OP, so glad that you tried it and liked it!
I had never had fondue until a friend and I went to The Melting Pot soon after one opened here. We really loved it and it was nice to share the cost. Since then I have been back with my family when my Mom was visiting and wanted something special and different to do. A few years ago for my birthday DH was out of town so my girls and I went and had cheese and chocolate only. For DD's 9th birthday last year she wanted to go so we went with my in-laws and had a great time. DH really doesn't like it but he isn't much for cheese or chocolate and the concept of paying that much to cook his own food that he doesn't particularly like just blows his mind!
But because my girls and I have enjoyed it so much I got a really nice fondue pot for Christmas about 2 years ago and we have had cheese fondue for Christmas the last few years. And for her birthday last year my older daughter wanted to go to Melting Pot, but instead of spending that much we had a fondue party at home with a few friends and it was great. So then DD10 wanted one for her birthday so we just did another one this weekend with a few of her friends.
It is a nice place for a romantic dinner, but also a fun get together with friends, and if your kids are mature enough a fun family experience. If you want to do it yourself there are plenty of great recipes on the internet. I want to try a broth/chicken, beef, veggies fondue meal in the near future. I will have to wait until a time when DH is out of town though!

). There is a local "knock off" that I like better, less expensive with a little more casual atmosphere but lacking the extensive wine list, but once or twice a year nothing beats The Melting Pot for an anniversary/birthday or other special occasion.
