The NCIS Official Thread

Well, I can get a little busy..you guys have to keep me posted. I'm currently deployed to Iraq---yes NCIS Agents do deploy to Iraq, for four months at a time--so we don't get network TV. We get the shows, but AFN is hard to explain unless you've experienced it...

Just once I'd like to see them do paperwork on one of the cases---and I'm a firearms instructor, and I want to see an "after action" darn it...:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Besides the paperwork thing, how accurate do you think the show is?

I remember when McGee first started, Tony told him about the first time he did paperwork for Gibbs, and how Gibbs made him do it over. ;)

Keep safe! We want to keep hearing from you. :thumbsup2

If you guys can wait a couple months---I leave for home late November, will be back in the office round mid December, I can get some hats...they're not overly fancy, but we don't wear "overly fancy";)

Anyway, the original episodes of JAG and NCIS were based "very loosely" on actual NCIS cases. If you have expanded Cable, and get the Military Channel or Discovery ID, there's a show out there called "The Real NCIS", which follows real Agents and real cases---also a show out there called Recon, Military CSI..I've been on both of shows <<No autographs please--just kidding>> ......

In regard to the CBS show, they show a lot more "Field Work" than three Agents would normally do. ****Usually****, and this is very dendent on the office you're assigned to, there's a whole team of Agents (called the Major Case Response Team--MCRT--it's on the side of the "ambulance-van" in the show) that crawls all over the scene. Sometimes it is only three agents.

I used to be the MCRT Leader at Southeast Field Office (Mayport, NAS JAX in Jacksonville, FL and Submarine Base Kings Bay, GA), but was assigned to Kings Bay--which was a smaller office. Mayport and NAS JAX usually had 5 or 6 guys on call for the team, I may have only 3 at Kings Bay...it just depended. Big offices like Norfolk and Camp Lejeune...they have more...

The show also focuses on a team from DC that launches to other offices--that doesn't happen, cases are handled within the Geographic Responsibility of the individual Field Offices (except in extreme circumstances)...

However, in order to have a good show, the "fly away team" concept is the way to go, and the writers do and EXCELLENT job of portraying intra squad dynamics, which can be...."interesting"...

I think they do a decent job getting the nuts and bolts of what we do, though sometimes the show more friction with the FBI than actually exists, one of my best friends is my FBI counterpart....and I turned down the FBI b/c I didn't want the pay cut to move to San Francisco--we all handle ourselves in a professional manner (usually--exept when my counterpart is wrong--which is most of the time:lmao::lmao:)

They don't show the hours of tedious paperwork that's involved, or the administrative burden general law enforcement entails, but ratings would pretty much drop if they did:scared1::scared1:

We also don't shoot as much...thank God, or I'd be in Admin hearings all the time:lmao:

Unfortunately, there is no Abby---though I know the inspiration for her character quite well---and they're pretty much dead in line--except for the tattoos--and no advanced lab. We used to have our own labs, but shut them down to use the U.S. Army Criminal Investigative Lab in Atlanta---though we have just decided to "restart" our labs...

I'll be happy to talk about what I do (or what I'm allowed to say) if you guys want, but I dont' want to bore you and I think you get the picture....

Just remember that to work the cases they work--there's some SERIOUS paperwork to go along with it--just like it was when I was a local Detective.

Oh yeah, I've made guys do reports over again, too---they really love that.

And, uh.....I outrank Gibbs....LOL:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Great info, DisneyFed! I think I have those channels...I'll have to check out those shows.

Hey DisneyFed! My DH was a Navy spook for 30 years. Do you guys sit there and say "They can't do that, thats not real" all the time? He has a permanent black and blue mark from me elbowing him everytime we watch something "military"! I must have missed the NCIS LA thing, don't know how that happened. :confused3 Stay safe DisneyFed! Anchors away and all that stuff!

Funny how the show is NCIS LA...and we don't have an LA office anymore:confused::confused: Oh well, Hollywood..

I was wrong about the Military CSI show...it can be found on the Pentagon Channel Website (Pentagonchannel.com)...

Click on the Show "Recon" then bring up the episode "Military CSI"...I'm the guy in the black shirt, white NCIS hat at ATF Post Blast training...all the guys and my wife say I did OK...I think I'm a dork...:sad2::sad2:

From what I've read NCIS:LA happened as a title ONLY because they couldn't think of anything else for it. I think I read 2 or 3 different working titles last yr. And this is what we got.

