DH, DS16, and I just watched this movie and boy what a tear-jerker it turned into!! It started out sort of funny (stupid-funny) and then completely changed. When he went back in time to see the last time he saw his father alive...good grief, I thought I was going to start sobbing out loud! LOL

Did anyone else feel this way about this movie, or is this just me being overly hormonal today??? :confused3

It was so sad at times. You are not overly emotional.

Adam Sandler is at a point where he can't just be stupid-funny anymore. I just love his past few movies. I really want to see the one that just came out w/ Don Cheadle. I don't think it did well at the box office though.

I thought that it was supposed to be funny too. I was in the mood for a good Adam Sandler comedy and it definitely wasn't.

I agree. It seems like the previews were made to depict it as a comedy, but it's really not. It has a good message, and I'm glad I saw it, but I do think it should be known in advance that it's not really a comedy. Sometimes, I'm just in the mood for something silly -- especially if I've had enough stress for the day. LOL! So, seeing something like this when you think it's going to be something else can be a bit of a downer, although it is a good movie.

Very sad. Even watching it a second or third time I cried...My DD8 also cries each time, but loves the movie:confused3

I was also prepared for a funny Adam Sandler movie because that is basically how it was promoted.

However, I was crying by the end of the movie - the part where the kids are getting in the car to leave and he is trying to get their attention -oh I was just about bawling here!

In the end though, I was pleasantly surprised by this movie and I think I like it even better than his usual comedy schtick.

Thanks for the replies. :)

I like Adam Sandler as an actor, I think he did a great job in the dramatic scenes in this movie. I know that his real father died a few years back so I don't imagine he'd have to work too hard to bring some genuine emotion to those scenes.

I just didn't expect it to get as dramatic as it did.

Great job casting Christopher Walken as the angel of death. lol

P.S. I STILL love Henry Winkler!!!

I saw it when it came out last year and I felt the same way. But, I also thought it was really good, just WAY more depressing that I was expecting!

I saw the movie on a flight. I was trying to hide my tears. I thought it was a great movie. Adam Sandler did a wonderful job acting.

My sister and I saw it when it was in theaters last summer and we both cried. It's a great movie. I was really impressed by how well Adam can do drama. I really wanted to see Reign Over Me, but didn't have time to get to the movie theater while it was still there

No, you're not the only one. I was expecting this funny movie and after watching, I thought it was more of a depressing movie than funny.

Wow from the descriptions I should go rent this movie.

From these descriptions, I think I need to re-rent it! :confused3 I got bored halfway through and let DH finish it without me. It's not that it wasn't a comedy - I don't usually care for Adam Sandler's humor (only like Happy Gilmore) - it just didn't seem to be going anywhere with the plot.

I rarely cry at movies and cried a lot in that one. That scene where he goes back and watches himself with his dad??? Bawled my eyes out.

Didn't care for the fart jokes or the dog sex, but you get that with Adam Sandler movies.

I don't know why people were surprised to find it wasn't all comedy. MANY Adam Sandler movies have pulls on the heartstrings. And they have happy endings. I really like most of his movies. :)

I thought it was a really good movie and bought a copy. Watching at home didn't have quite the same impact.

Henry Winkler was amazing, too.

My friends and I got this for our other friends Sweet 16, she loves Adam and we made her this huge "Adam says have a Super Sweet 16" basket

She hadnt seen it yet so we watched

It was just us at her house b/c we did our own thing separate from her party and the 3 of us were BALLING our eyes out. Her mom came down and we were sobbing.. she just laughed.

Though we did agree it was really good and we were really surprised about how he handled the dramatic scenes.

We followed it up with some classic SNL Adam (opera man!!)

Adam Sandler, he is a great Actor, and Comedian too. My favorite all time Sandler movie is: 50 first Dates, funny and sad at the same time!;) I could watch that movie and others by him, over and over again, he and Drew make a great acting team too!:thumbsup2

That scene got to me too! (where he kept replaying the scene with his father, in his office).

I thought the dog scenes were a bit over the top, and overplayed, too.

I wasn't surprised to find that it wasn't all comedy, I was just surprised at just how dramatic it became in parts. I thought it was actually a well-done movie, for the most part.

Yes, Henry Winkler is a great actor. I was a teenager and big Fonzie fan in the 70's, and when I finally got to see the real person behind the character, I was quite surprised at the personality difference! Now THAT was acting! LOL

Henry Winkler and Ron Howard seem to be very respected in the Hollywood community and from what I've always seen about them, they are devoted family men. Good for them :)

Hello Auntie SeaSpray! :cutie:

I had NO clue about that part of the movie. So one night we sat & watched it, and I went from laughing the whole beginning, to being ready to jump off a bridge!!! :confused3 I didn't expect that...and wasn't too thrilled about it being there either! lol :sad2: Ah but what can ya do? Life, and the movie, went on! :upsidedow

I love Adam Sandler movies and this is one of my favorites! But I definitely still cry EVERYTIME I see it. Especially the part with his dad...where he tries to tell him he loves him and he's ignoring him...that part gets me to the point where I'm practically sobbing :sad2:
