So we made resservations for this place for New year's Eve. It's pricey, but I'vealways wanted to try it. I've heard some good things and wanted to know if anyone here has ever been there. It's a fixed menu for the evening. I SO rarely get to go out to anyplace fancy-pants, so I am really stoked! Get to dress nice and everything!

I see you are from the Triad! I went to the Melting Pot in Greensboro back in 2002. Valentine's dinner with DH. Its a lovely spot!

I love The Melting Pot. Expect to be there a while, I think they usually tell you 3 hours. How many are going? You'll have a blast.

It's a fun place to eat! Be warned, it takes a long time to eat as you're cooking your own food as you go. Be SURE to leave room for DESSERT!!!:lovestruc

We love the Melting Pot:love: It is a bit pricey, and I hear the comment "it's so expensive for what you get." I think I understand that when people see bits of uncooked food come out they think "I paid big bucks for this???" However, you will not come away hungry, the service is usually very good, and the food is so tasty. You'll savor each bite rather than wolf down a big dinner like so many of us do.** Our MP here ranges from casual (nice jeans or shorts) to upscale casual. I'm sure on NYE there will be others dressed up for the occasion, so wear what you like. They have some mighty tasty cocktails too so you might take a look at the drink menu before you go. Oh, and if there's a salad with some almonds or something it is reallllyyyy good.
Have a great night out.:)

**FWIW-I'm a guy who has been known to put away some pretty big meals but I come away from MP PLENTY full.

I was just there about a month ago for a "Ladies Night Out Breast Cancer Fundraiser". It was terrific. We also had a set menu and it had a bit of everything. It was wonderful!

Greensboro is closed for renovations. We had to make reservations at the Charlotte location. The manager emailed me the menu after I made the ressie. Apparently they also send you home with a bunch of goodies (chocolate and cheese). Includes dessert and champagne too! $150/couple.

Reservation at 7pm for 4 (me, DH and mom and dad). That'll be great if it's that long. We only see my parents once or twice a year so it'll give us gab time and we'll still be home in time to watch the ball drop.

I enjoy it.

However, from experience--it is A LOT of food.

In the future, if i go--I would omit the main course (the meats) and stick with just the cheese so that I have room for the chocolate. ;) (or omit the cheese and do just the meat.)

I also recommend their strawberry martini--though i am blanking on the name. It is delicious.

The only bummer of the whole experience, unlike other establishments--it isn't like you can take home the leftovers. ;)

We save it for very special occasions as it is a very lengthy date and my kids are too young for me to want to invest that time there with them. (One does not eat cheese and thus would starve until the meats arrive popcorn::.)

Ooooh, I love The Melting Pot! DH and I have been numerous times and it's always delish. It is a leisurely meal which I find very relaxing. Plenty of time to chat and enjoy your family and food. Trust me, you will not leave hungry! Have a great time.:goodvibes

ETA: Be sure to pace yourself so that you do not miss out on the chocolate fondue for dessert. And they'll bring you more of anything too like extra marshmallows, brownie, cheesecake, pound cake, strawberries and now I'm starving! Seriously, their dessert fondue is so good that if I didn't think it was unlady-like, I'd have licked that fondue pot clean!

DW and I love the Melting Pot. It does cost a lot for what you get, but the whole experience of the meal is worth it. Since you do have to cook your own food you do eat slower than at a normal meal so you will feel stuffed at the end of thee meal. The dessert is the best part. You should have a fantastic time.

Actually dd and I take home the raw meat we don't eat. I know sounds kinda gross, but I cook it at home on skewers on the grill next day for lunch. So yummy.

We have a Melting Pot here in Tucson and we love it! It can get quite pricey if you're taking a gang of people out to eat, but it's truly a unique dining experience. We have a particular waitress that we like to request at the Tucson location. She is a riot and makes the whole experience even more enjoyable! The booths for two with the curtains are kind of fun to eat at, too!

We love The Melting Pot!! We also have NY Eve reservations!! I received an email about the NY Eve menu and it looks great! Price isn't too bad for what you receive. We go there about 3-4 times a year. Just love it. Like others have said, it does take about 3 hours to dine but it's fun and it doesn't seem like you are there that long. My favorite salad is the California Salad, it is wonderful!!! The cheese is to die for and so is the chocolate!

Have a wonderful time!!!

For the price I wasn't overally impressed with the Melting Pot in St. Louis. It is worth checking out once I would say, deffinitely different from others.

I love the Melting Pot! Its my 10 year old daughters favorite place to eat! For her birthday and Christmas she asked for Melting Pot gift cards! She will have enough to go twice!

I guess I must be the only one who hated it. I was revolted by the raw meat on the table & then having to eat what was essentially boiled meat. Yuck! Big waste of $200 for the three of us.

I hope you have a better experience!

Nope. I hate it. We've been twice and I'm just not a fan. I hate going out to dinner on my night off and having to cook my own food. Basically boiling meat in broth, and I could do that at home much cheaper.

However, I would have no problem going some night to sit at the bar for drinks and dessert. They have an incredible drink menu and their are tons of all kinds of different chocolate fondues

*I* love MP! LOVE it. I've been twice. The first time when on vaca with my BFF. The 2nd was in May with dh for our anniversary. *He* hated it. Thought it was ridiculously expensive for 'boiled meat' that he had to cook himself. :rotfl2: That said, though, he did love the cheese fondue and really loved the chocolate fondue, especially after the waiter brought him a plate of just rice krispie treats which dh LOVES. I would try to go for cooking oil if you can, rather than in the wine or broth. The wine really colors the meat, which was a turnoff for dh (and I assume other people as well) and also in the oil it's more 'fried'-like and less 'boiled'.

The atmosphere is lovely, though, he admitted that. We had a nice intimate table and were completely unrushed.
