It seems like I have been to Disney more than a few and when asked at work where am I going for vacation...I say Disney.
They say AGAIN...you just went last year. What are you...a Disney freak?
I just say I love it cuz it's a magical place and it makes my kids happy. That's why.
Of course, they snicker. Why do people care where you go for vacation?
DO you ever get criticized and if so, what do you say to them? Why do you like Disney so much?

Ken

:) Don't let anyone worry you. We went 3 times last year and have a trip coming up in two weeks and then our 1st Disney Cruise.

Since we joined the Disney Vacation Club, we go 2 or 3 times per year. We have Disney stuff all over our house. I wear Disney clothing every weekend.

We are a true Disney family.

Ken,
This is a subject my co-workers and I always go round and round on. Not in a mean way, but I think they just dont get it. My husband and I just LOVE Disney World. We go a few times a year and the kids, (15 & 18) only go once a year with us. When we go away, we want to just be immersed in the fantasy of it all. From everyone being so kind and helpful (which we know is not the real world) to anything you want to do right there at your fingertips. I think people who arent "Disney" people just think you have to be 6 to enjoy it, and its really the total opposite. I mean, it is one vacation when we are with the kids, but a totally different vacation if its just DH and I.

We cant think of any other vacation spot that matches it. We have done Vegas, cruises, Islands, etc., its just not the same as Disney.

At work, we've made kind of a joke of it with putting little mouse ears on the schedule on days I wont be in, and things like that, but I figure, one day they will get it. But the funny thing is, now if someone from work is going to Disney, the first thing they do is ask me to help them plan it. :earsboy:

I just smile and say, "I knew one day you would be asking for help" because I know, once they go they will be hooked too!!

name one place where you can
go on a safari
travel back in time
travel to a distant planet
view a storybook fantasy
enjoy negative calories (yes - you DO walk off everything you eat down there!)
AND get a tan all at the same time?

I think we all know the answer to that!

I get the same thing too. Many people take the same vacation year in and year out. I know people that go to Cape Cod or Wildwood, NJ every summer.

I think people go to where they feel most comfortable. How many of us started out at WDW as a once in a lifetime trip and wind up going there again and again.

Personally I continue to go because I know we can have a family vacation with the comfort of knowing the terrrain but still explore and find something new every time.

I also think people look at the $$$ of a Disney vacation without taking the time to look at the real numbers. I spent more on my Darien Lake/Toronto/Niagra Falls trip than I will on my trip this April to WDW and don't feel as if I got my money's worth.

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

That's exactly what I say, Stinkerbelle................

You want to go to a beach........there's a beach (or several).....

You want to tan (in my case 'burn') by the pool, while sipping a frozen drink.......... you got it.......

You want a massage or spa treatment........its there.......

You want a nice romantical dinner, on the water, with your wife.......Disney........

You want to be treated like you are the only person on property.......see a CM (for the most part).........

You want to shop.........got it.......too............

You want to run around like a lunatic and burn some energy......Oh Yes................they can accomodate you...........

Everything you want in one place.....................I don't know about y'all (yes I did live in the south at one time), but my wife and I can't sit still (and our little guy is the same ball of energy), so there is no place like WDW to ....................'not sit still'.............

:teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

people get even snottier when they found out that i am going again in less than a year because they say "well you don't even have kids". obviously these people don't know how to have fun. like my mom.

they say "well you don't even have kids". obviously these people don't know how to have fun.

We get this too. It is so annoying that people think Disney is only for kids. Obviously they have neer been there as an adult. A lot of people laugh that Disney is our vacation desination and we do not have kids. It is a wonderful vacation. We can't get enough. We just got back a few weeks ago and talk everyday about when we can go back.

:goodvibes :goodvibes

I never can understand why some people don't enjoy disney world as much as I do. It's just as bad as people who hate christmas. I've been eleven times and I'm going back...and probably will every year. I'm proud of being a disney freak!

People are shocked when we tell them we went to Disney on our Honeymoon. It was so much fun!
I just get no enjoyment out of laying on a beach and drinking every night. I live in a town on the ocean and I can get a mixed drink anywhere!
Disney has everything and some people refuse to believe it. I try to explain that Disney has some of the top rated restaurants in Florida, if not the country. V&A, Artist Point, Spoodles...

