The most unbudget thing you did...

Disney related-the race retreat for the Princess half-marathon. Oh I wasn't running the half-marathon, my sister was, but I got the race retreat for myself too!

Non-Disney, every single time I go into Sephora. :rolleyes1

And :grouphug:for some of the previous posters who have gone through such sad times..

Oh gosh, MissBrooke06.. I did NOT intend for my previous post to sound like I was one-upping your loss! I just reread it and hope that wasn't how you took it. I am truly sorry for your loss, I regret that anyone has to become a member of that "club" as well.
Beth:(

Disney related - buying gifts for DH while visiting. I never buy anything for myself but in the past few visits have purchased him a gold watch, polo shirts, car accessories, etc. It brings me joy to get him little surprises!

Real life - shoes and purses but I took relief in knowing I am not the only one. My one redemption is that for the past 20 years I had saved for my kids college and used a purse until it fell apart, had 4 pair of shoes (you get the idea) but once oldest graduated and youngest became a senior LOOK OUT...I don't have a purse and shoe closet I have a purse and shoe ROOM and everything is higher end. I do wait for sales but it isn't unusual for me to buy 5 pair at a good sale or a couple purses. I guess I figure it is repayment for all of those years of living frugally.:rotfl2:

No worries! I took it as "You are not alone" which is a sad thought but comforting as well.

We bought tickets to the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City! You had to buy like a year in advance and pay in full -even before you had a place to stay- and you couldn't just get tickets to the events you wanted to see, you had to buy a 'package' that included other events...

I remember being scared to death we wouldn't find lodging or a rental car... But it all worked out and it was such an awesome trip! It was only a few months after 9-11 occurred and people from all nations were so friendly and fun - my DD was 9 at the time and we sat behind a big crazy group of people from Norway while seeing Chris Witty set a new world record in speed skating.

Priceless! (but not really!)

Our last WDW trip was very budget friendly (we drove down, stayed at Wyndham Bonnet Creek, used a few days on our 10 day no expire WP & more tickets, had gift cards for food) until:

1) My DH, who had to work that week, decided at the last minute to fly down and join us for two days.
2) He also decided to fly DD14 back with him so she would not miss a travel softball tournament.
3) Our plan to "snack around the world" at Epcot for dinner got rained out and DH chose to go to the Cape May Cafe seafood buffet for dinner instead. He LOVED it by the way!

The budget went out the window but having DH along for a couple of days was priceless!

"Honey omg look at those ones their only $498"

Hopefully I will never win the lottery because then it would be shoe house

mine was a forced overspend which I'm still bitter about. we got broken in to and had a lot of stuff stolen. things like my camera were top of the range when we brought them but as they were a few years old the insurance company worked out a much lower price. two iPods were stolen and the laptop. we had to pay to download some of the music. x box and Wii with went but insurance didn't cover the games in them, 1 was only two days old. urgh you get the picture. I had to find about £2000 to cover replacing all the things. I'm still bitter about it now!

2016 we're off to Disneyland and then san Diego for my mum's 60th. I have so much planned for her I'm already saving! I know it's going to be a big trip and it's going to cost me a fortune, I'm hoping to upgrade the room, have it decorated, book a tour and a few nice meals for her. she's 1 in a million and I want to show her how much I love her.

I also thought of another unbudget thing we have done after reading everyone else's posts.

Last time I wanted a car I asked Dh and got a cadillac CTS. VERY unbudget.

But I have had it now for 3 years and plan on driving it for years more. Until repairing it costs more than replacing it.

DVC! I don't regret it one little bit though! We are staying at better places on money that we were spending anyway. I love my DVC!!

Picked up the habit of going to Disney World 23 years ago. I thought once about how much I have spent over all those years - but it has been so worth it. IMHO. :)

I booked the royal room @ por instead of sticking w POP! We will c in a few wks if it was worth the budget cuts @ home these last few months lol

We stayed in the royal room last year and loved it! I have never stayed at the POP only moderates, so I can't compare, but the Royal room was very charming, but not too "girly". It was fun to look at all of the hidden touches, see the "magic carpet" on the carpet, the stool that looked like the "dog" foot stool from Beauty and the Beast, the Pictures of the princesses with their Princes etc.

I think you'll enjoy it!

Same here! Don't regret a penny we've spent at WDW!

Our non-budget trip was September, 2012. DD was turning 15, and we wanted to do something really special. DD us in marching band, so it's really hard to plan anything special in September, sure to football games and competitions. Her birthday was on a Saturday, so, we decided to do a one-day, surprise trip to MK. I spoke with her band director, and got permission for her to leave the football game after the halftime show, and filled her section leader in on the plan. I bought tickets and a one night stay at POP, and packed a bag for everyone without her knowing.

When the halftime show was over that night, I followed the band into the stands, waited for the drum major to give me the okay, then walked up to her and said "come on, we're leaving." Her section leader whipped a camera out of her jacket and DD said "where are we going?" and I told her, "we're going to MK for your birthday!" The look on her face was priceless! We ran to the band room, she changed out of her uniform and we were on our way! We had an awesome time! I had also made an ADR for crystal palace for lunch, and ordered a custom cake, so it was a truly magical birthday! It cost us almost $1000, but she's our only, and we're pretty frugal otherwise, so it was worth it.
