I had acrylic nails put on before I went to Disney last summer and I couldn't believe the havoc they did to my nails. I used to have acrylic nails for years until I decided to finally quit (not to mention save some money). I got gel manicures for a few months after I had the nails taken off. I really enjoyed them, as they would last for three weeks, look shiny and never peel. However, my nails are a complete wreck. I stopped with the gel manicures after Christmas and my nails are a mess; peeling, chipping, hurting, etc., not to mention they are so weak. I've been sticking too regular manicures but I'm so sick of going to the salon every week. I wish I could paint my own nails, but  it comes out horrible! lol.

Anyway, does anyone have any recs for a nail strengthener/grower? I'm desperate! :guilty:

I have gotten shellac nails twice now and I love it. They have lasted about three weeks before they start peeling. I get the French so it looks good while growing out. They haven't damaged my nails yet, I love it they don't break and they are very shiny! I don't think I'll buy the home kit I don't like painting my nails, just do it a few times a year as a treat I guess.

I love my new clarisonic! Thanks for the advice, I would have never went for it otherwise. Skin is so smooth, looking forward to reducing pore size after awhile.

For healthy skin/ hair/ nails take a vitamin called Biotin. I take 1 pill 5000mg a day.

ME TOO! It was recommended by my dermatologist.

Should I be happy or sad? My son's gf just got a job at ULTA....she will get me a 25% discount on prestige make up and 50% on hair products etc. If they have a show on tv called MAKE UP HOARDERS I am already the star. Happy for the discount ....sad because I do not know if I can control myself.

I usually pay 50.00 for my shampoo and conditioner...it will be only 25 FOR BOTH not to mention all that make up. Good thing (or bad?) Ulta does not carry all the top lines like YSL , Guerlain and Dior.

how do you guys get the shellac or the gellish off? it tore up my nails (but looked good before I had to try to remove it).
Another question - how are you guys organizing your makeup? I am accumulating a lot and want to find a good way to organize it all.

One of my friends just took off her shellac polish. She had to use acetone and now her nails look terrible.

Her nails were very pretty before the shellac polish was put on (salon mani). Her experience alone is keeping me away from it. I'll stick with having to re-do my nails every 5 or six days.

i pick and peel off my gelac, but i have very stong nails to begin with, and its does not damage, and its kinda fun :) i saw at the salon they soak your nails in something and then scrape it off, but it cost $15 for the removal. I did see the at home kit on the today show the other morning and it came with a remover then you wrapped your nails in foil.

I have a draw in my vainity for shadow, which is organized then two that are a mess and mixed up. I have a train case and that is organized in each compartment for an item type. Bottom line...when you get a lot of make up it is hard to organize it. If you look toward the beginning of the thread you will see that we toyed with the idea of getting one of those rolling chests like mechanics use.

This actually makes me kind of happy because now I now I will not be doing this. I was on the fence about it before but my nails are thin and peeling due to application of fake nails YEARS ago. I will just keep doing my nails as I always have. I do like Butter top coat (Hardware) it is really good and lasts a looooooooooong time.

Okay you are going to make me say it again .....you were right. It is better than the Olay.

I didn't know you said it once! Yay! Glad you love it. I looooove it too.

how do you guys get the shellac or the gellish off? .

I actually had some put on before a Disney trip, one year. It started coming off (I dont think she did it right), so I had to Google how to get it off.

A run to Wal Mart for ~ Cotton Balls, Acetone, Orange Wood Sticks & Aluminum Foil.

I soaked the balls in Acetone, but them on my finger tips, put a wad of Aluminum Foil around them, and sat there.

They slid right off. The orange wood sticks weren't even needed.

If they have a show on tv called MAKE UP HOARDERS I am already the star. .

You and me both.

And perfume... I bought one just yesterday (just YESTERDAY, I was at Epcot *sniffle*) Dior Diorissimo. Yummo. :flower3:

I bought this last year from qvc and it's wonderful. It isn't too large and holds quite a bit.

Now, if you're a serious hoarder, this is my daughter's setup:
She has 2 of these lingerie cabinets filled with makeup and nail polish on either side of the vanity. The vanity drawer has about 100 mineral pigments.

can you give a link to the top one? I never thought of an amoire....pretty and useful! I have one already but it is filled with jewelry. I am also a jewelry hoarder. Apparently I have an addictive personality...lucky for me the things I hoard are small enough to fit in drawers. LOL.

HOw long does it take? How much approx does the initial set up cost? What do you need? Does it wreck your nails? I already have peeling nails. I usually polish on Sunday night and then touch up for the next five days. It looks find but I just wish that I only had to do it once a week and let it go.

TIA

I bought an off brand lamp from Amazon. I believe it was about $50. Professionals say that you need the Gelish or Shellac brand lamp (waaaay more expensive), but I've had it done both ways and I couldnt tell a difference. You will need base coat and top coat, both of which I think were around $18 at the time on Amazon. Now I know they are selling start up sets of the polish at Sally's Beauty Supply. That would probably be cheaper. I bought a few colors that ranged from $9 to $16 on Amazon. You will also need your regular manicure tools as well as alcohol.

I didnt find that my nails were damaged when I had the polish removed by someone in the salon. The removal can be really damaging if not done properly. DO NOT PEEL OFF THE POLISH. I am a picker when my polish chips and I made the mistake of doing this once. The reason this is long lasting polish is that it BONDS to your nail. So you are not just picking off the polish, you are essentially removing layers of your nail. If you have peely nails already it may not be for you.

I found if you use cuticle oil every day, it really didnt damage my nails a noticeable amount. I use Solar Oil. It is supposed to absorb into the cuticles as well as through the polish, supposedly reaching the actual nail. It smells nice too. I also take breaks in between my shellac/gelish manicures. I think it would be too drying to maintain 100 percent of the time.

Hope that helps, sorry it took so long for a response. :)

If you are diy-ing it, you can take a bowl of hot water and then set a smaller bowl of acetone inside the bowl of water to heat the acetone. Soak your nails in the acetone for about 10 minutes. when the polish begins lifting and peeling off the nail by itself, then you can take an orange stick and push the polish off. It should slide off easily. If you have to push too hard then soak them more. Then you will need to moisturize. I usually take a couple weeks off between manicures. I use a cuticle oil and moisturize a lot, so I havent found the manicures or removal to be damaging, but like I said, I also take breaks in between.

You can buy removal kits on Amazon. I havent tried those, but I imagine as your whole hand is not submerged in acetone, it would probably be better for your nails and skin.

Do any of you guys watch RHWBevHIlls?

I MUST HAVE Brandi's blush and lips. I MUST!

Did anyone see it? Have any idea's?

I use EverydayMinerals.com. I'm just too happy with it to try anything else.
