Most everyone has heard about Drinking Around The World. That is, when you try your best to have at least one alcoholic drink in each of the 11 countries around World Showcase in EPCOT. When it comes to Walt Disney World drinking events, Drinking Around The World is probably the most popular.
There is a lesser known WDW drinking activity that, in my opinion, is just as much fun. The Monorail Crawl! DizMeet holds several Monorail Crawl events per year, and its inevitable that there will be at least one member that is unfamiliar with what that entails. Simply put, its a pub crawl that uses the Magic Kingdom Monorail Resort Loop as transportation between bars & lounges.
Just to give you a quick example of a typical DizMeet Monorial Crawl itinerary. We would start at Tambu Lounge in front of Ohana at the Polynesian Resort around 6pm. Now that Trader Sam's is there, that might be yet another stop during our night. After most everyone meets up, and has a drink if they're so inclined, we will hop on the resort monorail and head to the next stop...The Grand Floridian.
At the Grand Florida, our main hangout is Mizner's Lounge. What's great about this spot is that there is a large outdoor patio just outside of the Lounge, and its a perfect spot to bring a drink to and enjoy a great sunset and the sound of the fireworks. After we've had a drink or two at Mizner's, its time to hop on the monorail once again and head over to the Contemporary Resort. Of course there is a short stop at the Magic Kingdom monorail station, but the cool thing is that you're allowed to bring your drinks on the monorail (in plastic cups), which is something not too many people are aware of. So our short layover at Magic Kingdom is not so bad.
Once we're at the Contemporary Lounge, we make our way down to the ground floor to The Wave bar. Here they have a nice large bar with a couple of very cool "blue rooms". I call them blue rooms because...well, they are blue. Very cool atmosphere in these rooms with plenty of room for lots of people and couches all the way around. This spot is where we typically wrap up the night, but not before hanging out for a while and closing the place down (at midnight).
It seems to me like the Monorail Crawl is slowly gaining popularity. More and more people are talking about this fun way to enjoy the nighttime activities at the Disney resorts. Its a great way not only to enjoy the more adult side of Disney, but also a great way to make new friends.
How many of you have experience the Monorail Crawl? What about the Boardwalk Crawl? There's lots of great spots for a "crawl" at Walt Disney World. I want to hear about the ones you enjoy!
