The Melting Pot.....

grrrrr. I want to go SO BADLY! I haven't been in years. We almost dragged the kids to "family night" at our local one on Sunday even though DS was still in his football clothes because I wanted to go so badly.

I went once and was incredibly underwhelmed. We had the Big Night Out dinner. I liked the cheese fondu alright and the dessert was OK, but the dinner one (we chose a wine something or other, I think) was rather blah.

Because of all of the oil pots on the tables for frying, my wool coat smelled like french fries for a few days - grody to the max!

Was our first trip (the one here is fairly new). When DH made the reservation he told them we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. They saved the best table for us....it was very private. They even had a card waiting on the table that had been signed by many of the staff wishing us a Happy Anniversary.:)

They recommended several times the 4 course special (Alpine something). We had already looked over the menu online several times though and decided to choose from the traditional menu.

We had the Traditional Swiss Cheese fondue - it was good but I think I would have liked the cheddar more.

DH had the Caesar salad, I had the Spinach Mushroom.

For our Main we used the traditional court bullion (not sure I spelled that right) and I had the Land & Sea (DH ate my shrimp....I can't stand them) and DH had the French Quarter.

And lastly we had the Cookies & Cream........It was WONDERFUL!!!!!!

Melting Pot is my favorite restaurant!!!

Isn't that place the best, DH took me there 2 years ago for our 15th anniversay. We also went a couple months ago just for a night out without the kids, unfortunetly out Melting Pot closed down right after that with no signs of re-opening. :confused3 and :sad2:

I'm glad you enjoyed it I think its a really cool experience. :cool1:

I find The Melting Pot underwhelming as well. Fondue is all about the quality of ingredients and the sauces. The former is pretty decent the latter, very lacking.

If you're ever in Chicago, go to Gejas, it makes The Melting Pot seem like the McDonald's of Fondue restaurants.

I love the Melting Pot. Now I'm in the mood for some cheese fondue...

Melting Pot?????

What is this? LOL, yes I get it's a restaurant, but is it all fondue stuff? That sounds like HEAVEN!!!! Unfortunately, I have NEVER had any kind of fondue, but everytime time I see it on TV, I want to lick the TV screen. It looks sooooo yummy. I really want to try a cheese one, one of those that you cook the meat in and definately the chocolate one. MMMMMMMMMMM

I have never seen one of those in these parts of the woods. Are they basically in the big cities? Any in CT, RI or MA???

We went to the Melting Pot on New year's Eve, and had a blast. The chocolate for dessert was amazing. If I could've stuck my face in the pot, I would've. The cheese fondue would've been better if they didn't put the wine in with it. I detest wine in cooking....gross.

But the meat was awesome. We had the vegetable based boulion.

Somebody mentioned that their jacket smelled of fry oil...odd since they don't use oil. It's broth.

I love the Melting Pot!! Ours opened last year, and I've been twice (once for our anniversary, and once for girls night). The food is great, and the service (at our location, anyway) is PHENOMENAL!! Both times I went, they bent over backwards to make sure we had a good experience. Service is lacking in a lot of restaurants these days, so when we experience great service, we are blown away!:thumbsup2

Looks like there are some in all three states you mentioned.

I agree! I thought it gave the cheese a funny taste and would have been better without the wine and brandy they added to it.

I think at some Melting Pots you can get the oil though I don't know why anyone would. That IS gross.

The court bouillon is excellent as is the coq au vin and the mojo sauce.

The mojo sounded good to me.....going to have to try that next time.

I think our server did mention an oil but said that it was difficult to cook with and if you were new to the fondue experience it was very easy to burn your food in the oil.

DW & I go to the MP several times a year. Good stuff.:)

Our first MP trip was fantastic. Second one was not as good. Dessert is amazing, though. Very fun having all of the fruits and cakes and such to dip and we love the Yin-Yang mix of white and dark or milk chocolate. We would happily go just for dessert.

I LOVE to go to the melting pot for the cheese and dessert part. What's not to love about melted cheese and melted chocolate. :cool1:
