Pros and Cons??

I'm currently looking at schools back there, and I wanted to hear from you guys what you all think.

I'm talking about Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, ect.

Also too Nashville. I know thats more of the south, but I'd love to hear opinions!

Well I am only a sophomore but I know I'm going to Iowa State. It is a good school, but it really depends on what you want to do. Personally, I have visited the campus many times and it is nice, there are lots of good people(and parties if you are into that) there. You should really consider it.

i'm from near st. louis, missouri, and i love living here.
i don't think i'll ever move out of the midwest.
the weather can suck sometimes, if that really matters to you.
but other than that, it's great.

Frankly, I'm just sick of the heat. I want the true seasons! And its for grad school, sorry, probably should have mentioned that.

I was thinking of st. louis. They have 2 schools there, Wash U and SLU which both have med schools. I know that Wash U is more hoity toity (sp?) but their hospital Barnes has an awesome reputation.

The other place is University of Missouri in Columbia i think.

I had a friend who moved to AZ from Clayton, MO, but I lost contact with her.

I hate it tbh.
In our area there is no diversity, no oppurtunities, the weather is horrible, it's very small towns with nothing to do, it's boring. In the bigger cities, it is okay, but I still think it's cons outweigh the pros, but it might be because I've lived here all my life.

It's nice to drive outside and see fields in the early morning, but after that...nothing.
Our colleges are pretty good so I wouldn't discourage you to check them out, I'm just getting out of here as fast as I can.

Plus we got UPenn, which is fab for med studies.


PS - I'm willing to trade with anyone in Florida too. I REALLY! need that instate tuition rate at UF. I really think it would be good for me to go there. (It's a long story, but they specialize in the rare cancer a few people I know have been touched by and died from and it's just like WOAH!)

Done. High 70s is my prime weather. I can't function well when it's below 60. Unfortunately, it's below 60 for around 350 of my 365 days in a year.

I live in Chicago. Its cool cuz its an awesome city and theres always something to do. The weather here sucks, and Chicagoland is the only non boring place to live in IL.

Since you mentioned Nashville I will have to say Vanderbilt which is a very good school also the University of Tennessee(not in Nashville) has a great medicine program as well

Midwest is awesome, just beware of the weather. It will be beautiful one day, then freezing cold and snowing the next. When it snows, it can really snow and be horrible. Same for heat...some summers can be horrible. But besides that, I love it and wouldn't move out of it for anything!!!

Yes, we have snow. We've had snow since October 15th, but we've seen it as early as the beginning of September. I live 9,000 feet above sea level, on top of a mountain, the highest elevation in my part of PA. And the "winter, more winter, still winter, heat wave" thing is "fall, winter, spring, summer" here. Sub-freezing weather? You betcha. Last friday, I spent my night in 8 degree weather with all my best friends at a packed football stadium. We don't get 50 degrees until the middle of April usually. It's been abnormally warm here though, one day the high is 26 in September, and then in November it's 48 at 12am.

Just because we're south of Canada doesn't mean we don't know what a real winter is like.

OT - but if you remember my friend that died in April, she had Glioblastoma. I've been looking at UF for a while now, but their Neurology Dept. has a new program specializing in Glio. NO ONE specializes in glio so this is a tremendous event. It almost feels like I'm *meant* to go there, you know?

I really hate it.
I live in Michigan and I find it so boring.

I think part of my predjudice is because this is the "last" place I've moved with my parents, and after living twice in California, and Japan, and Singapore, I just like places that are more exciting.

I'm running as fast as I can from the Midwest once I can go to college.

It sucks, because there are some decent schools here but I just can't stand it anymore.

there's a really big concert that happens a few miles from my hometown every summer, and people from all over the country come to it, and think they can handle the heat and laugh at us when we warn them, but when they're in the mud for three days in 110-115 with 80-90% humidity, they tend to think otherwise. haha.
