Hi everyone!

My hubby and I just got back from 8 days at CSR. I thought I'd give a little update and answer any questions if I could.

Check-In
We waited maybe 10 or 15 minutes. It was a Thursday arounf 11:00 am. It goes really fast because they have someone pass out the world update and CSR newsletter and you spend most of your time thinking about all the fun you'll have. They forgot to give us a transportation map and schedule of magic mornings but were able to get them from guest services later.

Room Location
We stayed in Casitas 1. I had requested this in advance. I really liked the proximity to El Centro and parking. The theming was lovely, as well. We also stayed in the Cabanas in the past and I liked the Casitas better. The colors in the room decor were a little more muted.

I really didn't notice any extra noise being so close to the convention center. I would have to say it was very quiet overall.

Pool
We went to the main pool and drank margharitas. It was nice to relax and watch all the kids (and grown-ups) have fun in the water

Birthday
We celebrated my hubby's birthday. I ordered a cake from room service before I left. It was $25 +tax (1/8 of a sheetcake) and was excellent. This really wasn't a bad price since I paid $20 for the same size cake before we left at the Kosher bakery near our home. It was strawberry shortcake with whipped cream icing, decorated with fruit. I'm not sure how to insert a photo in my message so if anyone would like to see it email me at micki@graciesystems.net

My husband celebrated his birthday for 5 of the 8 days. He loved the attention! We made sure to get him a birthday button. I thought the parks all have different ones but unfortunately they're all the same except for Downtown Disney.

Housekeeping/Maintainance
Superb! We are pretty fussy about clean hotel rooms and our person did a wonderful job. We even got towel characters which was a first for us. We called for an extra blanket and it was there in less than 10 minutes. We had a tempermental toilet and had to call twice b/c it wouldn't flush. Maintainance was there in less than ten minutes both times. We were a little worried because it was late and we really wanted to go to bed.

My Pal Mickey
You've got to get one! They are $56.00 + tax and totally worth it. I surprised my husband with a gift bag from Pixie Gifts when we arrived. He loved Mickey so much. He tells jokes, knows when the parades and fireworks begin, and is full of interesting facts. We especially liked how he pointed out details in the parks that we would have never known. I could also play a game with him while my husband rode rockin roller coaster. Yes, I'm a chicken.

Dining
The Pepper Market was even better than I remembered. We really liked the variety. I was a little disappointed in our dinners at Maya Grill. The first night we ate there we had an excellent waitor named Paolo and decent steak. I remembered that their meno was a little more interesting in the past. The second time, our server was soooo slow. My husband ordered the tuna rare and he got this little flat piece of overcooked meat. He was really disappointed and should of complained but didn't want to fuss. Ironically, I order the tuna at the Pepper Market our last night and was presented with this wonderful, thick piece of meat, with a rare center - my husband was so jealous.

We also dined at some of the boothes in Epcot for the Food and Wine Festival. There's incredible honey lemonade in America and wonderful lemon chicken in Morrocco. We also ate in a restaurant in Japan and really enjoyed our meal as well as the Yachtsmen's Steakhouse, Guillivers, and Rainforest Cafe.

Crowds
I thought it was pretty crowded for this time of year. It was definitely manageable but the Magic Kingdom gets so crowded. I'd avoid it on a Saturday in you can. Lines were long for some rides. There was a 2 hour wait for Tower of Terror at MGM and the fast pass wasn't open. Otherwise, we used fast pass when we could and waited in line for other things.

Transportation
We never used the bus system this time because we rented a car. It was nice having a car because we could explore the other resorts easier than doing it by bus.

The only disadvantage is that the buses drop you right at the entrance of the park and when you self park it's an eternity away. OK, I'm being dramatic They do have trams that take you to the entrance.

Resort Entertainment
Does anyone know what happened to the mariachi? We missed them playing in El Centro.

That's all I can think of. If you have any questions, ask away.

Great stuff!

May 2004 will be our 3rd trip to WDW as a family (wife and 2 kids) and our 3rd to CSR.
We've stayed in Rachos 7B both times and will most definately request a room there again! ('98, '00). It will be son's 5th b-day while we're there too!!!

Someday when I have more free time, I'll look at all the replys here.
The pics are great and the 2 CSR web pages I've seen are great! Bookmarked both of 'em.

I am sad to hear of the discontinuation of the CSR-BW bus. It was a most convient way to head to the BW and then on to EPCOT.

I loved to watch the kids sit on the steps of the pyramid for the pool opening cerimony.

I'm taking My wife and 12 yr old daughter for their first visit
to disney world we are staying at CSR from 12-13-03 to
12-18-03. I would like to thank everyone for this board
it has answered alot of my questions.
What should the crowds and weather be like for that week.

