The magical special feeling of Disney World wear off???

Well.... this is my 35th year in a row visiting the "Mouse" ...doing new things "every visit" and these last 4 yrs. as a DVC member are just the "Best". :woohoo:

Fade??... only my body is fading.. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ....

...certainly NOT my "heart" for All Things Disney!! :cloud9:

I have been going to Disney for over 20 years.........the feeling only gets stronger the longer I'm away!!! :thumbsup2

The scenario I hope we'll end up in is one where we stay in the program, returning to the world every 3 years or so. The "off" years will not become completely non-Disney; Vero Beach And Hilton Head are both return favorites for us (as my spouse likes to refer to them "they're Disney, but not in-your-face Disney.")

This is why I'm always hoping that DVC will add more non-WDW DVC resorts. (Personally, I'd love - and gladly spend my points at - ones in Southern California, Northern California, Hawaii, and Cape Cod.) Unfortunately, though, that's an uphill battle, I'm afraid.

First it is important to remember we are all different folks, and it takes all different kinds. Just because the magic never fades for me, doesn't mean it won't ever fade for you. Our responses are different, because we are different people. ;) Doesn't make you wrong, and me right, or vice versa.

We make every trip different, and every trip is wonderful in it's own way. We don't commando anymore, and we actually come home feeling like we have been on a vacation and not a marathon. I have been going to WDW for 25 years, and stopped counting the # of trips. Our average now is 3-4x a year.

The magic never leaves me, and I wish I didn't ever have to leave the magic.

Maybe, maybe not. My sense is Disney is really pushing every division of the coproration to agressively seek out new growth opportunities. From that perspective, DVC is really at a crossroads.

The growth curve on the WDW property membership is flattening. Adding capacity only at WDW exacerbates that problem, and continues to handicap DVC's ability to attract clients from outside the eastern and middle sections of the U.S. (DVC sales from the Disneyland office have been crawling; trust me, people don't want to always have to fly cross country on every vacation).

So I think a Californian, Hawaiian or even possibly Mexican DVC property isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility. Cape Cod - now that's a stretch, primarily because it's a destination with a short season (late April-mid October) and all the prime land there has already been built on or is protected (State and National park space).

Some people have also suggested additional DVC properties in the Caribbean, but that doesn't address Disney's desire to attack broader geographical markets. West coast people in particular generally don't vacation in the Caribbean!

One thing to keep in mind is that as your children grow and change, so do their interests. So, while they'd probably be really into the rides at Fantasyland right now, eventually they'll probably be more excited about the bigger rides as they age. Speaking from experience, we're going on our 7th (or so) trip to Disney in May and they're ecstatic about it! To them, that's still the best place on earth! In fact, we were just playing a game the other day and the question was, "If your bedroom window could look out anywhere, what would you want your view to be?" My 14 yr. old answered "Disney World! Because then I know I can go visit anytime!!"

But, I do wonder if they'll start to think that Disney is "uncool" at some point. But, we've already started day trips to Universal to take care of that!! See?? They're tastes change!! Haha!!! :rotfl: Oh, and btw, we are going to Vero beach too, which is a WONDERFUL place to get the Disney touches without the Disney characters! :smooth:

I live in LA and we go to Disneyland every 2wks or so...and my 13yr old still LOVES it! Go figure. I thought we would be dealing with junior high girlfriends, etc... but no... he still LOVES to be with his parents and loves going to Disneyland...immature...perhaps...upset...I'm NOT! I wouldn't worry too much! There is something so magical about Disney even teenagers just LOVE IT!

Best,
Brando

We too try to do new things every trip. Illuminations cruises, eating at new restaurants, staying at a different resort, those type of things help break up the same 'ol, same 'ol feeling.

Also next year we are going to venture out and do a couple of days at Sea World (gasp!!!) but seriously it will give us something else to look forward to and then spend a few days at the parks again and it will be fun.

We haven't done any of the water parks yet because we had always wanted to do the parks. Now we will take away a park day and add water parks. When both of the kids get older we can do the tours. So there are different things we can do to keep every trip new and exciting.

We have 3 trips scheduled in one year, mostly to take advantage of the AP's! I don't think the magic will fade; however, we will have a different approach to our visits. They won't be about rushing around to ride all of our favorites, it will be more about taking in the other things that we wouldn't normally do while at WDW. I'm looking forward to going and not having to go commando style!

