Just a theory, I may be wrong. I hope I am.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but when CBR closed they only offered upgrades to Polynesian, WL, and AKL. Now it seems you can get almost any resort, at some great rates.
The ONLY way the proliferation of other discounts should have ANY effect on AP rates is if Disney is successful in achieving desired occupancy rates with the bookings they get by offering these discounts. AP resort rates are a great benefit when available. Unfortunately, many people have come to 'expect' them. The way I have always viewed AP resort discounts is that they are a nice perk to offer to a loyal group of guests IF Disney has excess inventory that they need to move. No excess inventory, no AP rates.I think the wide availability of code rates may be the reason there are no special AP rates. There have been so many different codes for the time period, plus Florida resident rates, plus post card rates that have been out for some time.
What people have booked and where they actually stay can be two entirely different things. Disney knows that and it would be a mistake to not offer AP discounts on this basis. Last month when I called about AP rates the CM suggested I make a reservation with a code at a higher rate so that we had a room held. She knew I was unlikely to use that reservation if an AP discount did not become available.Maybe they cross referenced AP holder names with current reservations and found that a large percentage of people already had rooms booked.
I agree. Of course that creates a dilemma for us. I REALLY don't want to spend $300+ a night for the GF should an AP discount not become available. I have no intention of paying that much. Of course the boss.................er...............ah............I mean my DW has other ideasIf someone reserves a room with the intention of cancelling if discounts don't come out, all it really does is artificially increase the rate of occupancy. The higher the occupancy rate, the fewer the discounts.