Welcome to the boards w_anderson_1! I will be there the same time as you!

I am speaking second hand from posts I have read, as I have never been to Florida in any month......

Regarding the weather, I have also asked that question & the answer is "it depends". It should be nowhere near as cold New England!! However, winter weather in Florida sounds like California's. It can be warm one day, say in the 70's and cold another day, say in the 50's. I am hoping for the warmer weather myself. :-) The good thing is that it is NOT the rainy season, but I have seen posts where they say it downpoured in December. So the best advice is probably to check www.weather.com before you go. They have a 10-day forcast.

I also hear the crowds should be on the lighter side because the Christmas travelers will start arriving on the 19th!

I have heard the same from friends that stayed there in December during x-mas week. They had to go out and but jackets because they experienced one day in the 30's. Should not be bad for the crowds because they will all be coming in the following 2 weeks.

Can you get a rollaway for a 5th person at coronado?

Has anyone used the new highspeed internet access?? I am so excited about this at CSR! :Pinkbounc Our's is a working vacation & the idea of dial-up was scary. Please tell me it's working!!!

Hi

Could someone tell me whether u have to pay for the coffee left in the room? I recently stayed at Caribbean Beach where it was free but I have read that you pay for the coffee at CSR.

Thanks

Hannah

It was already in our room with the coffee maker when we were there in October. We aren't coffee drinkers so we didn't actually ever use it but I didn't see anything that said we'd be charged. I think it's just a standard (like the soap or iron and ironing board).

For whoever asked about a rollaway bed, we had one in our room for one night a couple of weeks ago. It was supposed to be a $15 charge, but they didn't end up charging us for it.

And one day housekeeping forgot to leave coffee so we left a note asking for some and she left a bag with 10 coffees in it :) So feel free to ask for more if you like to make several cups.

Watch for little lizards, bunnies, and once we saw a green frog sticking to the side of the building.

For whoever was worried that the rooms just looked too "loud" -- I too had that reservation. Our room had very subtle light brown bedspreads. The teal color was on the furniture, but having muted bedspreads made the whole room attractive instead of just garish, which was my impression from most of the pics I've seen. Whether that was in our section (cabanas) or individual rooms here and there, I don't know. I went from being willing to overlook the decor to liking it.

Room temperature was great, and you can set the temp digitally in the room (though it reverts to 75 after a while). The ceiling fan does a great job and if you lower the temp AND use the fan it will probably be too cold!

We didn't get any towel animals, for what that's worth, and we tipped generously. That's fine, except for one night it was just adults, and everything else was great.

just back yesterday (11/19/03) after 5 nights. i really loved it!

we had an ap rate, i think it was $79 a night and what a bargain!

the resort is beautiful, the room was larger than i thought it would be too. we were in cabanas 8b, room 8530 facing the parking lot. we only used the pool once as it was just the 2 of us this time and we were busy elsewhere, for this reason i wish we had been in cabanas 9b instead. oh well, the walk was about 4 minutes to el centro, my park feet were not exactly running :)

we only took the bus once, to mk early entry. we were the only ones on it!

pepper market - ate here twice for breakfast and once for dinner. i thought the breakfast was good and you can't beat the selection! so much to choose from. at dinner i wasn't feeling very well and just got a grilled chicken sandwich. it wasn't that great but the fries were delicious.

we did buy the mugs and refilled them a lot. pepper market doesn't open until 7am but they have a little walk up window where you can get coffee before that.

tried the pool slide once. very fun..and fast. you can also refill your mug at the pool bar, which is handy.

we recently bought dvc, but i'm sure we will be staying here again to conserve points before moving to our dvc resort.

two thumbs up on csr!

We just got back Sunday from a 9 day trip, first time at CSR. We LOVED it!
We lucked out at check-in and got a corner room in Cabanas 9-B without asking or begging ;) The rooms look freshly refurbed with light colored comforters. Pepper Market was great, we ate breakfast there just about every day and dinner there a few times. I think the Cabanas are the best location, close to El Centro, 2 bus stops and just a short stroll over the bridge to the main pool.
The resort looked about 80-90% full at check-in 11/8, the tail end of Jersey week, Soaps Weekend. By the end of the week we almost had the resort to ourselves. Although there were plenty of families this resort just has a more adult feel to it. And it is just beautiful, especially at night with all the lights reflecting off the lake.
Only one thing I would change- the elevators. I don't know how they are in the other buildings but in the Cabanas there is only one elevator at one end of the building, NOT in the middle as I had expected. Sometimes I just want to be lazy and not climb up that one flight of steps to the second floor, plus it made it a long haul to the ice machine.
