the Monofail and more

I think its more than just refurbing the trains. The trains are just part of a much larger system.

They would have to bring down the entire system or at least an entire rail.

And yes doing this may lessen the frequency of these brake downs but it won't stop them.

Oh yeah, I know. When I used to work on the Monorails, at least one train a day would just die somewhere on the track, so the tractor would have to come out and tow it to the station. It's such a hassle.

People do have some disgusting bathroom habits! It always surprises me how dirty some people can be. I can't recall any seriously dirty bathrooms at DW but I wish some guests would clean up after themselves and not expect someone else to do it for them. I know if I have to go bad enough I'll wipe up a toilet seat myself. Maybe that's just me.

I've never really had a problem with bathroom stalls at Disney World so I have to ask a couple of questions. You said "one night at MK", was it particularly crowded that night? Was it right before or after a parade or Wishes? I ask because the more people that use the facilities in a short amount of time, the dirtier the stall will become. If a Cast Member is supposed to clean the bathroom once an hour (I have no idea, just an example) and 200 people use the bathroom in that hour, it will be much dirtier than another hour when only 20 people use it.

Also, when you said they were "dirty", can you define your meaning of the term? Different people have different measures for that. I'm just curious since I don't really have a problem with bathrooms at Disney so I'm just surprised.

I never had problem till last trip. Last trip the bathroom outside the entrance to Epcot, the one not that far from bag check smelled all the way. We were walking to the bag check and it was horrible. It was around 2 PM.
The bathroom somewhere next to Japan was plain dirty, I am not sure which one, my DD went there alone when we were at Japan store. She plain refused to go there. I do not know what exactly was wrong but if teen refuses to use it, the one who is used to school bathrooms, that sais a lot. It was about 8 PM.
Third one was a bathroom at MK, the one which you pass as you exit SM. My DD went on a ride and I was just walking back and forth. I did not see bathroom itself but I saw lots of toilet paper dragged by people on a street. It was around 5 PM.
I agree that more people use it, the dirtier it gets BUT isn't Disney familiar with this? So at busy times, you send CM to bathroom more often. No excuse here, sorry.

Couldn't agree more, it's what Disney have made their name on and what people have come to expect from them and nothing less.

"I use to think how did they do that, now I wish they would just do it"

I won't even get started on the monorail, I just need to shut my mouth when the subject comes up because the way in which it is being ............ BLAH I NEED TO STOP!

See I almost started on a rant.

I've always enjoyed the monorails, as far as I remember I cant recall any mishaps I may have had :goodvibes likewise for the bathroom situation usually whenever I stop at one there's a bathroom attendant near by or inside the bathroom. :confused3

point of clarification on the bathrooms - it was not just the MK bathroom, though that one was the worst.

Our entire stay, the bathrooms were not in good shape -- the MK one was just the worst. It was surprising as we've always found WDW bathrooms quite clean considering how many people use them.

3 different times in 3 different bathrooms my stall was out of toilet paper. Yes, I should have checked. Still, I've never experienced this at Disney before.

As for the monorail -- use it enough and it WILL break down. We used it twice while we were there...it broke one of the times. :confused3 I like it, I think it's cool, but it is in desperate need of updating.

I haven't experienced any really dirty bathrooms myself, but I did notice a difference from our first trip in '99 and our 3nd trip in '09. It seemed there were a lot more CMs in the bathrooms keeping up with the cleaning the first time. I remember going on a zoo field trip with my daughter's class right after we got back from that 1st trip and commenting to the other mothers in the zoo's bathroom that they sure weren't as clean as Disney's bathrooms! I hate to hear that somebody had to see such a dirty restroom.

The monorail goes down temporarily at least once every time we are there, it doesn't bother me very much unless I got a 8:30 ADR or something. I'm still a fan. Got nailed by lightning on one last summer in a huge storm and it stopped short of the platform, the electrical including the air went out for about 15 minutes and it was packed. We couldn't get off so it got pretty claustrophobic. :faint:

As far as bathrooms I think I have more good luck ;) finding a clean restroom at WDW than I do at other parks. Sometimes they're not in great shape, but usually they're tolerable. :earseek:

Never had a problem with bathrooms. Although when you think about it, it's the guests' fault it's messy. People have horrendous public bathroom habits.

As for the monorail, I must not run into that kind of bad luck. The only time I remember the monorails being down in my four trips as an adult was during the fatal accident on 7/3/09.

:thumbsup2

I just had to agree here. The bathrooms being filthy is because of guests that are filthy. It is ridiculous to not flush a toilet, throw paper on the floor or pee on the seat and not clean it up. I understand that some times mom has to bring her son into the ladies room but please raise the seat for them to pee and lower it again when they are done or don't being them in. Also I don't know how so many women end up peeing on the seat. Even worse is not cleaning it up after they have done it. I really hope they leave their bathrooms like that at home! Disgusting!!! :headache:

I'll just say thank goodness for the ferries. I like them better anyway and so far they seem to be working pretty well. Even though a giant swarm of bugs landed on our ferry one evening this past trip and that was a bit creepy.

As for the bathrooms, I agree that people are messy. Disney should at least make sure that there's toilet paper in the stalls though. That happened to me a few times too.

Normally, at MK, at least, there's only one person assigned to a given restroom (or set of restrooms) at a time. I used to work Main Street Custodial, and it could be a nightmare trying to get into a busy restroom and clean up when there's a huge queue of people in there. I sometimes had to ask (already annoyed people) to wait a second while I just ducked into a stall, as soon as it's available, to make sure it's not disgusting. Generally, when it's that crazy busy, it's the best time to realize that I'm not going to get much done and use that time for my break period, then wade through the nightmare when I come back. I've left perfectly clean restrooms to go on a break, and come back to what looks like the aftermath of a war in there. Really, is it so hard to dispose of all your toilet paper, put things in the trash where they belong, and clean up after yourself if you make a mess all over the place? Just for 45 minutes?:thumbsup2

/(ex) custodian's rant.

The resort monorail was having issues this past Friday night. We ate at Ohana and then walked over to check out the gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian, then figured we'd ride the monorail back around to the Poly. It was very slow moving from the Contemporary to the TTC. Once at the TTC we sat there for about 15 minutes (then finally realized duh, we could wall) while the monorail conductor kept coming on saying there was an issue with the train in front of us...it kept going backwards instead of forewards. I think all of the Poly guests got off and walked over at that point.

Also I don't know how so many women end up peeing on the seat.

OK, I'm not a woman, but from hearing my wife complain about it, apparently some women are afraid to actually sit on a public bathroom seat, so the squat over it. I guess peeing on the seat you don't sit on is more hygienic then sitting on a seat that should have been clean to begin with.

:confused3

We were stuck on the MK Express monorail last Thursday on the way into the Christmas Party. The driver was on the intercom every few minutes giving us a status update for what was going on and apologizing profusely. there was a short in one of the vehicles ahead of us that knocked out the power to the whole line. They had to move the bad train off the line. They found the problem and fixed it pretty quickly. We got fastpasses when we got off at the station.
