Although I have seen this movie dozens of times over the past 18 years, I never really noticed this before. Is the last baby that is born to Steve Martin (the one shown at the end while everyone is in the hospital waiting room) supposed to have Down Syndrome? They show her briefly two times, and her facial features look like she may have.

Just curious.:goodvibes

I admit I've never thought that in all the times I have watched it. I don't ever recall hearing that in the story line either. Doesn't matter to me one way or the other, but it's not something I ever recall thinking.

I don't remember hearing anything about that but there was something that always bothered me. The sister Julie got pregnant before Steve Martin's character's wife did. (I think I did the math a while ago...very bored..and I think it was by a couple of months) At the hospital that baby looked like it was a couple of months old and Julies was a newborn

I never noticed either thing - but isn't this just one of the best 80's (maybe it was early 90's) movies? I always recommend this to new parents or expecting parents to watch. This and "She's Having a Baby" with Kevin Bacon and "Nine Months" with Hugh Grant. All 3 are hilarious!

I never heard about it in the story line, either. But I was watching it a few hours ago and happened to really look at the baby. I just thought that it would be an interesting addition to the story line (expecially since they showed the baby just like they showed all of the other people in that scene - and no big deal was made of it).:goodvibes

I am going to have to go back and watch it again. If the baby had Down's Syndrom it could have very well been written into the story and later edited out. The movie was pretty long and they have a million and one stories going on. I have seen many movies that made more sense when I got to see the deleted scenes.

I just remember Joaquin Phonenix was in it under a different name.

I saw the movie many many mannnnnnnnny times. I never noticed this.

But when checking some of the triva facts for this on IMB..found this.

The movie was filmed in Central and Northern Florida. The shopping center where the photo booth is standing is in College Park, Florida. The photo booth was constructed for the movie. The Showbiz pizza is located in Altamonte Springs, Florida and is still there, except it is now, like all Showbiz pizzas, Chuck-E-Cheese. Kevin's birthday party was filmed at The Mystery Fun House in Orlando, Florida.

When Gil and Karen are riding in the van prior to the crash, they are driving on Kirkman Road in Orlando, Florida.

If they were filming in Florida, it was probably the only small "newborn" baby they could hire for filming that day.

What is the name under??

favorite quotes, "This is my son, Cool"

Steve Martin to wife refering to her being pregnant,"Let's have a dozen and call them doughnuts!"

He used to go by Leaf Phoenix. I'm not sure which one is his actual name.

This is a great movie and I've seen it many times. It's set in STL which I thought was cool because that rarely happens. I never noticed anything about the baby.

Very cool, never knew that!

His birth name was Joaquin Rafael Bottom. He changed his own name to Leaf when he was little because he wanted an earthy name like his brother River and sister Rain. The family changed their last name to Phoenix as they travelled around the world.

I love Parenthood.

The baby looked ok to me. In fact, she reminded me of my gf's son when he was a baby. They both had the same eyes and mouth, and he doesn't have DS.
