The Moms Panel take on the Yeti, an EE5K TR ~*~ Completed ~*~

Awww you're so sweet Angela and the race would have been fun, just wait :rotfl2:

They do it in the evening because of the heat, it was almost dark by the time we started. Oh and I love how everyone is assuming I ran :rotfl2:

Oh, okay! I guess now the cupcake makes more sense!

Jo,

I am really very jealous of your stay at AKL! The morning out in the rocking chair alone sounded divine! I can't wait to stay there one day.

You know you were talking about how hot it was - my DH says he would still rather go at that time of the year because of the low crowds. To each his own. I can't imagine how uncomfortable you were during the race though. Did you dump some of the water on you instead of drink it?
:lmao:

Hi Jo!

Signing on! And going back to page 1 to read! It may take me a few days to catch up!

Actually I did read most of it already! :goodvibes I just left off when I went on my vacay! Ok I just read what you said about your hot race day and enjoying AK...so dreamy! Can't wait to see the video and you all look great in your matching pink tees!!!

Not too successfully, I guess! ;)
I think it turned into me being the stalker by the end of the trip :rotfl2:

Just found your TR! I know....was I under a rock??? :lmao: I'll have to go back & catch up! However, that will have to wait until I return from my birthday trip......TOMORROW!!!!:woohoo::yay: Not that I'm excited!! :rotfl: It'll be special......a trip with 5 other crazy DISer ladies!!! Look out World!!! :rotfl2:
Welcome :goodvibes I hope you had lots of fun on your Birthday trip :yay:

It was a lovely relaxing morning, especially as hardly anyone else was out there :thumbsup2 Kristel lets just say I didn't need to dump any water on me :rolleyes1

:hug::hug::hug: Love you, Jo!!! :hug::hug::hug:
Love you too sweetie

Hi Cathy, thanks so much for reading :goodvibes

I really need to update this thing, I'll try in the next day or two when I have no-one to chat too as you're all celebrating Thanksgiving :rotfl2:

We had a break in filming whilst one of the other Moms recorded a voice over, whilst I was standing waiting DISer Thewesterberg came over for a chat. I knew she was going to be at the race but with thousands of people there didn't expect to see her. I suppose the sea of pink shirts made us easy to spot :lmao: I still had my mic on though so had to be quiet so I felt really rude at not being able to talk. Sorry

Oh I forgot to show you a photo of the shirt that our favourite Disney Dad had made, he wrote the book a complete idiots guide to WDW and look what he put on his shirt

One last quick bit of filming and we were finally finished :yay: We still had about 30 minutes before race time so we all sat on the hot tarmac and chatted, it was so nice to finally sit down even if it wasn't the comfiest. We then wandered over to get our place in wave 8, I spotted thewesterberg so went and apologised for not being able to chat earlier!

The way the race worked was that there were about 13 different waves all starting about 5 minutes apart and people queued up behind their number. Even though all the Moms were designated different waves we were all told to join wave 8. There was a DJ playing music, counting down to the start and just basically getting the crowds going, it was lots of fun :)

I suppose this is the time I should now confess to everyone that I had decided to walk the 5K rather than run it. I had very good intentions at the start, my DD and I even did a few training runs but when I worked out that it only saved me 8 minutes to run it (I did the run - walk method) as I'm a pretty fast walker plus after a run I ached like mad the next day, it was an easy decision to make :rotfl:

The race started at 7.30pm and as each wave started we gradually made our way to the front, the other runners in our group were using the time to stretch and warm up whilst about half of the Moms panel sat on the floor, we really had been standing far too long that afternoon :rotfl: When we finally got to the front the DJ announced that the Moms Panel were there and we all went wild, honestly we were dancing, singing and being totally silly. Well they did play our trips theme song for us, I've got a feeling by the Black Eyed Peas. This was all filmed by the way, hope they don't add it to the video :lmao:

The film crew wanted a shot of us all running off so we lined up at the back of our wave, once the gun went we were off, yes I did run this bit, couldn't be seen walking on film :rotfl: Once out of sight I settled down to a fast walk with my sister and Kay. There were a few walkers behind but quite a few of the Moms were running so were already out of sight. We kept a steady pace, passing quite a lot of walkers whilst trying to keep out of the way of the runners from the next wave overtaking us.

