The misheard song lyrics thread

Not me, but my ex husband. He could never get the words to John Denver's song right. "Thank God I'm A Country Boy"
He refused to believe that it was 'I got cakes on the griddle', and insisted on singing "I've got hicks on the griddle' every time he heard it. Still makes me laugh to this day whenever I hear that song on the radio.

Not necessarily "misheard" but completely made up a line in my head that does not exist
"I sleep with one eye open all the time"
Not in "Walk the Line" by Johnny Cash...at all...but I was convinced for years that it was 🤷‍♀️

"Rock the Casbah" always threw me off. The line that gets me is "Sharif don't like it" I swear it was Sherry don't like it. Actually a lot of that song is hard to get!!

For the longest time I thought that the Dixie Chicks had a beef with Ohio. In Wide Open Spaces, they sing "cause she knows the higher stakes..." but I always thought it was "cause she knows Ohio stinks." Since I also hate Ohio this made me love the Dixie Chicks. By the time I learned of the correct line I was hooked.

I also remember hearing Taylor's song 22 and when she sings "It seems like the perfect night to dress up like hipsters" the first time I thought she sang "It seems like the perfect night to dress up like Hitler" I thought that just cannot be right.

Corey Heart, Sunglasses at Night - a classic from the 80's right? OK, after he sings, "I turn to her and say" and goes into the chorus, just what is he saying to her?

Don’t mess around on a dying flame.

Edit. Oh shoot. I missed your quote, lumpy, and not sure how to add it

Edit. I just listened to sunglasses and don’t know why I remember it that way. Don’t hear an “f” sound now. Anywho. Agreed that those lyrics are hard to make out.

Well, it's not "dying flame", but I think we are all better off this being a mystery. Knowing the real lyrics don't make the song any better.
It has to do with the sunglasses

Here's one from when I was a little kid.

This is the dawning of the age of asparagus, age of asparagus........

Here's one you'll like then. Akron's Finest.

My mother was always singing...the wrong words.

"There's Going to be a Heartache Tonight" became "There's Going to be a Party Tonight".

"Walk This Way" was "Walk Like This".

I had a lot as a kid, but I'm blanking on most of them now.

In "We Didn't Start the Fire" I thought it was "trouble in the sewers". I was little and didn't know what the Suez was.

That song by P!nk... "Just Like Fire",

What I thought she was saying is definitely a little different that what it was. I had look up the lyrics... "If I can light the world up for just one day". It sounded like doing something different to the world for just one day :rotfl2:

Just realized a new one. In The Record Company's "This Crooked City" there's a line my sister and I both thought was "On the second date, someone had to die", which was obviously very confusing. WHY?! But turns out it's "On the second date, The sun was handed down".