At Disney we can go Bass Fishing, Horseback Riding, drive a race car, see a Parade, ride a Roller Coaster and eat dinner with Mickey Mouse all in the same day.

The next day I can swim with a dolphin, see a lion, catch a live show, get a massage, have a six course meal at V&A and catch a fireworks show from my hotel balcony.

Some people just don't get it! (Especially when I tell them how much we spent there!)

We just got back from a trip without the kids. We ate where we wanted, saw what we wanted. I loved every minute of it!

The main problem is that so many people think of WDW as consisting of 4 parks and nothing else. If you made a list of all the non-park things to do at WDW, I'll be people would be amazed. How many people own condos at the beach or the mountains and run there every chance they get? Why? It's the "same old thing" every time. Try asking someone that sometime!

It's the only vacation I can go on and truly forget about real life. We've been at least once a year for the last several years and we still find something new and different every time.

My husband and I have gone twice alone (Our kids are still young). It was great. Completely different than when we were with the kids, but so much fun. We tried alot of new things that we couldn't chance with the kids (What if it was boring and they had to sit still for an hour! The world might end!)

But, I must admit that DH gets a little antsy that he would like to try something else. I know he'll like Disney better than anything else. But, I guess the grass is always greener....

Everytime he suggests a different vacation, I price what he wants to do and then I price Disney. We know how to do Disney on the cheap without chintzing on the experience. Nothing else ever comes close to the price or value. (And, he's really, really cheap so price always wins!)

And your right. You wouldn't believe how many people ask me how to plan their Disney vacations and then can't believe it's so inexpensive when I tell them how to go about it!

Chris

We have been every year for the past 12 years sometimes twice a year. I always get the laughs when people ask where we are going and I tell them back to Disney again. I ahve a co-worker that went a few years ago and he said he would never go back because his kids hated it. That was the first time I had ever heard that. Well come to find out he would not let his kids ride any rides or do any shows because he would not stand in line. They could not stay in the parks for more than 4 hours a day because he wanted to go back to the hotle room every afternoon. They were not allowed to eat anything in the parks because it was too expensive. No wonder his kids hated it. Kind of sad he missed the whole point of going and having fun with your kids.

Hey Laurabearz, I live in Berwyn. Let me know next time your coming.

 Hiya Neighbor!
I will expand on my first answer.... On of my preschool mom friends said to me, after she over heard me telling the teacher my daughter would not be in school the following week (back in September) she asked if we were going to WDW again... I sheepishly said yes... and she rolled her eyes and said... GEE you guys go to WDW like we go to Berwyn.... So Berwyn has become our CODE word! :teeth:

Soooooo with that said.... we are leaving for Berwyn tomorrow morning at 5 AM ::yes::

Well.....I don't have any children, I'm now 50 years old, and I'm still Disney World addicted !

My DH and I were at WDW 4 times in a row. He kind of got sick of WDW and of taking ANY vacation at all.
So now, I have also have had 5 SOLO vacations in a row...one week every December.

I cannot even imagine having a vacation where you lay around on a beach all day. I find the idea of a cruise to be too confining. I want to MOVE, and walk a lot, and be intellectually and emotionall stimulated. WDW is then perfect for me.

My first trip also started out as a
"Once in a Lifetime" vacation, and it actually was my first "real" vacation in 13 years.

Yes, people at work make fun of me about it. But...they can see the sparkle in my eyes as I speak of
"The Magic" that not everyone can feel. If you go at the most crowded times, on a really hot day, with cranky kids, you just won't feel the true magic that WDW has to offer.

Actually - alot of people think WDW is ONLY the magic kingdom...calling THAT "Disney"

I have only been to WDW twice and planning my third trip. I get the same thing from family and friends - "why do you want to go there again, it is so expensive." I find that most of these people fit into two categories.

1. They have never been and just don't get it!!
2. They are jealous because they can't go!

Either way, I don't care what they think. Yes, it is expensive, if not, I would be there much more! But isn't it worth it? Do you think you would ever see an Illuminations type display at your local amusement park. Never!! Will you ever have that tingle in your tummy when you walk down main street in MK and see the castle up ahead anywhere else? Never!! That is why we continue to go back. We have reality all of the time, it is the magic we seek trip after trip!
