The Med Thread - All Sailings - Mediterranean

Having stayed in Barcelona before I can confirm the above its not far, taxi, coach, train transfers all available to central Barce but care, if at the end of the cruise you wish to go to the airport, it will be rush hour most likly on a weekday and you may have many cruise ships off loading cruisers all at the same time so for that book DCL or something in advance othewise lots available. Care the rush hour will slow traffic down at peak hours itsa busy city, Trains are very good every 30 mins.

:rolleyes1 I just created a new excursions PDF because since I made my first one the website has been updated with more info. I don't think any of the excursions themselves have changed, but the additional information section is now filled in. Also, on the Barcelona excursions they have when they will be offering the excursions. and as a side note as I was compiling this it seems many excursions will not allow any wheelchairs ... so if that is a concern you should check out the excursions carefully.:confused3

:yay: If you want the new and improved pdf pm me,otherwise I think my old one wouldn't have any major changes.

At the "top" of Las Rambles is the Plaza Del Catalunya (it's been a while since I've read up on Barcelona) and from the plaza there are two options (well at least 3).
1) is the AeroBus that runs 2 or 3 times per hour to the airport and
2) the metro / train (RenFe) that goes to the airport and runs 2-4 times per hour.
ok, #3) is catching a taxi from here.

The biggest problem with this is that it's probably about 1 1/2 - 2 miles from the ship.

I bet that there is a metro station close to the port where you could at least make connections to the train to the airport.

Funnybunny, this is good info. I've started an Excursion thread. Could you post this info there also? Btw, we decided on Swiss from Chicago-Zurich-Barcelona rt. It was something like $750 plus tax. This is for late July.

I hope you have made your reservations by now. When I called four months ago things were a bit scarce. The best flight from Orlando to Barcelona is on US Air via Phila to Barcelona. This one is also more expensive. Now that I think about what we are going through to get to and return from Barcelona this might be a better option.

We are taking the June 16th sailing.

:cool1:

Tomorrow night on the travel chanel, there is supposed to be special about Barcelona :happytv:

The show is called "Not Your Average Travel Guide" and the Barcelona episode is supposed to air at 10:00 p.m. EST tonight (Saturday, January 6). Our cable guide station says tonight's episode is about Munich :confused3 however I did see a commercial for the Barcelona show that specifically stated it was on tonight at 10 p.m.

My cable gude has the Barcelona show airs at 10:30! The 10:00 is on Munich.:thumbsup2

Hi - I'm new to this thread and I'm on the June 6th 10 night cruise. I'm just about to make my airline reservation. Has anyone heard if we can make a return flight that leaves at 11:30 AM? I'm trying to book British Airways to Denver and the only flight is at 11:30 and I don't want to wait and leave the next day. The itinerary says we arrive in port at 6:45. Do you think I can make it for an 11:30 flight. I've made flights by that time when cruising out of Port Canaveral, but I'm not sure with an international flight. Thanks!

you should be able to make it. I asked dcl when we need to be off the boat and they said by 9am. So it should not be a problem. You can call and double check with Customer Service. Our flight is around noon...i'm just worried about the transfer as I could not use disney (they don't do one way) so I'll be waiting with everyone else for a taxi.

Thanks Taysmom. I did call customer service and they thought 11:30 would be fine, but the person I spoke with didn't seem very confident. I guess I'm just nervous! We've been on 4 Disney cruises out of Port Canaveral and I've never been to Europe so I feel a bit out of my element. I am getting excited and have been waiting to book my airline reservations because I've been researching to see which airline might have the most comfortable seats for a "pooh size" person like me. I don't want to be squished in for the long flight. I've decided to go with British Airways because they have a premier economy class with more leg room and seat width and I think this will make our flight more comfortable.

I talked to DCL last week. The gal looked it up on her computer and said Disney was suggesting no flights before 10:30 a.m. so you should be fine. We're booked on a 10:55 a.m. flight. When we arrive in Barcelona, I'm going to ask about reserving a taxi or limo for the ride back to the airport to make sure we can get one in time to catch our flight.

Thanks everyone, I feel better booking my flights now. Now to look at all the excursion information. It's a cold day here in Colorado, so I'm vacation planning!

Hi Ruth,

What is your sail date? Usually you don't find out about the guarantee cabin until about a month before.

Which cabin number did you request? Are you bringing any children with you on the cruise? If so how old?

We will be on the June 16th sail date.

patricia thanks for the info..i'll tell you each time you call dcl I get a different response to each question. I will call again tomorrow and ask about one way. I have heard lots of people say that offloading is potentially the hardest as there could be more than 1 ship at port. I found the travel channel show it's on at 7:30 in california. I have it tivo'd!

Oh good! What is the name of the excursion thread so I can subscribe to it?

Gloria, hi. it's under the Cruise Forum, and believe it or not, I don't recall the title, but I think it's under Mediterranean Excursions. See you there.

Joe
