well my french teacher did not like me or scousers to be honest which was very strange seen as she lived and taught french, she was french though, so not many of us took it LOL for GCSE

I play the trumpet mainly (I got my grade 8 when I was 13) and play the clarinet and flute too (although not to the same level!!) DH plays piano, violin and bass so between us we can almost cover an orchestra!!

Wow, that's cool... My piano playing is just something I sit and do a little of in my spare time in my room (I've only got a yamaha keyboard at the moment, although it does have the touch sensitive keys).

I really want to upgrade to an electronic piano, but can't afford it at the moment. Maybe once I've finished my MSc I'll treat myself, because although I don't play amazingly well, my keyboard does see almost daily use :)

Sorry was just reading the thread back....

You see its not up to me. I have to point out ones I like while he keeps a non reacty face.

He wont get one though until he can get the best one he wants.....I wouldn't be allowed to choose it. Apparently he has grand engagement plans.

3k isnt too bad for a ring, my mum has a pink diamond one that I love soooo much that she hardly ever wears...jsut wish she'd let me inherit it now!!! lol.

   If Mr. Tiggs spent anything near that on a ring i demand he took it back.... thats seems completey mad to me!!

We have my piano in the lounge, I did take lessons when I was younger but DH plays it now. Plus we have our touch sensitive keyboard upstairs which DH uses as he does some musical directing for shows at the theatre. He's MD for Sleeping Beauty for our panto this year.

My degree is in music, I am out of practice with that too!!

My degree is in Media, Culture and Society- Despite the fact I'm going into my third year I still don't think I know anything about any of it!

Hahaha, Jack can spend as much or as little as he likes. I love him the same, ring or no ring. (I just really want to plan my wedding!!!)

My mum has diamonds, diamonds, diamonds and my dad is a total snob when it comes to buying things and will only get 'the best' (which to him always mean most ££) so my mum wont discourage him! Lol. So 3k seems about normal for a ring to me....think my mums new engagment ring was about 4k, and its amazing!! (Her one from when she actually got engaged 32 years ago was like £20 or something - so she always reminds me that she had to wait a long time for one so beautiful) Although I like to think even if my engagement ring isn't the grandest I wouldnt want to change it....

Her was very 70's and quite hideous though....

Agreed- I think its ridiculous. I can think of better things to spend 3k on than a ring.....

It's not the ring but the man proposing that matters! ::yes::

I've never understood why people think 'the best' is 'most expensive' :confused3 Sorry, I just genuinely don't get it!!

I'm not bothered about the jewellery anyway..... The fact I'm getting married to the man I love has made me happier than anything else!! Even menus!

I think ridiculous is a bit harsh! :(

Just because someone wants to buy you nice things doesnt mean if they didn;t you'd love them any different. I've been with Jack for 4 years while we were both poor students, but now we have jobs that pay well, he wants to wait and get me something extra special!

My own view on all this is that, as with anything, you should adhere to the following rule:

Buy the best (not the most expensive) item that suits your budget...

If presented with 2 identical rings and 1 is £500 and one is £4000, then £4000 is ridiculous because it's bad value as you could get the same one for a lot less. Alternatively, if your financial situation only allows a few hundred pound, then again, £4000 is ridiculous

However, if you can afford £4000 for a ring and it's beautiful enough to feel that it is better than a cheaper one (or much nicer than a more expensive ring), then that's not a ridiculous amount and is actually a good buy.

So basically, I'm sitting on the fence as usual :rotfl2:

I played the clarinet for a while as well when I was at school - so millions of yrs ago. I also had piano lessons for 13 yrs but DH plays better than me and has never had a lesson in his life. Im just not really musical - wish I was though

It's not the fact that the more you pay the better something is...its that something of better quality costs more.

Two diamonds can be the same size but £1000s different because of the colour and clarity.

Plus, with good diamonds its also an investment. Like art, except I'm not really into art. (unless you count the paintings of mickey and minnie at DLRP but I dont really think they're collectors pieces. Lol)

Yep it is indeed... Weddings and marriage to me are about sharing and celebrating your love with your nearest and dearest not money and materialistic things. Theres far better and things to spend that sort of money on.

I meant I personally find it a lot of money for a ring- Sorry, was distracted and didn't explain properly because about three people were talking to me at once (Thats everyone in the house!)...............

Oh no, I agree. If you've got the money, and thats what you want to spend it on, thats fine. I just mean I've got some friends who would happily see their fellas go thousands of pounds into debt for a ring. And they would leave them if they didn't.... :sad2:
