My family and I love all things Universal. Trouble is, we live in VA and have not been to Orlando since 2003 or 2004. The Mummy was not there then. We are returning in November with extended family, including Grandma, 80. Tell me about ROTM, its theming, the ride itself, and whether you think a youngish 80 year old woman will enjoy it.

Thanks

I dunno about your grandma, I would say if she is a thrill seeker and adventurer yeah, but if she is laid back and only likes the merry go round type rides I'd say no. It does get pretty fast, but its very smooth.

Its a great ride, probably the best ride at the old park. You can look at it on Youtube, but the ones I've seen don't do it justice as what you will experience in person.

YOu kind of start out moving into a tomb. It looks like you are in the bowels of an ancient pyrimid or something. The animatronics are great. One is a mummy/skeleton type guy that comes out of a coffin, he is very complex and moves very realistically, the only downside to him is he breaks down quite a bit. There are other animatronics and stuff as well.

This one is kind of hard to describe. But they did a great job in making a really scary ride, kinda like bringing the movie experience to life. Its probably the best "dark" ride in existence IMO. Can't get enough of it when we're there. And it has some great coaster apsects to it as well, very fast and smooth towards the end. Its a great ride all around. You'll love it.

It is rollercoaster. Period. It doesn't go upside down or barrel roll, but it is fast (think Space Mountain...only faster i think). Anyhows, you board and start out very slow....leisurly pace because you are entering the tomb and there is lots to look at (a "show" if you will). Then, you go around the corner (a bit faster) into another "show" area. Then, you dip backwards into another "show" area. Then, you "shoot" up the hill and the "coaster ride in the dark" part is happening. You will temporarily stop ("show" part again), but then continue a tiny bit further on the "coaster" part again. Again, youtube recommended....but, it IS a coaster (just starts out slow [preshow] and goes into the ride).

Agree with the other posters and what they have said, although i do not think its that smooth , can be a bit jerky , but then thats my opinion

oh yea...I'd agree...not completely smooth....bit jerky is right....(sometimes I have so much fun, I forget! :headache: )

I would be a little afraid of the "mild whiplash" like jerks. You know when you get to the part where the glass crashes (right before they take your picture); some cars stop suddenly there - causing my head to snap back. Doesn't do it all the time, but enough to be aware of.
It is my favorite ride though!!

Awesome. Thyanks for the quick responses. Maybe not the best for the eldest of our group...though she is quite a trooper! I didn't realize it had coaster elements. Thought it was more "Spiderman" than Space Mountain.

Eight weeks (plus a little) and Counting!

We just came back from US and all agreed that the Mummy was a great ride. Both my sister (42) and I (45) and my mom (71) are ride chickens and we did it. My mom loved it!

Well sorry I didn't include the kinda whiplash thing. That part is a little jerky, but overall as far as coasters go, I call it one of the smoothest, other than those quick stops and start parts that do the whiplash effect.

this will sound really lame - but I don't like being scared if I'm on my own!! DH will have to look after the two kids - will I enjoy it or will it scare me too much!!! (Put it this way, I am someone who left HHN after 1/2 an hour because I was a nervous wreck!!)

thanksa lot!!:thumbsup2

Personally I think the roughest part happens when you come down from the airtime. Riding in the back, I have near about thrown my back out!

I have never been to HHN but have heard a lot about it and have seen the documentary about it, judging from the fact that HHN looks like the best most high tech and scariest haunted houses on the planet, I'm doubting that the Mummy is nearly as scary. It is a little scary, but just kind of like horror movie scary. I'm thinking you'll be ok, its a great great ride, if in doubt you should at least try it once. Almost 89% of all riders survive and their souls are not actually taken by the Mummy!;)

Great ride, smooth and jerky at the same time and I will agree w/ inkkognito, almost threw my back out yet rode it like 6 more times :cool1:

The Mummy is very fast, and it goes backwards which can bother some people. It stops fast, which may cause some jerkiness, but to me the ride itself is smooth = it doesn't jar my head like some coasters. It's great, scary fun!

I'm kind of a roller coaster wimp, and I rode this ride. It was great!:thumbsup2
