To sign up. Please forgive if someone else already posted this, I just signed up last night. Its a step in the right direction IMHO...whatever it takes to get those calls to stop coming into my house. :) Sign up is free and while not 100% effective on all telemarketers, it will start stoping most. :)
The National Do not Call Registry

zurg registered us last night.....

Thanks for the link:D

I'm waiting for an e-mail since last night too.

I have not gotten mine back either yet...I would bet the system is swamped, I saw it on CNN.com

My dh signed us up as soon as he read the paper yesterday morning at about 5AM!!!!! Had no problems at that hour!!!!:D

I registered yesterday, at about 7am EST, I got my email verification at 11:40pm. It takes a while, but it get's there. My question is, since it allows banks to call, will this include Mortgage Brokers? They are the biggest annoyance, I get at least 4 calls a day from various mortgage companies.

I got the e-mail for the second attempt , I didn't add my cell phone numbers and now I only have the house phone on the list, now I have to wait on the e-mails for the cell phone numbers.

I just registered as well.

I think this is one of the best things that has happened in a long while!

We have had a state "no call" list for almost a year now, and it has almost competely eliminated calls. I think maybe one or two have slipped through in many months. This is a good service.:D

What?!? You think so? LOL

They are taking somethink like 1000 numbers a second.

Now can we do something with Spam?

I signed up at about 12:00 am Eastern the first day, got my 3 emails but Yahoo puts them in the Junk Mail folder. Your email may have been filtered by your ISP. If it has been, and you didn't catch it in a junk folder, you have to register again, because until you click on the link in the email, you are not on the list. Good luck! And BTW who ever buys anything from a telematketer? I have not and no one I knows has etier. I understand that it is a living wage for a lot of people, but when I want something, I generally do the research and decision making on my own, not because someone reading a script with out taking a breath has called me.

I registered last night and responded to the emails this morning when I woke up.

Thanks Patrick! I took care of our phone numbers as well as my dad's. I feel for the people having to make a living this way. I always try to be polite and just say "no, thank you." The other day the lady on the other end sounded so deflated, I felt bad for her. One of these days, I'm going to get the guts to ask one of them how often do they get a "yes, I'm interested."

I had to laugh - I saw the article about this on the Mpls StarTribune's website, and it made reference to the fact that some of the telemarketing companies want to sue the FTC for this, that the law will have a negative impact on the industry. My first thought was, well DUH!! That's the whole point!!

When will these companies understand that people do not want to be bothered all day by solicitors with products we don't want? If I want to refinance my mortgage, I'll call you. Don't call me!! I would never do business with a company that uses telemarketing, since they obviously do not value me as a customer since they are willing to harass me.

They also said that it is restricting their free speech. Puh-leeze. What a laugh - considering all this is doing is giving consumers a voice to say "I don't want to be bothered by these annoying calls!!"

Pooh,
I was a telemarketer for about 2 weeks for my University's Alumni Association. It was suprising just how many people were willing to donate over the phone. It was the Association's most effective form of solicitation. Having said this, it was the worst job I have ever had! The one good thing I learned is how to deal with telemarketers when they call me. Just politely say no thank-you and sak to be taken off their call list. Then by law they can never call you again. This national no call list is a much better way to deal with the problem though.
