So I was talking to my friend who is a "big Disney fan". Or at least I thought so. She's taken her family about 4 times now and they are planning on going again next year (maybe). Well anyways, I told her I was going this year and asked if she had any tips. Well the first thing out of her mouth was... yeah, first off.... don't eat any of the food. Its expensive and a waste of time.

:sad1: What???:sad1:

To me, that was a crazy thing to say. First off, I love to eat out. I'm a foodie for sure. So it would be unheard of to skip meals that are suposed to be rave-worthy. Secondly... it made me realize right a way that she may have gone on several trips but the Magic wasn't in her. I truly love Disney. So I was shocked with the next couple of suggestions. Things to do when I get sick of all the Disney stuf.... ways to get around the rules..... and she listed a bunch of rides for me to skip because they're boring and stupid. These were rides I love (at Disneyland) because of the nostalgia. The tea cups, Small World, Tiki Room.

I don't know about yall but that kinda makes me sad. And... They invite us to go everytime because we are considered family. But I don't think we'll be going with them to WDW. I don't want her to steal my pixie.

Wow that's too bad. Everyone has their own way, but that sounds like she is missing out on a lot. If she doesn't eat the food, what do they eat?

Although I have to say that the Tiki room in WDW is such a let down if you like the one at Disneyland. I did the WDW version once and that was enough for me and the Tiki Room at Disneyland is one of my favourites!

They pack lunches and sneak them in. Like a bunch of sandwiches and a bag of chips. She told me to take a diaper bag and put them in the bottom under a blanket then walk in with my nephew's stroller. :rotfl2:

Oh, I didn't realize the Tiki Room was different. I love the Disneyland one. But I'll still have to check out the WDW version.

Ugh, how annoying. I feel for you. Sometimes I feel that people are just never happy with anything.

I would never tell someone to skip a ride. What I may not like someone else may love! I would just tell your friend "I will keep your advice handy" and do what your heart wants to do!

Wow, your friend sure sounds like a crab-apple. I would never go to Disney with someone with that attitude!

I love the food, some places are bad, but some places are GOOOD! Maybe she went to all the counter service places....? She obviously hasn't been to Artist Point!

Maybe your friend actually can't afford to buy the food if she has a family of 4 or more? Prices are a bit high, but many of the counter service meals have generouds portions and can easily be split between two people. Lots of people also do breakfasts in their hotel room to save $$$. But I can't imagine visiting a few days and NOT enjoying the ambiance and food for several lunches and dinners....especially with the great and unique food offerings at EPCOT!

Well your friend has her own way of experiencing Disney. But to be honest the food isn't all that great at most places. If you are staying on property it is hard not to eat the food there, and we did the dining plan which made it nice for us, and we didn't have to think about the price. But if you are paying out of pocket, it is expensive. (Not much cheaper with the dining plan, but at least you don't think about it then, since it's paid for already;) ) Some places had really good food, but most was just average, especially for the price.

I wouldn't let anyone tell me which rides to ride really. You can get suggestions, but when it comes down to it, I will ride what I want and make my own opinion.
Your friend just does things her own way, and it may not be your way, but she thinks she is giving you "good" adice, so just smile and say thanks.

These are the 2 most reasonable responses and I could not agree more.

Should never let the little things bother you, There are enough bigger things to contend with.

As jenseib said " just smile and say thanks."

We brought in little bags of snacks and have considered bringing in a sandwich for the kids or my dh if he gets crabby and we don't want to stop but we have never "snuck" it in....the security looks in all bags anyway and they don't care. I even saw people with rolling suitcases going through MGM when we were there 2 weeks ago and when they opened them they were full of food/drinks! I was amazed that people would actually want to haul stuff through the Florida heat! It was enough for me to push my kids in the stroller because they would have melted within an hour of stepping outside...what we won't do to get free dining!

Wow, that's my favorite part of a trip!! When I plan my days out, the first thing I think of is where we r going to eat!!! :woohoo: popcorn:: :mickeybar

Oh nooooooo :rotfl2:

THIS is definently NOT my friend. :) She is always getting at me for wearing "cheap clothes". See I shop a lot at thrift stores and love it. One day I was at her house and I had on a cute cartigan sweater with a monogram. She said "what does DWR stand for.... oh wait... thats not your sweater is it?" I giggled and said no it was a find. She started telling me about how I should treat myself to nice things and there was nothing wrong with nice clothes and nice jewelry (I don't wear a lot). I nicely explained that that was her way of treating herself. We both treat ourselves with nice make-up and such but I also get mani/pedis, and massages, and love my shoes fetish. Besides... the bargain hunting is the fun part. She smiled like I didn't get it. Dude.... I could never spend the money she does on her clothes. Most of which are "dryclean only" which I also don't get. Annnnd she spends a ton on her hair. I also can't do that.

Plus, I'm an eater. I love to go to resturants. I also love to shop and hit all the little stores. I'm itchin to get to Epcot. Or the World of Stores as I'm calling it! Yeah, we're just on different fields here.

they must not be experts if they don't know that they don't have to hide food. People can bring in almost anything except glass bottles/jars, and booze of any type. Families bring snacks, food, bottled beverages in all the time.

I am planning a trip to DisneyLand in 2009, and the first thing I am going to do is visit the Tiki Room and savor the old version. I hate the new one at WDW, it's a screech-fest and it's awful.

A girl after my own heart! I love thrift-shopping. I mainly buy my kids clothes at the thrift store (because I MOSTLY buy my KIDS clothes, PERIOD! :lmao: )

I was going to say.. there's no need to sneak the food in. Disney allows you to bring food and drink in, but I'm not sure about coolers. When we vacationed here when i was younger, we would almost always bring our own drinks if we were going to do quick service. Mom would sometimes pack a PBJ for DB because he was SUCH a picky eater when he was younger.

As for the tiki room, I'm not a huge fan, however it is a fantastic place to get out of the heat, rain, and/or wait for a fastpass to become valid.

Wow, your "friend" sure sounds like a negative and critical person! Not only does she criticize you for wearing "cheap" clothes, she seems to be trying to ruin your trip to WDW. I can't imagine making any of the comments you describe to one of my friends. (And by the way, I'm with you on the thrift store shopping! I love a great bargain and feel proud of my finds! "Keep on thriftin'!")

My advice is to stop talking to her about WDW. Though she describes herself as a Disney fan, she's not. Just change the subject if she brings it up. Then come her to the DIS and get your advice and input! Obviously, we're all true WDW fans and will give you all the answers you need. You can learn a lot on these boards, and it's really fun to get revved up about your trip along with a bunch of people who feel the same way you do!
