The melting pot

OP, so glad that you tried it and liked it! :thumbsup2

I had never had fondue until a friend and I went to The Melting Pot soon after one opened here. We really loved it and it was nice to share the cost. Since then I have been back with my family when my Mom was visiting and wanted something special and different to do. A few years ago for my birthday DH was out of town so my girls and I went and had cheese and chocolate only. For DD's 9th birthday last year she wanted to go so we went with my in-laws and had a great time. DH really doesn't like it but he isn't much for cheese or chocolate and the concept of paying that much to cook his own food that he doesn't particularly like just blows his mind!

But because my girls and I have enjoyed it so much I got a really nice fondue pot for Christmas about 2 years ago and we have had cheese fondue for Christmas the last few years. And for her birthday last year my older daughter wanted to go to Melting Pot, but instead of spending that much we had a fondue party at home with a few friends and it was great. So then DD10 wanted one for her birthday so we just did another one this weekend with a few of her friends.

It is a nice place for a romantic dinner, but also a fun get together with friends, and if your kids are mature enough a fun family experience. If you want to do it yourself there are plenty of great recipes on the internet. I want to try a broth/chicken, beef, veggies fondue meal in the near future. I will have to wait until a time when DH is out of town though!

We like to go on Thursday because the location near us has ladies night. It's $19 for cheese, salad and chocolate.

I love it, but we go during the day (ours is open for lunch because it is in an area of office buildings; many locations don't open until dinner) when it is quieter (and our kids are in school ;) ). There is a local "knock off" that I like better, less expensive with a little more casual atmosphere but lacking the extensive wine list, but once or twice a year nothing beats The Melting Pot for an anniversary/birthday or other special occasion.

Sign up for their email list. I think that every one does their own thing as far as special nights like this. Ours has a "Ladies Night" about once a month and they send me an email. I think it is cheese, entree and dessert for $25 pp here. And it really is nice with girlfriends to be able to relax and talk for a few hours. When we go to a regular restaurant we end up finishing with dinner long before we are finished talking!

Ours does the same on the same night and they invite different vendors in like Lia Sophia, silpada(Spelling), home party type vendors that cater to women!

WOW that sounds awesome!! I should look into that! My besties would love a night out like that without the kiddies!!:goodvibes

I really liked that we had to interact so much to eat. Not that we dont talk when we go out to eat its just we spend so much time just eating that it was nice to take things slow and eat and cook together! It was fun! Next time I go I would like to try the mexican cheese and filet mignon and the smores desert. No chicken for us which will make the dinner $55 which is not bad at all!! I cant wait to go again!

My work requires to be in RI quite often, so I've met a friend from MA for dinner at the Melting Pot twice. We did just the cheese/salad/dessert and loved it! Agreed, the restaurant is very longgg. It's interesting. We had a fabulous waitress the first time and a so-so one the second time-- she was fine, just a bit annoying and acted like she was doing us a huge favor when we asked for more dessert dippers. We had half a pot of chocolate left-- if it wasn't allowed, fine. But then, say no-- don't roll your eyes and huff and then come back with a to-go box of strawberries (???)
You have to try the fiesta (mexican-style) cheese-- absolutely delicious, especially with the tortilla chips they give you. I'm never had the entrees, so I can't comment on the filet, but I do know I'll never try a different chocolate than the s'mores. So delicious!! I'm so glad we have a MP here in NY (White Plains, half hour away)-- I can't speak highly enough of them, and glad you love it now, too!