The race had started in the very far corner of the parking lot so it was quite a long way before we actually went into the park. Disney Mom Beth and our favourite CM Gary were there cheering us as we went through :goodvibes We had been told that the film crew would be be on the route somewhere and once spotted we had to run, yeah I faked that I ran the race :rotfl: In part if the race we went back stage and did a loop back on ourselves, this gave us the chance to spot lots of other Moms so we screamed and shouted encouragement to each other. We were doing really well until we got to about where Everest is and it started raining, we also spotted the film crew so started running, well some other people got right in the way so we were made to go back and run past again

Race Map
EE5KMap.jpg

Literally a minute later the heavens opened, honestly I have never seen so much rain even during hurricane Faye, we were soaked and wading through puddles which were half way up our shins  We still kept going though!!!! We had been told to all wait at the finish line before heading to the obstacle course so the whole group could be filmed crossing the finish line together, well the weather put pay to that, the shoot had been abandoned but lots of the Moms had waited for us anyway! We waited for the last Moms to finish and with very squelchy sneakers and dripping wet we grabbed our scavenger hunt map and pen and walked back into the park. It was still pouring and we were miles away from the entrance, well it seemed it, see told you we would do far more than 5K!!!

The map was thick paper which was very unpractical in the rain, the pens were cool though as they lit up. There were several different types of map with different clues on, our first clue was in Camp Minnie-Mickey and was quite cryptic, actually they all were. The clues took us all around the park eventually ending back near to EE, by this point we just wanted to finish as it was still raining, we were getting cold and the pen wouldn't write on the sodden paper anyway!

As we crossed the finish line they took our maps but didn't check them so we could have skipped it altogether :rotfl: My stomach suddenly realised that I hadn't eaten for so long and I got terrible tummy ache, although it was the last thing I wanted I knew I had to eat so we headed to Flame Tree Barbecue. When I say we it was Whitney and her husband, Doug, Emma and I. I have no clue where everyone else went  First I made a bathroom stop and maybe TMI but it's not a good idea to go to the loo when you're soaking wet as when I pulled my shorts back up it was hideous. They felt freezing cold and disgusting!!!

A few photos from the official site to show how wet we were.

With some hot food in me I felt so much better, my legs were sore, not from the running but from the wet shorts. Over dinner, or I suppose it was supper by then, we put the world to rights laughed at the differences between America and England and had a lovely time! Whilst we were eating Jodi, Diane C and their hubbies came in so once they'd finished we all decided to take a ride on EE. We were all soaking, shattered and desperate for bed but the lure of a walk on to EE was too much to turn down, plus it had finally stopped raining!

Within minutes we were on EE and OMG it is soooooo much fun in the dark, it's a good ride during daylight but at night is just awesome. As soon as we got off we walked right back on again, the one benefit of the rain was that most people had gone home!

The others decided to head for the bus but Em and I went for a quick ride on Kali River Rapids, we were wet anyway so couldn't exactly get any wetter :rotfl: Again it was a walk on and we had a great laugh. We then headed for the bus too and once we had eventually found it, there were actually coaches laid on half way across the parking lot. We jumped on and found all the other Moms on there too so our quick ride hadn't held us up at all :thumbsup2

Within a few minutes we were back to the AKL and ready to flop, it was about midnight now,but this is what I found waiting for me......

Thanks for the update, Jo! It was nice to see how things unfolded after I left. So glad I was in my room when the monsoon hit!

We had a break in filming...

Hi Jo!

"we also spotted the film crew so started running, well some other people got right in the way so we were made to go back and run past again"

Ah huh! There is justice 'walker'! heheheheee...

"we grabbed our scavenger hunt map and pen and walked back into the park. It was still pouring and we were miles away from the entrance, well it seemed it, see told you we would do far more than 5K!!!"

Ahhh... let me see if I understand this- you just finished a 5K run (just looking at the route made me ache) and now you have to walk from the start line back to Camp Mickey Minnie??? Egads! TAXI!!!

"Over dinner, or I suppose it was supper by then, we put the world to rights laughed at the differences between America and England and had a lovely time!"

Oh, you Brits think you're just soooo special... heheheee... I was in line at our local Wal-mart this morning and the guy in front of me was a Brit- retired Royal Navy Lt Cmdr- and some word came up and he claimed 'original source'. Get over it! We're here and it's our language now! hehehehee...

"We were all soaking, shattered and desperate for bed but the lure of a walk on to EE was too much to turn down, plus it had finally stopped raining!"

Egads! You're good!

"The others decided to head for the bus but Em and I went for a quick ride on Kali River Rapids..."

Damn good!

I gotta go take a nap now...

Oh! Love the shot of 'wet Jo'! hehehehee...

:)

Wow Jo...all I can say is you are a trooper to bear the heat and standing and rain and run/walking!!!! And still have a blast!!! Amazing! Loved the report!!!

Works for me! ;)

Literally a minute later the heavens opened, honestly I have never seen so much rain even during hurricane Faye,

I find this hard to believe. :rotfl:

Within minutes we were on EE and OMG it is soooooo much fun in the dark, it's a good ride during daylight but at night is just awesome. As soon as we got off we walked right back on again, the one benefit of the rain was that most people had gone home!

Sounds lovely!

Within a few minutes we were back to the AKL and ready to flop, but this is what I found waiting for me......

Sweet!

