It's funny that you post this, because we suddenly got an email from our director of operations about a week ago, reminding us about the dress code. It's not very specific, but everyone is irritated that he's so concerned about it. Nobody has ever worn anything objectionable...

So today I'm wearing my Converse. A couple of the CADD guys have continued to wear sneakers, and my boss is wearing sneakers today...

I take it you work with the public? I think that's why it's not really a huge issue for us; we don't work with the public. Our code does say "not recommended," but everyone wears them anyway.

Actually I don't work with the public. I do work in HR for a huge pharmaceutical company so I have to be professional. Probably why I am so "unprofessional" online.
