Love the resort pics and you sure did get a nice view.

Why is there wire wrapped around the tree and what is that round cup thing?

If we ever stayed there with my grandson I don't think we would ever be able to leave the resort.

I think, but I'm just guessing here, that the wire is to protect the trees from animals rubbing against it. The round cup...is that the bucket near the giraffe's head? If so, the animal-keepers put the giraffe chow in there so they eat that rather than the trees.

It's a great resort for young kids, since most love to look at animals.

I voted in the morning, which is even more civic-minded.....just in case I became DIStracted and forgot to vote.

That works fine when you have one of those jobs where you can just stroll in at any time of the day, but when you have to be in before the polls open..........

I wasn't trying to sell you on a savanna view, but we did like it. (I'll have a story about that later on.) I think most of our stays will be in standard view, to save on points.

We did Savanna View at Jambo House, and it is nice, but we will probably do mostly Standard View for the same reason. Right now with a lot of trips still commando, we aren't in the room that much to enjoy it anyway. When our trips start to slow down some, we will probably consider it more.

Yeah, he's got the hang of it. He really spins those paddles so that if there's an opening in your defenses, a laser-shot will soon be on its way. But we've had plenty of discouraged/frustrated moments. He tends to get pretty upset when he loses at a game, especially videogames. We've finally broken him of throwing the controllers, which was a problem a couple of years ago.

OK, I"m seeing that that might be one of the positives that can come out of registering. It would certainly help with crime fighting. Yeah, Glenn, it can take up to a month to be re-registered in your new county, so we didn't even try. Buying underwear seemed to need to take priority over voting.

I always wondered why it was on a Tuesday. I guess when you still actually went to the polls you could take time off work?? to vote. Here in Oregon, it is now done TOTALLY by mail in- which opens the door for huge issues of fraud, but hey, I'm not on the Oregon Elections Board, so what do I know?

I wonder how the Muslims and Jews would feel about voting on Sunday? Or a Friday or Saturday, if you move it there? Or if it matters at all to them?? Probably doesn't matter to them at all. Or the Christians who want to honor the Sabbath? I don't know... why don't they just offer it on 2 days- why would that matter so much?

actually, the one time I had ostrich it was in chili - you just knew you had meat, the flavor didn't have a chance with all those spices!

One Sunday, one of the kids had to do a little talk in front of the congregation to give an update of what the group had been doing. One of the things he mentioned was that they had learned about "the 12 Commandments". He got big laughs, and Judy and I sank down in our seats, trying to become invisible.

I can't answer any of these tough questions you pose Liesa, but if keeping elections at just 1 day will get these political commercials off of the TV faster, then that's what I'm for!

I didn't realize there was a difference in the counting amongst various religions.

It reminds me of a time, back pre-kids, when Judy and I worked as advisors for our church youth group. One Sunday, one of the kids had to do a little talk in front of the congregation to give an update of what the group had been doing. One of the things he mentioned was that they had learned about "the 12 Commandments". He got big laughs, and Judy and I sank down in our seats, trying to become invisible.

I had no idea that there was a difference either. Since we mainly have catholics and lutherans here in Germany and they both count the same way, it never was an issue.

This kid seems to have gotten the commandments and the apostles mixed up! Funny story, but I can understand that you were slightly emberassad!

Reminds me of the "confirmation test" we had to do to be admitted to confirmation. We had two years of bible study/catechism classes and then had an oral test with our pastor in front of the congregation after Sunday service. We had to memorize lots of stuff (including the 10 comandments and Luther's explanation of them). I still think that memorizing words does not make a good christian, but that's the way it was... Today most churches have a different approach.