No worries at all - I was all excited when I saw all of you (yes, the pink shirts were easy to spot!) My friend encouraged me to go say hi. And then I felt like such a dork when I realized I had walked in on your filming... so glad the cameras weren't rolling! Absolutely embarrassed! Thanks for being so sweet about it. It was fun meeting you!

Have you ever seen it rain so hard?! My socks actually were pink from the dye in my shirt running down my leg. We had just gotten through the obstacle course when it started raining and couldn't believe the amounts that were coming down. We were jumping in puddles and kicking water at each other - fun acting like little kids!

The running for the camera made me laugh... especially the do-over part! Even without cameras watching us, I found us running at key points... we ran the first mile and then the cold I had combined with my asthma was kicking my butt so we walked most of the race. As we came out from backstage to the finish line I ran again... :goodvibes

So cool that you got to ride on Kali and Everest. Was Everest more intense in the dark? We bailed after going on Dinosaur. The other rides were closed at that point because of the rain/lightening.

Congrats on finishing and have a fun time in the down pour! It was a race to remember!!

What a "roller coaster" of a night! I'm glad it ended well. I would have wanted a hot bath and bed after all that.

Hi Jo !!! would have been waking SLOWLY!!!
Oh Rosie don't worry I would have dragged you along :rotfl2:

How horrible that it started to pour in the middle of the race, can't imagine that was much fun.
It really was torential :faint:

Thanks for the update, Jo! It was nice to see how things unfolded after I left. So glad I was in my room when the monsoon hit!
I bet you were glad Diane :rotfl2:

Ahhh... let me see if I understand this- you just finished a 5K run (just looking at the route made me ache) and now you have to walk from the start line back to Camp Mickey Minnie??? Egads! TAXI!!!
We literally had to do the whole 5K again, well except for the loop back stage :faint:

Oh! Love the shot of 'wet Jo'! hehehehee...
Thanks :rotfl2:

Wow Jo...all I can say is you are a trooper to bear the heat and standing and rain and run/walking!!!! And still have a blast!!! Amazing! Loved the report!!!
Awww thanks, you should have seen my feet when I got back they looked like prunes :rotfl:

I find this hard to believe. :rotfl:
Honestly CE it was worse, it came down so quick and so hard

No worries at all - I was all excited when I saw all of you (yes, the pink shirts were easy to spot!) My friend encouraged me to go say hi. And then I felt like such a dork when I realized I had walked in on your filming... so glad the cameras weren't rolling! Absolutely embarrassed! Thanks for being so sweet about it. I'm glad you spotted us and your friend made you say Hi, I don't think I would have spotted you later in the trip if you hadn't come by :thumbsup2

Have you ever seen it rain so hard?! My socks actually were pink from the dye in my shirt running down my leg. We had just gotten through the obstacle course when it started raining and couldn't believe the amounts that were coming down. :rotfl2: We didn't even do the obstacle course as they shut it, those beams looked very high though

The running for the camera made me laugh... especially the do-over part! Even without cameras watching us, I found us running at key points... we ran the first mile and then the cold I had combined with my asthma was kicking my butt so we walked most of the race. Glad I wasn't the only one :rotfl2:

So cool that you got to ride on Kali and Everest. Was Everest more intense in the dark? We bailed after going on Dinosaur. The other rides were closed at that point because of the rain/lightening.
Oh you so have to do it one day it was definitely more intense and seemed like a different ride :thumbsup2

Congrats on finishing and have a fun time in the down pour! It was a race to remember!!
It sure was :rotfl2: BTW I'm really sorry but I can't remember your name :sad2:

Wow you hardly got soaked at all! :lmao:
I know ;) How wet did you get?

What a "roller coaster" of a night! I'm glad it ended well. I would have wanted a hot bath and bed after all that.
It really was, we had everything :rotfl2: And I definitely was ready for my bed :goodvibes

Ugh, I hate being wet! That's so cool, though, that you got to ride EE at night! I'm sure you slept well that night!

I'm so sorry you all were soaked by the rain and I know exactly what you were talking about with the wet short...I really laughed out loud at that! :rotfl:

Nice job on the race as well...I've talked about doing a 5k as well, but I walk (really really fast) but do not run. Maybe I'll show DH your trippie and tell him I'd like to do something like that and it'll get me an extra trip (don't I wish!) :rotfl:

Looks like a lovely present was waiting for you...what a great surprise.

I suppose this is the time I should now confess to everyone that I had decided to walk the 5K rather than run it. :faint: I'm just shocked:lmao:

This was all filmed by the way, hope they don't add it to the video :lmao:

ARe we going to be able to get a copy of this video. I am thinking it will be must viewing for the next Fockerfest:rolleyes1

Literally a minute later the heavens opened, honestly I have never seen so much rain even during hurricane Faye,

Oh it couldn't have been that bad;)

Within a few minutes we were back to the AKL and ready to flop, it was about midnight now,but this is what I found waiting for me......