I also think of it such that if I don't want to go one year, that's fine, I can just bank up or rent points... or go to HH or something else.

I don't think the magic will ever fade for my daughters and I...The first time I took them was Sept 01 right after 9/11 and they fell in love. They were 3 and 5yrs old. We have been back 1-2 sometimes 3 times a year since then. I finally woke up in Jan 06 and bought DVC....200 pts and just decided to add on another 50 pts. (my guide gave me the same deal f&f, even though we were closed on the contract) We were there in Jan and are going back in 14 days. There is so much anticipation for the 3 of us...We love it there...and can never get enough. I don't think this will ever change for me and I hope the girls will feel the same...as they will get my points some day when they have families. We don't do the commando deal anymore at the parks, we take our time and see whatever we can. In Jan we were in AK for most the the 3 days we were there and rode EE at least 20 times. I try to make these trips memorable and fun. The commando trips were always fun, but we were at each others throats by the time we got on the plane to come home. There will always be magic for us at Disney World!

We bought as empty nesters in our late 50s because the Magic hadn't worn off, and we realized that family coming with us or not, DH and I enjoy our WDW trips very much.

I totally agree with the other posters. We'll actually only be going once every two years. (Yikes...did I actually say only every two years? I'm sure the people who save and save to go to WDW once in their whole life will really feel sorry for my family.)

The first time we went to WDW was six years ago. I grew up going to DL on occasion and always loved that. We had some really rough years a while back, so I decided I was going to take our 2 years of tax returns, at the time, and take our DS on vacation. I told my DH that I was taking our son to WDW and to see my friend in St. Augustine and we would love it if he joined us. Of course he did. We had an awesome time! We fell in love with WDW!
My point being that, when I planned that trip, it was a once in a lifetime deal. (A one time shot!) I thought we could probably never get to go there again. I am always looking for ways to fund our trip. Well, now we take our tax return every year and go on vacation. We try 2 different resorts every time we go. It just keeps getting better everytime. We just bought DVC in October after our first DVC stay. We love the accomodations there!
We also love FL and think that it has so much to offer. My friends who live there take us spring hopping. FL has so many natural springs to explore that are just beautiful and aren't to expense to do. They also have beautiful beaches and the Gulf of Mexico is amazing! We are looking forward to spending many years vacationing in FL :cool1:

We just bought into DVC/SSR. I love that magical/ special feel of being at Disney World. However, I am curious to see if that eventually fades now that going to Disney World will be a once a year trip. Seems to me it just want be as "special". I hope I am wrong!!! I just don't want my kids (age 2 and 6) to become ho-hum with the idea of going.
Sure hope not :sunny:

Hope to never lose that feeling.

We have been going to WDW since 1985 or 86 (can't quite remember) and have been DVC Members since 1994.....our children were young then and now they are 26 & 27. We don't think that we will ever lose the "Magic"...each and every time when we go to the MK I still get goose bumps and am just in awe of it all, especially Cinderella's Castle. Our kids did think it wasn't cool at one point, but now they enjoy there own visits there without Mom and Dad. Things change, family changes, we get older so things can be different. DH and myself now really get to relax there, rather than do any "commando" trips. We still love it, and will probably always will. DH, DD, DS and Me always make it a point to be there together at least once a year and those times are priceless for all 4 of us.

We never get bored. We go at least once a year and most times twice. I agree that you might spend more $ on other activities since your accommodations are paid for in advance. But, there is so much to see and do, that we never get bored. We just make sure to do something we haven't done before, like eat at a place we haven't eaten at before or go to a special event that we haven't done before and of course do some of the same old favorite things we always do. We never get bored of just sitting and relaxing at our resort. We actually welcome the rain. Sounds strange, but it is nice to not do the 'commando' trips anymore.

We started going in 71 every few yrs until 96 then we started going once a yr.And 1 of our 2 children would go with us.Oh thats right they are now 34 and 29 yrs old and they still want to go every yr. 1 in May and 1 in oct. We even did 1 add-on so we would have pts for each of them to stay in a studio for a wk.Now we are waiting for grandkids so we can start all over again. :goodvibes
