Plus, with good diamonds its also an investment. Like art, except I'm not really into art. (unless you count the paintings of mickey and minnie at DLRP but I dont really think they're collectors pieces. Lol)

I saw a Mickey painting somewhere the other day that was going about about 4k!!!! Clearly a collectors piece I think!

My own view on all this is that, as with anything, you should adhere to the following rule:

Buy the best (not the most expensive) item that suits your budget...

If presented with 2 identical rings and 1 is £500 and one is £4000, then £4000 is ridiculous because it's bad value as you could get the same one for a lot less. Alternatively, if your financial situation only allows a few hundred pound, then again, £4000 is ridiculous

However, if you can afford £4000 for a ring and it's beautiful enough to feel that it is better than a cheaper one (or much nicer than a more expensive ring), then that's not a ridiculous amount and is actually a good buy.

So basically, I'm sitting on the fence as usual :rotfl2:
You're not on the fence rob, you're right.

With diamonds (exceptions of tiffanys etc. as you pay a bit for the name-but they have exceptional stones) they actually are worth what the shops charge. Literally. That's why you can go get them valued at others places an experts wil tell you what they are worth.

Obviously it would be ridiculous to get into debt over something as trivial as a piece of jewellery. But it lasts forever and you can always sell it for the same price you bought it for (excluding the metal)

Heres some pics of the flooding two miles down the road from me:

Where the posts are is normally a footpath, down which the bench where Robert proposed to me is. I think it's probably underwater!!

And this is usually a car park!!

These were nicked from my friend James's facebook..........

Haha, I'll post you one if you like. We have loads. I went through a phase of keeping all my tiffany boxes and bags! And now its habit and I have to keep and subsequent ones!

It's not the fact that the more you pay the better something is...its that something of better quality costs more.

Two diamonds can be the same size but £1000s different because of the colour and clarity.

I'm not personally sure an engagement ring is an investment, because they aren't really bought for selling once they've increased in value.

I do agree though, that "similar" rings can be very different. There is an aspect of what level of detail you can perceive though.

For example, I encode my mp3 music at a relatively low quality level, because i can't really tell the difference anyway, so my standards are lower. Other people have very good hearing, so encode to a much higher level, because it makes a difference to them.

Rings are the same - some people just can't tell the difference between the highest quality cut / clarity and one a few grades lower. To those people, it wouldn't be worth spending the money on a difference they can't see. To the people who can tell, that difference is probably worth every penny to get the best quality cut / clarity they can find.

I saw it a couple of places. In the village and in the DLH shop I think. SO hopefully it will still be there. I didnlt know if 60E was a lot for a not so big print though....