My dad is spitting mad that he doesn't have these channels. He would kill to see the Real NCIS. I have them but not the Pentagon channel, but haven't seen the show yet. Usually when it comes on I'm either online Dissing or in bed LOL.

Like I said...Hollywood, right?

Anyway, you can find the Pentagon Channel show online on their website....and I forgot to add the "Recon" show shows part of our HROTP...one of the Agents (who plays the role of the Convoy Commander) works for me...:thumbsup2

www.pentagonchannel.com

Click on "Shows", then "Recon" then June 2009 "Military CSI"...enjoy!!

I think you are fascinating, DisneyFed, and I'm sure everyone else agrees..

Can you tell us about the inspiration for Abbey's character?

I agree!

My son in law leaves for Al Asad tomorrow from Camp Lejeune on his second Iraq tour. He may then be sent to Camp Korean Village. Al Asad looks like it has more creature comforts. Am I right?

Cool!

I was introduced to this show at a friends house. I started watching it and now I'm hooked. I have missed a ton of episodes and get confused when they go from having Kate to Ziva instead, but I love it. The writing is great.

Thanks for all the info...I work for a police dept (not an officer) and I know some of the stuff they just can't do but it's great TV.

I would, personally, love to hear anything you can tell us.

Thanks for joining us and again, stay safe!! :goodvibes

Can you tell us about the inspiration for Abbey's character?

I agree! :) I'd also love to hear about Abby's inspiration as well, if you can share anything. Abby is my favorite character... well, Abby and Gibbs. :thumbsup2

Anyway... I'm so glad you are posting, DisneyFed!

You better be careful what you offer. You may not realize that you have 229,870 new DIS friends. ;)

one of my fav episodes was at Halloween when they went into a party and the hosts laughs and says

Great customs - too bad you spelt it wrong

NCIS vs CSI

LOL

I didn't know there was an NCIS thread! :yay: And it has it's own NCIS agent, even better!

:lmao:

Absolutely, of course, we don't count, it was already promised. ;)

The desert heat does weird things to your judgement:rolleyes::lmao:

In regard to Abbey's inspiration---I won't name her, but she was the head of our Lab in Norfolk...She's brilliant---absolutely brilliant...has forgotten more about forensics than most people will ever know...she's also a little--out there. Not in Goth way, Pauly took that and ran with her own character, and she does an EXCELLENT job, but in her own way, she's super OCD and incredibly detail oriented, and I've had to say "...... tell me like I'm a 3rd greater" beacause that's what I felt like when I took a class she taught...like a 3rd grader:lmao::lmao:

Also, whoever asked I've been out to Korean Village, it's on the border---and yeah, much more amenities at Al Asad---they don't call it Camp Cupcake for nothing:lmao::lmao:

My other deployments have been rather Spartan...I have pictures posed on the Dis Dad's forum...this one has been rather nice, and not what I'm used to:lmao:

Kurby, my favorite was a Halloween episode, too, but I can't remember if they are the same one. I loved when Abby dressed up like Marilyn Monroe and the boys couldn't get any work done!

How neat to have a real agent here!

My favorite episodes are "SWAK", "SMOKED", AND "BLOODBATH". I like the end of the Halloween episode too, when the mom beat the he double hockey sticks out of the woman accomplice. I think the first 3 are great character driven episodes. I love when Gibbs and Ducky reconcile. I also like the little asides that reference the past roles of the regulars.

DisneyFed, do you know a "Ducky" in the real NCIS? And just so you know, I love to know about the real NCIS too. And I would love a hat if it is possible.

Didn't was through 22 pages so this might have been answered already, but:

We never watch any show when it's in its original run - in fact we haven't watched anything "on television" in a very long time. But we watch what we get into on DVD. So, for example, earlier this year we watched all of the episodes from the original Wild Wild West show - incredibly good show from the 60's. We then went on to watch all of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - apart from its last shortened season, it wasn't as good as the Wild Wild West, but still a great old show. We saw a couple of episodes of NCIS with my parents this summer because of the David McCallum connection. So now have bought the DVD's of NCIS and will watch it "in order" as my wife insists on doing. But, the problem is she would like to see the original 2 JAG episodes that introduced the NCIS premise - but we don't want to buy that whole season of JAG. Haven't been able to find another legal way to watch those (apart from a very long waiting list at the library). Any suggestions (a long shot I know - I think I need to convince her just to buy the whole season. We've wasted more money than that in an afternoon at EPCOT - can't see that it's a huge deal). :p
