You asked for it!

DS was born 3 weeks early due to sudden onset pre-eclampsia accompanied by severe pregnancy-induced hypertension. My LOWEST BP reading that day was 206/121. THey moved a woman in active labor out of her room, so I could be directly across form the nursing station. THey had paddles out in the room, a nurse wiht me at all times, and a cardiologist on call. For some reason, they hooked me up to pitocin. After 12.5 hours of horrible pitocin-induced back labor with no drugs, DS started to spike, and had to be removed via emergency c-section. It turned out he was crooked, and they had been feeling his shoulder instead of head in the birth canal. He almost broke his neck, he was shoved so hard into the birth canal. My BP spiked so bad in the OR, I started to hallucinate, lost my ability to interact with others. I apparently turned white, started drooling and babbling incoherently, and started to shake. THey THREW DH out of the OR, and had to knock me out to get my BP down. DH was sure that was the last time he was going to see me alive. I almost died a few times in there, and the dr is still surprised we both (me and ds) lived though the birth. (se's a friend of mine now)

I spent 3 months on BP pills to try to regulate my BP, then had to go off of them, because I gave DH a "christmas present" and I got PREGNANT AGAIN!! :scared1:

FWIW - the only problems I had with DD were pregnancy induced hyperthyroidism, hyperemesis, and gall-badder sludge....all of which I had had during my first pregnancy, too. (and severe strss and fear!) SHe was breech and born via c-section 12 months and 35 hours after her brother.

Now: MORE UPDATES, Buzz, please!!

Oh My God! Did you continue to have BP problems afterwards?
My friend had twins 2 years ago, she almost died too. Her BP has always been high since the birth of the boys.

Ooooh, this is fun. I will chime in on this topic too....

I went into the hospital at 11:00pm on a Saturday Night, they tried to induce labor becasue I was bleeding ang they could not tell where the blood was coming from (It was mine not baby's). At 2:33 am Monday morning Jimmy was born C-Secition weighing 6lbs 7ox (he just didn't want to come into the world normally;) ) Was in NICU for 8 days on a vent (merconium) and then in Pediatric rehab for 8 more days.

Buzz, you really better come back soon and post an update or we are all going to all start postring pictures of our scars:scared1: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My friend had twins 2 years ago, she almost died too. Her BP has always been high since the birth of the boys.

Before DS, I had lowish BP (100/60 usually) Since I had DS, my bp is usually between 120/80 and 130/90. Borderline high, but not requiring meds. High BP runs in my family, too.

After DS, I told DH I didn't want any more kids. He agreed. If I hadn't acidenally gotte pregnant, I never would have had my beautiful DD. Fate was looking out for me that year.....butI still kicked DH out of the bedroom the following Xmas. :goodvibes

2 kids, conceived on the same day 1 year apart = separate bedrooms onthat day in year 3.

Oh, and DH got "the snip" shortly after I got pregnant the 2nd time. :scared:

There guys, gross enough for ya?!?!

Disneyolic, I too was pre eclampsea. not that bad though. Nova went full term and then some. Glad to see it all worked out. What is HELLP syndrome?
Thanks. I've never known a full-term baby, and I'm glad for that!

I can't quite beat it, ;) but I am curious... How long was he in the NICU?
Evan was in the NICU for 6 weeks and came home at exactly 4 pounds and on a cardiac/apnea monitor. The only signs of this traumatic start in life was his fine motor skills as a toddler (fine now) and a learning disability (that is being worked on in the school system).

You asked for it!
Yup! Pretty bad! My actual c-section went smoothly. The doctor just kept saying over and over and over again that I was lucky I called his office in pain. I was po'd because I told the midwife about the pain 3 days prior and a sono showed that Evan's growth was stunted. She sent me home with breathing exercises and a f/u appointment for the following week. When the upper abdominal pain because excruciating I called again wherein I was sent immediately to the hospital. I sometimes freak out and am glad that I didn't just wait for my next appointment.

Anyone that doesn't know what HELLP syndrome is:

HELLP is an abbreviation of the main findings:[1]

Hemolytic anemia (breaking down of red blood cells)
Elevated Liver enzymes and
Low Platelet count (possibility of bleeding to death).

They wouldn't let me even sit up in bed for 4 days after the c-section for fear I would bleed out. I had someone coming in every 4 hours for blood tests and needed a platelet transfusion.

The only other complication I had with pregnancy was gestational diabetes with my 3rd baby and that went on to be type 2 diabetes.

Wow what's happened here :rotfl:

I'm afraid I'm really boring both straight forward births Jess took 6 1/2 hours with pain relief and Ellie only an hour with nothing  I daren't have another one as I'd never get to hospital :rotfl:

I had severe pre-eclampsia with my first and had him 8 weeks early. He spent 2 weeks in the NICU. Miraculously (is that a word?), he didn't have any lasting problems! The fact that I was only 19 at the time made it very scary.
