great video, just listening to the soundtrack put tears in my eyes because our trip is so close and the wait is killing me. first time during Christmas season and first time at GF. thanks again for posting the video!!

OMG, I just found out that I am a complete and utter GF snob.

I am an advisor, alum chapter president, and active alumna of Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority. We just found out that our National Convention will be at Disney World in July of 2007. It will actually be at the DD Hilton's convention center.

Well, I came home and broke the news to my DH and talked about if we will go. We agreed we wanted to go. But it came down to: do we stay somewhere else, or do I "commute" to DD (and hilton) for the couple of convention days?

The answer is that I would rather stay at GF than anywhere else. Heck, it is value season anyway and we might as well have a great time. We will see, but I am quite excited about the possibility... but it may be GF, here we come, again!

KrisTX, can you adopt me? I would love a surprise like that. Please let us know how it goes.

By the way, if they don't like the surprise, just let me know when to meet you in the GF lobby. I will never complain about a suprise trip to WDW. ;)

hahaha! We gave them the surprise last night! It was awesome. The kids are just turning 4 and 6. The 6 y.o. read the clues and I sent them on a scavenger hunt through the house. At each destination, there was another wrapped Disney gift. The last one was a certificate telling them about the trip. They were so excited. I filmed it all. It was great fun for me too. She looked at me half way through before she even knew what the big present was and said 'you are the best, most fun mom ever!' Worth every second to see them so happy.

what is the #to call and have a cake made and delivered to your room? how big do i need to order for 2 people?

Wow Kris, sounds like your treasure hunt was a huge hit. I'm so glad it all worked out.

Well, DD's cheerleading team did not advance from the Eastern Mass finals this weekend, so no GF for me this December. It's okay, they did a great job and could be proud of themselves. I'm also free to go to Denver now and see my DS and his partner compete at nationals, so it's all good in the end. All my December buddies, have a great time!

Sorry to hear about your daughter's team :( They must be pretty disappointed. Good luck to your son at Nationals!

Thanks for all your help with this trip! I am sorry that you wont be there to enjoy GF with us all.

I discovered this thread today and got nothing done for reading it all day - thanks for the incredibly helpful info!!

I just went to the mailbox and opened my confirmation package for GF 11/26-11/29. Just wondering if the following code means anything -

Grand Floridian - Lodge Concr (V)

What is the "V"? You all would be the ones to know if it means anything!

Thanks so much!!

Tammi, Sorry about the cheerleading. We're still rooting for your DS in the ice dancing. Let us know if it'll be televised so PoCA and I can watch!

Tammi, Janet, all GF experts! Do I need to email or call the IPO to confirm all of our ADRs and our room request? We leave 2 weeks from tomorrow. I am so excited! I do have a itinerary from them with all of our info. Just wondering if there is any need to follow up before we leave.

Thanks!

Poohangel, glad you liked the video slideshow. It does not do the fireworks show justice, but hopefully it at least brings back fond memories to those who have seen the Wishes fireworks show.

For your cake, if you want to enjoy it in your room, Private Dining should be able to arrange that for you. If you want something more elaborate than a small round cake, you might have to contact the Grand Floridian Bakery directly. But since you only need something for two people, Private Dining is probably the easiest way to go. My family has enjoyed cakes such as the following during our Grand Floridian vacations: click here. The cakes have always been scrumptious.

You do have the option of ordering a mini-cake. This cake is small, but might be enough for the two of you if you simply want a little something extra that night (of course, if you don’t like to share your dessert, you can certainly order a couple of mini-cakes ;) ). “D&R Love Disney” had the following mini-cake served at Narcoossee’s Restaurant in honor of her wedding anniversary: click here for photo. She said the cake was delicious.

The Walt Disney World switchboard phone number is (407)-824-2222. I have used that number many times over the years (as recently as last night). I simply ask the Walt Disney World Operator to transfer me to the appropriate resort/restaurant/location.

I hope that helped. Have a wonderful vacation.

Davids-Coco, I don't think you're a resort snob. You've just found a place where you're comfortable and enjoy yourself, it's as simple as that. ;)

I hope you can get your Grand Floridian stay for the convention. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Please keep us posted.

~Dang,~ I was so hoping you were going to surprise me with that trip. ;)

It sounds wonderful, KrisTX. I am so happy your little ones were thrilled with the gift that you are giving them. You are truly "the best, most fun mom ever!"

Nicolemarie, I have no idea what the "V" means after the Lodge Concierge designation. Hopefully, someone here will know and will chime in with the answer.

I just wanted to say, "Welcome to the Dis!" I hope you enjoy the community. Lots of folks have lots of wonderful information to share, as you've already discovered.

Triplefigs, it sounds like you've already got a document that states everything that you need to know. If everything on that itinerary looks correct, then don't worry about anything but packing and getting your family safely to Walt Disney World. Of course, if you need a bit of final reassurance, then by all means contact the IPO via the telephone for that final warm & fuzzy feeling. I'm sure you won't be the first guest to do so. ;)

My family had moved our Halloween trip to Christmas/New Year's, but that trip is now on hold until Nutz4dzny is up for traveling. It looks like the two of our families won't be in the World until sometime this Spring. Until then, I'll have to live vicariously through you and the rest of the gang here on the Dis. Please take lots of photos and share them with us upon your return.

Have a ~magical~ vacation.

I have a favor to ask of everyone. If you're "quoting" someone's post, please trim it to the pertinent parts. I know I try to do that, but if you ever find that I didn’t, just PM me and I’ll take care of it. This FAQ thread is getting quite large. I feel for the folks who have recently joined our community and who have spent the time that it takes to read this FAQ thread in its entirety (such brave souls ;) ). Thank you.

NicoleMarie, I just looked up a previous confirmation for a stay in lodge concierge and it shows the same "V" code. That's the roman numeral for 5 and that was our party size, so perhaps it's that or just an internal code. We had booked Sugar Loaf and a regular concierge room.

Denise, I'll keep you updated on the webcast. They haven't determined if it will be live yet. If it is, they'll be competing between 12pm-4pm on Wednesday 11/30 and if they are in the top 9 of their group, they'll move on to compete Thursday 12/1 between 7:30-10pm and Saturday 12/3 4pm-5:45pm. I will give you the details when I find out more. Sounds like you are all set with your itinerary. The only thing you might want to follow up on is the room assignment. I made a mistake with not doing that last year when we visited the YC and it was nearly a big mess. They should have you assigned a few days before your arrival date, so you can check in with IPO and see if they were able to give you a tower room.

Good luck to your son and partner! I'll have our laptop at WDW and DH is paying for the daily WiFi, so post here or PM me. I will email and/or call IPO over Thanksgiving weekend about the Tower Room. If we don't get the tower room, I want Marina side. What would be a good area on the Marina side to request?

Thanks!

You have helped a great deal, you always have such great information. I was thinking of ordering the 6" layer cake since we will be celebrating our anniversary while we are there. Would that be about right for 2 people to share? I liked the mini cakes but did want something a little bigger and decorated special. I was thinking white cake, raspberry filling and white chocolate frosting, with the white chocolate Minnie and Mickey topper. The rest they could just decorate to be pretty, I am not that picky. Any other suggestions.

PoohAngel,

Last year about this time I had a 6 inch layer cake at 'Ohana's for Mom's birthday....it was huge for 2 people. But guess what? I discovered there were many children at the tables around me who thought pineapple and caramel sauce was yucky (before the menu change) and it was such fun to share our cake with all the little ones.....we really didn't want to carry it back to the room or take it home with us! Plus I felt like I was sharing Disney Magic with the kids who weren't expecting cake!
