What would you order (appy, entree and dessert) at the following World Showcase restaurants if you wanted to sample the truest representation of each countries cuisine?

Tutto Italia
Chefs de France
Rose and Crown

These are the last 3 in our quest to eat 'round the world! Help me decide what to order!

MH

I would have to say Chefs is the most authentic of the 3. Escargot appy and the chicken dinner.

Just to clarify, I plan on eating at all 3 of these places in December. I just thought it would be fun this time around, to put aside my personal tastes and instead of choosing what looks/sounds good to me, choose what is actually the MOST AUTHENTIC appetizer, entree, and dessert served at each place! You know, just to be different! The problem I'm facing is .....since I haven't had the pleasure to visit ANY of these countries in person, how do I determine which dishes best fit the bill?:confused3

That's where you guys come in, I'd welcome any input!:thumbsup2

Ooooh...this game sounds fun. I'll get my DH to do it as well when he comes home. He would be a good one to ask. But I'll give it a shot. FYI, It might depend on if you're eating lunch or dinner there, as the menus change for each service.

Tutto Italia
Appy: Prosciutto di Parma
Main: Tagliatelle Egg Pasta
Dessert: Gelati and Sorbetti

Chefs de France
Appy: Cassolette d'escargots de Bourgogne au beurre persille
Main: Demi poulet fermier a la broche, pommes puree au basilic et tomate braisee
Dessert: Creme Brulee

Rose and Crown (This is the easiest one.)
Appy: Chicken Curry Satay or Potatoe and Leek Soup
Main: Bangers and Mash
Dessert: Sticky Toffee Pudding

Oh good point Mr. & Mrs. Smith- all 3 ADR's are for dinner. And thanks for playing, can't wait to hear what DH thinks too!

Well I have chosen items that are all available at dinner.

I can only tell you what I would order at the Italian restaurant, if I was dining with my husband.

Tutto

Antipasto (share)
Buccatini Pasta (me), Lasagna (hubby)
Fish (both)
Contorno (both)
Insalata (husband)
Chocolate Torta (me) Gelato (hub)
Espresso (me), Cappuccino (hub)

Wine

We eat our salad at the end of the main course.

If you want to be as close to authentic as you can, I'd say...

Tutto:
Eggplant Caponata
Fish Filet (as long as it's an Italian staple.... I'm actually shocked at the lack of seafood on this menu)
Bugie/Chiacchere (have it before Lent if you really want authentic!)

Chefs:
Burgundian Escargots
Braised Lamb Shank
Bavarois a la fraise (the origins of Creme Brulee are actually contested.... )

Rose and Crown:
First, most people order Guinness here.... that, of course, is Irish. I know Britons claim everything Irish as their own (witness the preponderance of Joyce in Brit Lit courses), but don't be an imperialist, order something English! :hippie:
That said, this is a multi-national menu. Malaysian, Scottish, Irish... there's a lot of colonial flavor in it. I'd say for pure English....
The Cheese Plate
Fish and Chips
Sticky Toffee Pudding (it and the Crumble are the only desserts of English origin)

Very interesting, thanks for your detailed reply! And you brought up an interesting component of an authentic european meal that I hadn't even thought of yet..... Europeans drink wine and beer with their meals!!!!! SOOOO if I'm trying to be authentic I can't very well order a coke with my meal can I?:lmao:

So now I have to claim ignorance when it comes to which beer to choose in England, and which wine would complement my meals in France and Italy. I don't drink often, just an occasional mixed drink here or there, so consequently I have even LESS knowledge of the wines and beers of other countries than I have of their food!

From what's on the menu, Boddington's and Bass are English. Both are reasonably good, depending on what your tastes are. Boddisngton's is a bitter and is a Manchester beer, Bass is an English pale ale and I think is from somewhere in Staffordshire. Bass is one of the beers I'll order if I can't find something local or don't have access to micro-brewery beers, but then I like English style pale ales. As a historical note, though, Bass's logo is the first trademark in Britain!
I don't know which wines they have in their cellars in Italy and France. But ask your servers, they and the chefs can help you choose outstanding pairings!
Have fun!

If you are not a beer drinker as such I was suggest Bass over Boddingtons. Bitters are an acquired taste for some.

If I knew the options, I could probably help you choose a wine from Italy and France. FYI, don't worry so much about "complementing your meal" as finding a wine that you will enjoy. That is the latest word in wine pairings.

Thank you so much! I don't know how I overlooked your post originally but I really appreciate your suggestions. My mother eats her salad at the end of her meal too, but just because she likes to be different I think, rather than for any cultural or logical reasons.:rotfl2: Am I guessing correctly that you are Italian? If so I'd love to know what region you're from!
