Hi everyone!

Can anyone suggest a good shampoo for thinning hair? I used to have full thick hair until my thyroid problems started a few years ago (Grave's Disease). My thyroid levels have been normal for 2 years but my hair is still thinning. What can I use to thicken it up again?

I used to use Nioxan it is supposed to help but I never really saw a difference. There was an article on AOL yesterday and it gave the foods you should eat to promote good hair growth. Some of them were white meat chicken, chick peas, strawberries, green veggies and there were two more but I cannot remember what they were.

If anyone is looking into a Clarisonic QVC has it this month as a TSV and you can order it now A219638. Just ordered mine! :goodvibes

You know what - my Mom gave me one for Christmas and I've never used it. Is it any good? Funny - I was referred to this thread because I'm looking for products to help reduce/minimize pore size. Any suggestions out there?

Also - opinions on Smashbox photo finish primer?

LOL and I referred you....would that my own kids would obey me as well LOL:rotfl:

I am thinking that when Cathryn Rose sees your question she will have an answer.

As to Clairasonic I use the less expensive one from Olay and I like it but I have noticed that my face is breaking out when it never used to . I do not know if the brush is stimulating oil production or what. They are supposed to be wonderful.

What is the Clarasonic supposed to help with? I hate to say - it's still sitting in my closet!

OMG you do need us over here! LOL! It is supposed to clean your skin. It is a brush that circulates and cleans your skin as well as exfoliates it. This could help with your pores too.

Well I'm taking it out today then! My routine has been the same for years - Dove soap, St. Ives Apricot Scrub, Neutrogena moisturizer. Although I think my bad habit of going to bed with make-up on has finally caught up with my pores.

I will add that to the list. What is it? Shampoo or an aftercare product. I remember you mentioning it before but I seem to remember that it was at a time when my hair was not so tempermental and happy to have Morrocan Oil on it.

So far my hair is pretty good today.slight frizz maybe the problem was the water in the products I was using. We'll see ...then we will try the numer 9

Its a "leave in" conditioner/styling cream. I switched from it, to Mo Oil styling cream, and I think it may have been a bad idea. Or maybe I'm just getting old....but my hair isn't as, I dunno, elasticy? I don't know....just seems drier. So...I went back to it, just the past week. Now I use Mo Oil, Potion 9 and root lifter. I already feel better about the texture of my hair. I should send you my Mo Oil cream. I have one for curly hair, too....came with a set. Lemme know if you want it.

Where's the water line exactly?

That inner eyelid thing. Like that flat part of your lower lid, if you tugged it down. I don't like doing it. Grosses me out and for me, doesn't look right, IMO.

My hair is just thin, not thinning. I don't know that aa shampoo can change something that's developed on the inside, kwim? My mom had thinning hair, she tried a lot of things, and nothing she found ever really impressed her.

My advice would be an amazing multivitamin, and focusing on faking it. Root lifter, clarifying shampoos and smoothers. I really like using TIGI queen for a day thickening spray AS a root lifter. Good stuff.

Nioxin ~ never liked it BUT its because that menthol scalp feeling?? OMG! Its what my panic attacks start like, so it freaks me out, and makes me panic. Lol! Can't use it. Hahaha!

I like that Neutrogena Healthy Skin rejuvenator. I can't say enough good things about it. I also really like Juice Beauty blemish clearing serum. THAT BEING SAID I've never had a big pore issue. I had break out skin, but not large pores. Both CVS and Walgreens will return opened products. So buy the Neutro thing, and try it out. Don't get it from Target...they won't return it, if you hate it.

And Smashbox primer ~ really great, but so is Monistat chafing gel for a fraction of the price. (See link on post 1 of thread). I really like Fusion Beauty's primers, too. But again...Monistat is too cheap and good to bother with others.

*Gasp!* WASH YOUR FACE AT NIGHT! I have come home sloppy drunk, after a Jimmy Buffett concert, stumbled into the bathroom and WASHED MY FACE! No excuses! *shaking fist* ;)

I bet it would. Pull that thing out!

Bella ~ now I don't know if it works, but its John Freida so it can't be expensive.

Have you seen that new commercial for that "semi permanent" hair straightner spray? Lasts until you wash again? May not last that long BUT might be ~strong~ enough to tame your hair.

LOL! I always had great skin, rarely broke out, my mom has great skin too - I just took it for granted that it would stay that way. Now I'm realizing I have to take better care of it. I only hope I can get that fresh look back a bit! Nightly cleansing will be my new routine.
I use Shisheido hydro-liquid compact as foundation, with Clinique loose powder. I love the combination - but is the Shisheido too heavy if I'm trying to work on healthy skin and pore size? Is there something really great and light that will help with covering my smattering of freckles? Thanks so much!!

