The New And Improved Space Mountain

I just went on DL Space Mt for the first time last weekend and WOW! I loved it! My first rollercoaster ride was only 3 years ago (BTMRR in DL) after being too chicken the first 26 years of my life. This trip I decided I needed to do Space and I'm so glad I did. The music... I loved it! Speaking of it, do you know if you can buy an MP3 file of the song anywhere online?

I have a question for you. I love Space Mountain & R&RC (it's dark inside!) & BTMRR but I HATE heights! I won't do ToT & I absolutely detested EE. How do you think I'd do on California Screamin?

I loved EE but I hate ToT. Not a fan of height either. One good thing about Screamin' is that the tallest lift hill doesn't go super slow like on a lot of coasters. You go pretty fast for part of the way up. I usually just look straight ahead. And if you aren't in the front car you can't see a whole lot. I'd also recommend sitting on the right side (so if you're facing foward...who ever is with you is to your left.) The stairs are on the right for a lot of the ride (including the big lift hill) so for me it's a little less scary. I'd say give it a chance...you can always close your eyes or just look straight ahead on the high up parts. I actually hated the ride the first time but LOVED it every time after that....after I knew I wasn't going to pass out on it...haha.

You could also search youtube for on-ride videos of it. I watched those a lot beforehand.

I rode all the rides last weekend, EXCEPT California screamin'--too much for me. I'm not a coaster fan either, but I love the theming at Disney and that my family can all ride together. And I trust their safety. Others, I don't trust completely. LOVE,Love, love, Space Mtn. and the music!!!

Disneyland sells an album of music you can hear around Disneyland. The Space Mountain theme is on there. You should be able to find it on Amazon. I don't think you'll be able to find the individual tracks on iTunes or anything but it's worth a look.

I picked up the older album that had the previous Dick Dale Space Mountain track on it.

I enjoy both but I can picture the ride while listening to the new soundtrack better.

I so agree with that statement!! I have no desire to ride any coasters at the local theme park. I think Disney sets up everything so well that you're immersed in the theming... you actually feel like you are going through space or on a train on everest. More of an total experience than just standing in line for an hour to just ride a coaster.

Does anybody remember the old Dick Dale ride music? I put it on my ipod once and rode it with the old soundtrack. I forgot just how lame it was.

I loved the old Dick Dale surf guitar music! I don't care for the new soundtrack - it just seems like generic space music.

Thanks. I did check out youtube last night and I'm still on the fence about it. I most likely won't decide what to do until the last moment!

I decided one day "I am going to go on Screamin." So we go over there and there's pretty much no line - no time to chicken out. As soon as I got in and put the harness on...I started freaking out and almost crying..."i don't wannna go! I don't wanna go!" I really thought the CM would let me out...but then the ride started moving. I screamed bloody murder the whole time...haha. "I hate this! I hate this!" But then when we got off I said..."I think I want to go again." I did. And I LOVED it.

Don't know how it is now, but when I rode it, it was very fast and then all of a sudden at the end it comes to a screeching halt! I felt like my brain was banging on the inside of my skull! I had a major headache the rest of the day after that even though I took Ibuprofen. After that I said never again!
A few months later I read about the Neurologist that lost his ability to do surgery from a brain injury he suffered while riding that ride. Thank goodness that didn't happen to me. I wonder if that was ever resolved and what the outcome was?
I heard they've since slowed down the end a little so it's not such an abrupt, head banging experience.

I feel bad for laughing because of the "real" surgeon, but man that was funny Hydro.
I wonder though if he already had an issue, Screamin is one of the smoothest roller coasters I've ever been on. BTMRR is much jerkier than Screamin...as is Matterhorn.

I LOVE BTMRR and Matterhorn -- 2 of my favorite rides! I agree CS is very smooth -- until the end...: It wasn't the ride that gave me the headache -- it was he screeching halt at the end! My son said the end of the ride is different now; not as abrupt. Did they change it? It's one of his favorite rides.

hmm...i just have a hard time believing that you could get a brain injury from california screamin'. maybe i'm crazy. but you can't get a brain injury that easily, can you?? maybe he didn't keep his head back like you're supposed to or something? i don't get it.

That's why I was thinking maybe there was some prior medical condition??
I always worry I'm going to hit heads with the person next to me on Indy. I feel like I really stiffen up on that ride for some reason. But love it none the less.

Sounds like somebody trying to do what has been done a million times before. Sue WDC! No way CS results in brain injury... ridiculous. If that person or anybody else (jncluding myself) has brain damage it wasn't from that ride.

Go on it at night like I did! Makes things much much easier.
