Does anyone know if the closet rod in the AB rooms is attached to a flat shelf? I wasn't sure how else I could phrase that.

If by that you mean is there a shelf above the closet rod, the answer is yes. It was great for storing sweatshirts and jeans that would have otherwise taken up too much room in the drawers.

If you don't mind me asking, if the price is roughly the same what would you find about Pop that would entice you there over POR? (except maybe the single bus stop?)

Andre

Oh no problem:goodvibes, well POP gives off that happy colorfull Disney feeling(its the best way I can discribe it) with all Its bigger then life Icons and just over all happy feeling. The Bus Issues are a wash for me,yes POP has the one bus but with the amount of people getting on at the end of the night, and most of the stops being further away then all the others!.The only real bus issue I would have If we did not get a room with in walking distance to the main building at POR. I would not want to catch a bus at the outer stops. Just something I like about catching the bus there. With the boat going to DTD,theres nothing like takeing the boat back at night.
So For me I love the pictures of the old south with there Mansions and swamps groweing up. So for me I love the surroundings and the river flowing through the property.
Room wise, here Is a Issue for me, I am a golfer, when i bring my clubs down there is not that much room to store my clubs at POP, then at POR, its bigger. At POR,it can be a further walk to the main building with my clubs then at POP. You see this constant nit picking!!:sad2:. Ok In a perfect world Disney would merge POP and POR together. Sorry POR Dis I did not mean to barge in here with POP talk,I will quit now thank you:goodvibes

I'm currently booked at POFQ but I am considering a change to POR for my upcoming vacation in August.

Just so that I have all the correct information if I do change resorts.....
Does anyone know what constitutes a river view room in Magnolia Bend? Is it just the front rooms right next to the walking path? or does it also include the rooms which are set waaaaaaaay back..........which I consider to be more of a courtyard view than a river view. I think that I would be very disappointed if I paid for a river view room but could only see the river with binoculars!:sad2: My idea of a river view is right on the river. Does anyone have any information or experience with this?

Yes, I had a riverview room for the first time this past year - usually I do water view and like to be close to the pool.

My room was on the first floor, corner king bed room in Parterre Place. However, the person next to me had a somewhat obstructed view, because the stairs were in the way.

So while getting a riverview room, you are not always getting an unobstructed view of the river - there may be a tree or stair in front of your room in you are on the lower floor.

Thinking of staying at POR over Christmas. :scared1: I know it will be crowded but will I be waiting hours for a bus or do they plan for the crazy crowds?

I'd say the worst of your crowd problems will be in the parks, which will be manic.

The resorts often run at pretty-much full capacity anyway, so I'd guess the amount of people coming and going to the resorts won't be any worse than any other busy time of the year.

But remember that at any busy time, you're going to find long lines if you exit any of the parks at the same time as the masses (e.g. straight after Wishes or Illuminations).

I have a trip booked 11/27 - 12/3, requested king, river view, mansions. Any thoughts on our chances of getting a refurbished room? I'm not worried about location as we don't mind walking and we'll probably have a rental car.

This is my second trip to POR but the last one was in the 90s. I'm so looking forward to going back about several trips to CSR and the Poly. I've always loved the looks of POR.

This is a great thread with lots of wonderful info - thanks Andre and others!

We have reservations for Alligator Bayou in September (family of five). I read how POR is being rehabbed, but they won't get to AB til after we are there. I was wondering if these rooms are especially dirty since I imagine that these rooms are being used by families with little kids (and we all know how kids can be!). I think I can handle a little mess, but just wondering if anyone had any recent experience with these rooms. I did go with the preferred room, but I doubt that will change anything regarding the cleanliness. I get so worried when I read reviews on Trip Advisor and other sites. Thanks for any info.

Please don't forget that the reviews you read on those sites do not represent the thousands of visits by guests who have no such problem.
It's always the squeaky wheel that people notice most.
We have stayed there every September since 2003, and never had an issue with cleanliness. or Mousekeeping.

I was there last October and our room was spotless. Yes it was in need of a new carpet but everything was perfect. No cracked anything around in our room. It was perfect for us, so much so that I have booked another trip for this May and possibly August.

That sounds awesome! I would love to go twice a year!

we stayed in ab in 2205, 2008, and 2009 during every visit we had at por. we were in buildings 17, 16, and 14. each trip the rooms were spotless. mousekeeping did an amazing job! on two out of the three visits i brought family members who are obsessed neat freaks. they were even amazed about how well the staff kept everything clean. por is our favorite resort! we loved staying there. you are going to have a wonderful time!!!

I just booked POR for Christmas 2011 so I will be reading this thread frequently! I'm trying to stay from the bad reviews so they won't scare me away! I requested a newly rennovated room. Crossing my fingers! :worship:
If I survived ASmovies (cute resort) in October 2010, I think I can survive (and love) POR!

I want to book POR for our honeymoon in November!! :cool1:

How is the transportation such as the buses? Is there one bus stop that will likely be less crowded than others?

We want a king size bed, not a far walk to a bus stop, and a great river view. Is this possible?

Thanks for everyone' help!!

Hoping I love the POR as much as you all seem too. Just booked 5 nights in June with the kids play free deal. This is our 2nd trip to WDW (we are West Coast so we usually do DL). We stayed at AKL and BC last trip as a family of 4, but now as a family of 5 those won't work with our budget.

We currently have a preferred room reserved, but can still downgrade to standard. Do you guys think the preferred room is worth an additional $28 a night? Is the resort that big that it is worth it to pay to be close to the bus stops, food court and pools? FWIW, proximity to those things is way more important to me than view.

Depends on how averse you are to walking really. POR is quite big and a bit rambling (unlike Caribbean Beach which is very big, but at least doesn't ramble!). Preferred rooms are located in the closest four Lodges out of 16 in the Alligator Bayou section, and are all within five minutes walk from the food court.

That said, unless you're travelling at a very busy time of year, or checking in very late in the day, even with a non-preferred room you can always ask at the front desk for somewhere closer if you're not happy. There are plenty of lovely rooms on the river-side areas of the Mansion Buildings which are very nicely located but less expensive, if you can get one (you don't have to get an actual river-facing room, one of the ones just to the side would still be great).

For my money, if I was paying for Preferred, I'd probably stump up the extra few bucks and get River View, virtually all of which are going to be fairly short walking distances and the views from outside your window are gorgeous (and yes, you can still enjoy the views even if there are exterior walkways).

You will pay for a king size bed room.

You will pay for a riverview room.

You can request being close to a bus stop.
