The March 2014 Thread!!!!

We got the flash drive - I haven't watched it, but DH did. Basically he go from it that I shouldn't worry about FP + bc the video said regular FP will still be an option (I'm not counting on that) - anyone else notice it saying that? Which brings me to my question - I am close to the date to make my FP+ Reservations and I am clueless. Anyone care to share your strategy? All the threads on it are so overwhelming, not sure what I should plan a fastpass for or when to schedule it. Or even how to do it - I guess through MDE?

I watched the videos in closed caption and I didn't see a reference to traditional fastpasses. :confused3

It is hard to schedule the fp+'s. We were there in the first week of December and ended up using only a few of the original fp+ reservations. Test Track and TSMM were two of the ones that we made sure not to miss. Most of the time we decided not to go to the parks I had scheduled or not to go on the rides I had reserved. In fact, we didn't go on too many rides at all on that trip. We had the best time, though, maybe because it was Christmas and there was plenty to do there without worrying about the rides.

Here was/is my strategy:

1. reserve fp+'s for the most crowded rides, the ones they call the e-ticket rides, near the times you have an ADR

2. since most rides are walk-ons first thing in the morning, I made all my fp+'s for late afternoon and evening. When we used a fp+ in the evening, the fp line was empty. The fp return lines tend to be very long in the mornings because so many people schedule them for mornings.

3. I used the crowd calendars to get an idea of which parks to do that day, then scheduled the fp+ for that park

4. It is very easy to change times and attractions while you are in the park for most of the rides, except the e-ticket ones. Try not to miss your fp+ reservation for those few rides, because it will be hard to reschedule them. Most of the other rides are easy to reschedule. We were able to reschedule a fp+ for Buzz Lightyear and walk on the ride five minutes later, bypassing a 25 minute standby line.

Other things I learned:

1. if a ride that you had a fp+ for goes down, you can get in the fp return line for another ride, just tell the CM that your original ride is down. We had a fp+ for BMRR which was down when we went to it. We were able to ride Haunted Mansion and still reschedule the BMRR for another ride.

2. If you miss a fp+ reservation you can reschedule it for later that day. You don't lose your chance to have three fp+ reservations in a day. They do expire the next day, though, so you have to use them that day.

3. If you decide to cancel your fp+'s at one park in order to go to another park at the last minute, while riding the bus in, or something like that, you might have to wait until you are in the park before you can schedule new ones. We cancelled our HS fp+'s while riding the boat to MK. The app wouldn't let me make fp+'s for MK until after I had gotten into the park.

If the app doesn't seem to want to do what you want, like schedule a fp+, just shut it down, wait awhile, then go back in. Sometimes databases need to reset or record the data. I saved myself a lot of time and worry by just closing down the program for a short time rather than trying to fight with it. My MB suddenly refused to work on a purchase and to open our resort room. I just waited a few hours and then it magically started to work again. :)

Found it! Thanks!

No problem!

Wood Nymph- that was a lot of great information and first hand experience on the MB! Thank you so much! I will have to copy and paste that into my trip plans so I can remember! And thanks for the head's up about just giving the system some time! :goodvibes You are right, computers need time to "think" sometimes and we'd all do well to remember that! :rotfl:

Interesting…. I'm going to do some more research on this new theory I have….

We didn't use a TA and did not get a flash drive. We did get a little booklet with FP+ info just the other day, the 26th I think. We never got an email, but on the 22nd, I had to change our reservation. My mom is now on her own reservation/own room. But I made it, and used my email. The next day I got a detailed FP email for her. I have never gotten a PIN, and now I have no doubt that I will get them in the future....for her! Lol.

Very helpful, thank you! I'm working on our plans right now. We can make our FP+ selections on Tuesday.

Thank you - very helpful!

I have not been on the boards in sooooooo long. I lost my Disney spirit for a while. Unfortunately I am having issues with my left leg and will be having laser surgery at some point. I had to follow insurance's protocol to even be considered, and I'm in limbo until the insurance approves the procedure. Our trip is getting closer, and I cannot walk around walmart on a bad day!!! :worried: I hope to be scheduled SOON because March is right around the corner and I'm unsure what the recovery time will be!! All that standing and walking so soon after my procedure might not be a good idea. I'm trying to get back into planning mode because at worst, we'll rent a wheelchair. I'm not crazy about that idea but it won't be the first time my husband wheels me around DW!

Oh no!! Hopefully you will get your approval quickly and you will be able to go on your trip!! Have you thought about renting a scooter? I have heard wonderful things about the Apple Scooters stroller rentals, so I know the company is really good.

I can't speak to Apple Scooters, other than what I see here. Some is good, some is bad. But I have to rent a scooter every time I go, and the best place I've found is AA Tourist Rental. They aren't a preferred partner (which just means that the scooter can't be left with bell services) but they have the most reasonable prices and best service of all the companies I've dealt with. (Had a scooter break down in the back side of Epcot once, and a replacement was waiting under the goofball before I managed to get there.)

We're officially booked, March 17th-22nd at the Wilderness Lodge. :thumbsup2

To add discussion to the FP+ rumor and speculation mill, I was hard sold the magic bands, after I politely, yet adamantly, stated I didn't want them. I was told that in order to participate in FP+ I had to have them. I asked what my options for FP were with my KTTW cards, and she said that while it *May* be available in the MK, that I would basically be relegated to participants of FP+'s leftovers. She said I could be the first person through the gate, run back to SM, grab the first FP- of the day, and have it not be until 6pm that night or later,.considering it will be one of the busiest times.of year.

I took the magic bands. I don't feel good about that though.

As we approach the 60 day mark of our offsite stay my anxiety is building. As far as I know offsite guests do not have access to fp+ and I have read reports that paper fastpass machines have been removed. One poster suggested that we reserve a night in a hotel and then link our reservation to our tickets in order to make fp+ reservations. At $200. for one night at Pop, it seems rather pricey to this thrify New Englander. Yet I must say I'd be willing to pay an up charge to be able to access fp+. So the anxiety builds as I try to decide what type and the number of days to purchase.

Does anyone know if you get access to fp+ by purchasing an annual pass and not having a hotel reservation. I'm thinking this must be possible to accommodate those living locally.

Disney is changIng the rules on fp+ all the time. What is true for today may not be the way it will be in March. It is true that if an AP holder has MBs from a recent resort stay that they are able to make fp+ reservations for any seven consecutive days in a row, I can do it right now, in fact. But we don't know if a resort reservation will be required by March.. I know that initially they were going to allow AP holders to book fp+ without a resort stay but they were having trouble getting it to work. Maybe they will have it up by March. No one knows yet.