Definately!

CR,

Thanks I will try it I also have the Coppola from QVC (I think) entire system as well as the one that they sell at Sephora. I will admit that the Coppola seemed to keep it down a little but again I must say my hair looks pretty good, since I am home I waited two days to wash my hair. I only used the Coppola lock out on it and NO water based products. Again why the heck would they put water in a product if they know it will not work in humidity.

CR, My hair is not really curley. It just has or had body Before it was bouncy , shiny and really good although I did not appreciate it when I had it(isn't that always the way). I could put it in a pony tail or just do nothing. NOW it is like loose curls but not in a good way. If I don't dry and flat iron it does its own thing and I look like one of those BEFORE photos on What NOT TO WEAR.

Thanks for the offer of product but I do not think that will work for me either. I still have my fingers crossed that this whole no water in product thing is the answer. I was using a ton of product. Who knew?

Hi cinmell

I agree with what CathrynRose stated.

I too have had a problem with thinning hair. My hair has been thinning for the past 3 to 4 yrs. Every time I wash my hair, comb my hair, or even run my fingers through my hair I would have a lot of hair fall out. This pass year I really started to get scared due to my loss/thinnning hair. It started to become really noticeable. My hair use to be long and thick. It became very very thin and stringy.

I started taking a multivitamin daily, Oscal, and Vit D ( I don't get enough sun;)

My hair use to be really long. About 6 inches and I had it cut into a short bob.

After 3 months I did notice my hair loss had decreased drastically. I still get about 3 to 5 strands but I think that's normal. I use to get big clumps!:scared1: And I know this because every time I'd wash my hair I would roll the hair left on my hands around my fingers and place it by my shampoo bottle. Kind of my way to gauge the hair loss. :lmao: (don't judge me ) By the end of the week I had enough hair to braid! :scared:

Now I get barely any hair.

If you're not all ready taking a multivitamin maybe you should try it. I don't know if it would help you but it wouldn't hurt to try. :)

Also I've heard fish oil helps.

Other then that keeping your hair short will eliminate the weight in your hair and root lifters work wonders! :thumbsup2

BE Buxom line has a waterliner eyeliner. I've seen it online at Sephora. Don't do my waterline (agree w/ CathrynRose on that!) so I have no idea if it works.

I don't have thinning hair but I do have pretty thin baby fine hair and the best product I have found is Philmoliant by Aveda. Basically a mouse, but it really gives me volume like I've never had with other brands plus it leaves my hair soft and not sticky.

Okay still on the mad quest for smooth hair in at home and on vacation. Went to the hairdresser yesterday and studied his technique for drying which btw was not a whole lot different than mine. I dry with the air blowing down not straight at the hair. He used a minimum of product just on top and that was IT! Hair looked shiny, and bouncy. Asked him about the special towel thing and he said no terry but that he sold the "special" towels there then he whispered "but you can use a tee shirt just the same thing". YEAH that is what i hve been using. Cotton that is.

Was in Walgreens and they had some sort of keratin thing that was supposed to keep your hair straight. So now I am going to admit it I think I am a hair care snob. I would not even consider it. While I know that is stupid I cannot get over that every time I get a product not at a beauty store or supply it is awful.

I KNOW this is stupid and flawed thinking but that has been my experience. I know to pay more is not smarter but I still do it! The funny thing is if I see a product in Walgreens or CVS for 25.00 I will not buy it I think it is expensive yet if I go to ULTA or Sephora I think wow this is only 25.00 and would buy two of them!
Anyone else do this ?

Having issues quoting on my phone....hence my red text....

YES! I have a huge ~issue~ with spending what I consider a lot, on drug store items. I even get a little "who do they think they are????" attitude about the whole thing. Just last week, I saw this Loreal HIP eyeshadow duo. Real cute shades, a gold and a brown. I was gonna get it and it was $9. What??? This is Loreal! I stuffed it back in the rack, angry. LOL!

Have you ever tried those blow drier brushes? I truly hate my hair, unless I use mine. It just smooths so so well.

Just ordered the sebastion potion 9 for my dry, frizzy, color treated hair :)

I love it. Love love love it! I just can't say enough good things about it. I've been using it since I was like 22. That's almost 16 years of loyalty. As mentioned, I think I made a mistake turning my back on it, for awhile.

I had a moment of weakness, and after a few drinks at Navy Pier, had hair tinsel put in. I freaking LOVE IT! I cannot stand feather extensions, but the subtle sparkle of the tinsel, is so cool. I ended up ordering some to put in myself.I'm excited to get them.

And I picked up some Neutrogena Rain Bath shower gel. I had forgotten how nice this stuff is. And the smell? I was whisked back to HS. Not sure if that is good or bad. In any case, my skin is so soft and yummy. :)
