BC or AKL until everything is completed. On the other hand, most guests are reporting little to no impact, so we may take the chance - we can always move if we find it unacceptable.:thumbsup2

I really don't think the construction will be an issue for most people staying at GF. We returned less than a week ago and I was only vaguely aware of construction. My awareness was only curiosity since I'm a Disney geek. I really don't think I would have noticed the construction otherwise. My non-Disney geek family (DH, kids, parents) did not notice or comment on the construction. The only reason I was aware that any of them noticed is that my DH asked me when GF DVC is opening (usually he's very anti-DVC so it was an interesting question :thumbsup2 ).

Disbug1, we had a lot of fun at the NYE party. It was a great alternative to going into the parks, some of which were at capacity. We got to the lobby after dinner, around 9 PM. Lot's of father's and daughters dancing, kids dancing and so on. There was an extra cash bar set up with a signature blue cocktail for the evening! It was very festive, some people were dressed up, others not so much, but it was fun. No entertainment other than the band and the pianist, but no one seemed bored. AND no one had too much to drink as far as I saw. The party broke up very shortly after midnight. We, as well as many other's left a few minutes after midnight. Theband stopped playing then also.

I agree with what DrMomof3 said. Other than the walls up the construction is not really impacting guests at the point. However, there is going to be a point that there will be a lot of noise, you can't construct a building of that size without noise. There is no building yet and who knows when it will start. Disney isn't going to say. I am booked to stay in SL in April, but that is away from the construction. As has been discussed, the expensive RPC rooms that look over the lagoon will be the most affected. I wouldn't stay away from the GF during the construction, just be a bit more selective in where in the resort I stay!

How about a GF photo!

I haven't been on here in a while. But today I found time to read some
GF posts again. We check in to the GRAND for our 1st stay in 18 days! We will spend time in the parks but I am going to make sure we spend time at the resort and take a moment to smell the roses and ENJOY it! I can't wait! My goal is to stay at all the Disney resorts and this one has been at the top of my list FOREVER! It's a dream finally coming true! :cheer2:

The noise is no bother. We stayed at SSR when it was still a work in progress. I just love the beach and beach pool, and the wall being up kills me!! I miss it there so much though :sad1:

YAY for another photo :cheer2:

Last night I was thinking to myself that each time I walked by Victoria & Alberts to see their menu their doors never opened, although I can understand why since it's not your normal restaurant. Well then I started wondering where is their check-in desk for those guests who are lucky enough to eat there, because I don't think it's the type of place where you just open the doors and walk right inside. So I am wondering does Victoria & Alberts use the same check-in desk as Citricos, because it's the only other restaurant located in that area.

I know that someone else whose actually eaten there will answer you, but I was curious, and found this blogger's comment:

Victoria and Albert’s is located on the second story of the Grand Floridian Hotel. We were greeted by the hostess before we had the opportunity to enter the restaurant. It was like they knew we were coming. I’m guessing the valet had tipped them off? That’s service!

ethanwa - Eight days to go, woohoo!:cool1:

pas130 - I understand, we love the pools, too, and a wall right off the beach pool doesn't sound very enticing. Part of the charm is being able to look out over the lagoon.

threebeesatDisney - Welcome back! Only 17 days to go, how exciting!:dance3: I think you are going to fall in love with the GF - so many of us have, to the detriment of our wallets.

xrobx - You are most welcome.:thumbsup2

CR Resort Fan 4 Life - As WDWKOOK posted, often the maitre d' is standing at the door to V&A's, and walks you right in. On our last two visits, we were at the first seating and were a little early. We checked in with the Citricos podium, just as you surmised. I'll include a photo, for those who are unfamiliar with the area we are discussing.
The brown doors with frosted glass to the left is V&A's; the entrance to Citricos is to the right of those doors, and the waiting area for Citricos is to the far right of this photo (only able to see a few chairs)
