Day 2, Part 2 In Which I Don't Even Have A Joke Because The Morning Was Practically Perfect!
The Magic Kingdom was finally open and we flew in at the speed of light. Except... we didn't! We weren't running to be first at the big attractions, we were just interested in going slow and taking it all in. We're details kind of people.
I took some random pictures while walking in:
Well, that took long! But yes, finally, we are at an actual Disney theme park!
SIGH!!!!!!!!
God, this part of the trip is always so exciting. Finally back at a park. I can breathe again!
The plan was to head to the Main Street Bakery for breakfast in the form of delicious ice cream sandwiched between two large chocolate chip cookies. Of course, we just ended up wandering around Main Street for awhile, not hungry for food yet, just hungry for Disney World.
Taking it all in.
Sigh. So beautiful.
On my childhood trips to WDW, for some reason we would always start in Tomorrowland and go counter clockwise around the lands, therefore we ended up spending the most time in Tomorrowland seeing every little thing and the least time in Adventureland. Because of this, Tomorrowland feels very "home" like to me, like I used to live there or something. On my past two trips, I made it a point to visit Adventureland first, but this time I decided to head to Tomorrowland first like old times.
Ah, home.
I've never been at a park at opening before - i'm impressed by the ghost town that Tomorrowland is at 9am. We got fast passes for Space Mountain. The line said 20 minutes, and though it seemed much shorter (the line hadn't reached outside of the building yet, so all but the Fastpass area looked deserted), I wanted to head to Fantasyland and do some of the dark rides before those lines got too long.
I love entering Fantasyland through the "back", AKA right by the Speedway and Mad Tea Party.
My mom gets a phone call from my dad, and for some reason can not master walking and talking at this very moment, so we stop by the tea cups. I'm annoyed - it's my first morning in WDW, my first opening ever at the MK, I wanna go! I wanna see! I wanna fly with Peter Pan! I want to see some Grim Grinning Ghosts! I want to dive head first into the Briar Patch! Let's GOOOOO!!
I took a couple pictures:
The phone call lasts longer than I'd like. Mom gets a coffee at the Enchanted Grove. I decide to let the annoyance and anger go because I'M AT DISNEY WORLD. It's all good. I start skipping around (Too excited to stand still!), enjoying the Alice in Wonderland (one of my all time favorite stories, and Disney movies) music. I didn't ride Mad Tea Party because 1) I'm not that crazy about it and 2) the line was already quite long and I assumed as soon as I waited for 5 minutes, my mom would be ready to move on.
I spot two of my favorites... Alice and the White Rabbit! Oh, Mr. Rabbit! Mr. Rabbit! Wait! PLEASE!
Of course I didn't go over, in fact, we got NO pictures with any characters besides those at 1900 Park Fare. It's something I really want to do more of on the next trip. I used to meet every character growing up, but I guess now the long lines just seem like a waste of time.
FINALLYfinallyfinaaaaaaallly we walk through Fantasyland.
I see Ariel's Grotto is already closed - bummer, they said it would be closed a few days from now, and I had wanted to go over there one last time. I tell my mom about the expansion, and how this is probably the last time we'll see Fantasyland like this.
Our first attraction this trip ended up being one of the first I ever went on in my life - Peter Pan's Flight!
This is one of my favorites - it is one of the few rides I remember from my very first trip at the age of four. I was absolutely, one hundred percent captivated and in awe. I thought we were really flying. I tell my mom this as we wait on the line (Less than 5 minutes) and she lets out a giant "AAAAAWWWW!!!"
Next we head to another favorite - It's A Small World. I know people find the song annoying but I never have, I love it. Every time I read a TR where someone is like "It's a Small World! GROAN!" I'm just confused, LOL. I really love this ride. Again, it's one I remember from my very first WDW trip. Also, it makes me laugh because when I was that age, my best friend was Melissa, who was at our house all the time. As the boat went past the little hula girls, my dad yelled out "Look! That one looks just like Melissa!" and did it on every single trip we took after that. So of course as my mom and I pass the hula girls, we say HI to Melissa! I have a feeling it's one of those things that will go on and on. My great grandchildren will be saying hello to Melissa!
It was time for our Space Mountain ride, so we head back across Fantasyland and to Space. This was our first time on Space since the rehab, and WOW! I've always loved this ride, but it's even BETTER now! It felt faster, it definitely was darker, and just overall WAY more fun! I hadn't even told my mom that they rehabbed it, and she noticed a change anyway, so that's the true test of it and they passed!
We spend some time in the dump shop looking for Astronaut Ice Cream, which they end up not having here so I suggest we visit Mickey's Star Traders later on. We get candy instead. They had Rascals - I LOVE these, and they're really rare. Mom gets a mix of candy, and we shop a bit.
I found these stuffed animals interesting, it's always cool to see a new take on the animation:
After this we decide we're hungry for more than just candy, but don't want to eat a lot because we have a late lunch/early dinner ADR at one of our favorite places and we really want to be hungry for that. I just want some fries, so we pop into Cosmic Ray's, but decide to go to go back through Fantasyland to
Pinocchio's Village Haus instead.
I LOVE the theming in here and I love the location. I even love the weird, uppity German music that plays throughout. I wish they'd sell the delicious pretzels and German chocolate here like at the WS in Epcot!
We get one order of fries and a coke to share. My mom, who doesn't read Trip Reports, sits at one of the many empty tables nearby. I tell her to get up, we're going to sit someplace special!
I know from reading God knows who's trip report that there is a special balcony that overlooks Fantasyland that no one ever goes up to. I look around a bit and find the stairs. Mom follows. There's actually two balconies, an indoor one that overlooks the restaurant, and then the outdoor one you access from the indoor one. I wanted to sit outside, but the door was locked. I still like sitting up here better than the ground floor.
We eat the fries in like two seconds so Mom goes down to get more. I forgot to take a picture, but we all know what WDW fries look like right??
I love the chairs here:
And here's the outdoor balcony we couldn't get to!
It would have been reaaallllly awesome to sit out there (have any of you? I want to see some pics!) so I think I might ask someone next time we visit.
